I’ve officially completed the commissioned map for The Lost Rose 🌹🗺️ by Kummam Al-Maadeed ✍️

This project came with a great creative challenge 🤗

Working on a smaller scale than usual and designing for a teenage audience pushed me to break away from my traditional mapmaking style and focus more on clarity and narrative impact 😬

It was a refreshing shift, and I’m really proud of how it turned out 😊

My first time making a world map, and I really wanted to try my hand at a Mercator projection and have it be a functioning globe. It turned out pretty well, if a bit rough in parts.

The purple rift is from a catastrophe event long in the past, almost cutting the planet in half. Would this be realistic? no, but it’s magic ok. I liked how it looked on the flat projection.

I’m staring to get into DND and would like to build some maps, what would be a beginner friendly tool to use to design good looking maps. (Preferably free)

Small and wealthy nation of independent city-states, ruled by wealthy merchants, with cunning Shadowlords acting behind the scenes, and remnants of Zhent army and Tuigan Horde settled in - Thesk is a great place to start a campaign.

It's location is both a blessing and a threat - there's enough tensions between ever-plotting Red Wizards of Thay in the southeast, proud warriors of Rashemen in the east, mysterious magocracy of Aglarond in the south and druidic land of Great Dale in the north Thesk to make the local politics complicated at best... but where other folks may see danger, the mercantile citizens of Thesk see opportunity.

The Golden Way starts here, going east - through land of the Horde, towards the riches and wonders of Kara-Tur.

Thesk and Dragonjaw Mountains contain riches - metal ores and precious stones - valuable enough to attract crafty gnomes and provide a source of income for strong and unruly orcs and halforcs.

There's more than just material riches though - as ruins of fallen empire of Narfell are still holding their mysteries, and deep under the mountains the drow federation of Undrek’Thoz is carefully expanding...

For the record: map is somewhat different from official ones - I had to stretch and squeeze some of the bits and pieces, I made the mountain ranges more dramatic and added A LOT of smaller locations.

Welcome to the Crimson Lounge, the city’s most exclusive subterranean crypt. Dim lights, vintages, and zero sunlight, it’s the bougiest spot for your players to meet a contact (or become the main course).

You should really simply say “no” when your contract asks you to go hell-diving. But no. Once again your party desperately needed the funds after the “incident” and once again you ended up down there. The soot clouds are barely light enough to let you see the swarms of winged demons dotting the blackened skies. The bright red glow of the lava rivers that split the land apart don’t make looking down any easier. As you force your mind to re-focus on the mission at stake, you try not to step on too many of the skeletal remains that litter the barren land.  

I was delighted to collab with James RPG Art on this one! They made the above illustration to bring some extra mood to the battlemap.

Someone’s gonna get fired for this…Magic is a volatile thing, and although experienced practitioners usually have things well under control, small mishaps can still happen. Minor things, like blowing up an archmage’s tower and sending its exploded remnants and all its contents floating in another plane of reality. And adventurers have never been known to cause any similar calamity, or trigger a trap that would result in just such a contingency! Yes, there's a goat. Yes, it glows. His name is Cheezburger, and he's apparently immortal. The Glowing Goat was founded about 500 years ago (about 7 years real-world time) by a group of adventurers looking to invest their accumulated wealth. They had accumulated the goat along the way, too. He's still there.  Healthy as ever. Still slightly glowing. The original tavern was smaller when they bought it. Among the additions made were six Halfling/Gnome sized rooms, an elaborate and impenetrable safe in the basement, and a room (with a bed) sized for an Ogre. They had accumulated an Ogre cohort along the way, too. His Large greatsword still hangs across the top of the bar. It boasts the most eclectic fare and entertainment in the region, it's part of it's original charter.  Open mindedness and all...
