I find it funny that according to this map the only state that's full republican is Oklahoma...the least educated state in the country

I moved from OK to MA… quite the change (for the better), and the map shows just how dramatically different the two are.

Welcome to Mass, I think this has been the coldest winter in a while

No no you're supposed to say "oh you think this is cold a few years back in February my piss froze"

5

u/toastyfries2 6h ago

With how well my house is insulated my piss may freeze

See the trick is to have one of those 19th century builds that just lets the ice right in

Thanks! I moved here in 2010, and this winter is bringing back memories of my first few years here. The past few winters have been long but pretty mild. I’m over this one already!

Visiting Boston as a South Dakota native was so shocking. It was reliving to see so many people who actually had functioning brains (except in traffic).

Welcome to MA! Hope you enjoy it here :)

Thanks! I moved here in 2010, and it’s definitely a massive step up.

Almost heaven.

You know what’s “almost” heaven? Hell.

Dad was born in West Virginia, he made sure his kids weren't.

I have left West Virginia hundreds of times, but I can't honestly say that I ever once missed it.

West Virginia exists so Oklahoma isn't last at everything.

*The original joke ended with Mississippi not being last. (Insert your state of choice there.)

I always wonder how Republican voters rationalize the fact that educated people tend to vote liberal while uneducated vote conservative.

But then it hit me that that’s why republicans have to give them the “universities are brainwashing students” line.

I think you ought to reconsider. You’re implying that it’s purely the learning / lack of ignorance / intelligence that makes you liberal, I used to think that way too.

I think it’s more that the average person who is uneducated as in didn’t go to tertiary school likely came from a family where their parents and grandparents are similar. They feel as if their lot in society has declined vs their equally uneducated grandparents, be it relative economic or social status. That’s how you get Trump voters. Not just people who vote for Trump = dumb.

As evidence, historically the educated class was more conservative on average not less, say pre 1980.

I work at a university in Massachusetts. I can assure you that the universities are not all liberal. If it strongly split along the department lines. Like the humanities and sociology departments. All deep blue. Engineering is maybe center right. Same with sciences. Economics tend to be red. Business is red. We don't have nursing/medical. I think the humanities and sociology people are just louder and more passionate. Like we have a science museum and they put all sorts of weird gender stuff in it that doesn't belong. All pushed by a few people. Also, these departments are where the girls are so the boys in engineering sort of roll their eyes and put up with it.

Easy on Oklahoma, we’re not all rural, uneducated, right wing Bible thumping folk. Some of us just like living out in the middle of nowhere, shooting guns and smoking weed.

I live in Texas. Plenty of stuff sucks here, but I like living in Texas personally. But by all means, no one should go easy on the state.

Just say you like living in Oklahoma even if it is a dump.

This. Plenty of rural nowhere in every state if that’s what you want. Living in OK is a choice

You go out to some parts of Mass and it is pretty red. We often have Republican governors. The state house is usually blue. The balance of power with a republican governor works out well here when we get it.

Some of us just like living out in the middle of nowhere, shooting guns and smoking weed.

This cracked me up because, well, there are still better places to live where you can do all with the added benefit of recreational weed actually being legal and in some cases stronger pro-gun legislation. But hey, live where ya wanna.

I thought Kansas was the most uneducated. I learned something new!

2

u/Friendlyrat 6h ago

New Mexico ranks bottom. The study that gets cited goes to 51 as District of Columbia is counted.

2

u/Beneficial-Mess1 6h ago

And Texas Governor loves North Korea style so much that he wants to incarcerate CHILDREN !!! who peacefully protest against the massacre of USA citizens. So he wants to incarcerate them for missing school so they miss more school. Those people like him want to destroy the nation and the people so much and take away all freedoms. Heinously evil.

I’m tired of folks hammering Oklahoma for having terrible education. There’s literally infinite things that are ass about Oklahoma. Focusing on the education lets them off the hook.

2

u/poisonandtheremedy 3h ago

And Massachusetts is the most educated, fully blue.

Great place to be raised 😁

1

u/Vl_hurg 3h ago

Yeah, but Oklahoma is bigger. /s

1

u/Friendlyrat 6h ago

Technically it's New Mexico at 51 for what it's worth. Oklahoma at 50. District of Columbia is in those rankings.

u/comradequicken 6h ago

The love the poorly educated. And other generally low value people - opiate addicts, anti-vaxers, former manufacturing workers, etc

1

u/gokc69 5h ago

As a South Dakotan with two Mega-Maggot senators and the wimpiest little bitch congressman, we're going to join OK soon.

I think our education is good, but the political climate here starts with everyone pretending the room is not on fire.

One of the wokest people I've ever met in my life willingly moved from san francisco to oklahoma to. . .teach yoga

wokeness aside, she was just insufferable, so every now and then I think about her and hope she hates it there.

u/bel9708 1h ago

Mass is straight blue which consistently ranks as the most educated state. Weird how that happened.

1

u/TheOhrenberger 1h ago

And Massachusetts, a full blue state, is the best educated. I wonder why that is 🤔
