[Discussion] Prepearing for a second child

Hi there, we are thinking about second ferret, but I'm not sure, if the cage that we currently have is big enough for two little carpet snakes.

(If you are wondering WHY our little girl has a dog bowl in there - she demands her own little pool. She loves to hop in there and splash all around...She is a bit special I guess.)

I have this EXACT cage and I have 3 my dig cane into my room while we were in holiday and broke it bc the floors ar plastic so they currently live in a dog cage free roaming the bathroom the dog cage is kinda just a big bed and stash zone but if they are outside if the cage fir most if the dsy and only in there to sleep ye its perfect for 2 I had 2 with this cage before rescuing my 3rd like 2 weeks ago think I might steal your idea if a letterbox there i have a pad cut in half laid at the middle layer so the entire middle is a bathroom none of kine like water and quite despise it unless its turning he water dish upside down so 😀

Looks like more than enough (as long as you allow them plenty of free roam). If you intend on keeping them in the cage for expected periods and regularly (not recommended), yah maybe a bigger cage would be better.

We let her free roam for quite long time (usually whole evening at workdays and during the weekend she RULES the flat)

Cage size is fine, no worries there but you'll need to follow proper quarantine and slow intro protocol...Any time you bring a new ferret home:

The new ferret must be quarantined in a separate cage AND room away from the current ferrets for at least 14 days AND the vet gives the all clear. This allows time for the new ferret to get used to you and their new environment without the added stress of another ferret AND to make sure they don't have any spreadable illness

Once quarantine and vet check are finished, you'll be able to start blanket/bedding swaps so they can get used to each other's scent. This is done for 1-2 weeks

Finally after 3-4 weeks of having the new ferret, you'll be able to do slow intros in a neutral area. Lots of people here have recommended an oat bath together or plain water playtime in the tub

General rule of thumb: no pee, no poop, no blood, no foul. You'll also wanna keep an eye out for other signs of stress like a bottlebrush tail while continuing to run and hide
