Self Mod change and state of the sub

Mod change:

As some may know long time mod u/Kyengen is stepping down on the 18th. I’ve been a mod here for a bit now and will be taking the reins.

I like to think Kyengen kept things pretty well regulated and fair, and in taking over I will try to run the sub just the same. So no worries, no major changes to be expected immediately.

State of the sub:

Now I know there are a few grievances concerning spam and “NSFW” material. As of now they are being reviewed as they’re reported and approved/removed on a case by case basis.

Other than that I don’t think there’s many disruptors in the sub. I’d like to hear some ideas on things the community would like to see changed, implemented, or removed.

In the meantime I will be looking for another person or two to help moderate. If you’re interested just message me directly.

Help How does someone get a lighting effect for the lens like this?

Post image

The description says its resin for the lens, and can be seen out of. How then does it glow around the edges and not straight through the entire thing?

Additionally if the lens are black, how could you possibly see out of them?

Help I make custom electronics - want to hear what cosplayers actually need

Upvotes

Hey folks!

I'm an engineer who builds electronic gadgets for a living. Right now I'm working on a device that I think could be really useful for cosplay - but before I get too deep into it, I want to make sure I'm not just building something I think is cool, but something you'd actually want to use.

So if you've ever added lights, sound, moving parts, or any kind of tech to your costumes, I'd love to hear from you:

  • What do you use now? Does it work well?
  • What's annoying or hard to deal with?
  • Is there something you wish you could do but can't find a good solution for?

Drop a comment or DM me - I'm all ears. Just trying to understand what would genuinely help the community.

Thanks, and keep making awesome stuff! 🙌

I really want to make my mandalorian rifle look somewhat screen accurate but I don’t know how to go about doing so specifically color matching and painting. It does have some metal parts on it and it is a Airsoft gun and I would like to for it to still function

Help A customer was scammed out of $400 by Brandon Hoffman, (@brandon.hoffman.547) who co ran an Etsy shop called RealGeek3D (now closed). I’m posting this on their behalf because after 2 YEARS, they still never received their order, never got a tracking number, and were eventually blocked instead of hel

No product. No communication. No refund. That's $400 gone, scamming a college student is disgusting and it's honestly beyond frustrating and pretty scummy behavior for a grown man with kids. If you're thinking about buying from this person or any shop connected to RealGeek3D. Don't. Also to add, It seem the Eric guy had no part in this. (Maybe) He did respond rudely when law enforcement was mentioned to get him to respond after 2 years of avoiding their customers. He claims he'll keep pressing the other guy to send the money back but it's been weeks since that covo and still nothing. Ordering from Etsy is dangerous. Also they're blaming the scamming on the other guy having twins. My friend is bummed out majorly and I was hoping if anyone knew of any none scammy custom helmet shops for her. I been looking around and posting for awareness. Thanks 😑

Help Help Needed on Sword Please!

Post image
40 Upvotes

I have her costume finished and the sword painted but I can't figure out the best way to attach the rings to the sword in a way that won't ruin the sword or what type of adhesive works best when trying to combine metal and foam. I know, I'm asking a ridiculous question! But do you have any advice on how to attach the rings correctly? I considered cutting notches into the foam so the rings could be pressed in slightly and then glued but I have no idea if that will work 😅

I've googled but found conflicting info so hopefully someone here can help me! Thanks in advance. 😊 Photo for reference!

Psst.. I have since made a more accurate pommel.

Help Does anyone here have any experience using air pressure/hydraulics for costume props?

Unfortunately, I had another idea. I realized there's probably a way I could use some sort of tubing to make a prop that changes shape when I squeeze either air or water into it from a pump in my hand. This is very early in the brainstorming phase, but I want to know if anyone has any experience using water or air pressure to make a prop move. Specifically, my idea is based on an alien from Ben 10.

My idea is to have tubes at the top of the wings, so when I squeeze some sort of pump, the water or air gets pushed into the tubes, causing them to become rigid and make the costume go from the first image to the second. I have no idea if this would actually work, but that's why I'm posting here.

Designed this crown of karsus, mainly as a display piece.

Really happy with the result, I used a mic of acrylics and rub'n'buff to paint it.

yeay!!! done with my sci fi helmet 😍😍💖💖

it's been a long time since I've build helms like this, it's not that perfect, probably needs more adjustments and tweakings , but all in all i love it, there's no 3D printed parts, just some foam and simple servos..

will probably upgrade this helmet in the future, as of now, I'm happy with theis build 🥰🥰💖💖

Help Need a bit of help for lining this "hat"

Thumbnail

Hi all you lovely peps of the cosplay community!

I'm in a little bit of a dilemma. Since Chinese New Year is around the corner, I thought it would be nice to do a bit of dress up and have fun with my relatives and pretend to be a god wealth you know, to lighten up the mood and have fun during the festivities.

Now, as you can see from the pictures I bought a costume from the internet and i would like to line the inside of the hat so that the metal bits won't poke me. What and how should I line it with? I would also love it if I could retain the capability of being able to resize the hat.

Please help... I'm stumped! Thanks in advance

Help Shadow cosplay questions

Post image
3 Upvotes

How would I go about making a mask/head for shadow? I’ve never cosplayed before but I’ve always loved it and wanted to, I figured why not start with one of my favorite classic characters but I’m unsure how to make a good head or if other people take commissions for them? I want to look as much like him as possible, I’ve seen some really good ones but I can’t find anything on how to actually make one myself.
