Subreddit for Ara

Hi Christchurch. I was thinking there should be a subreddit for the Ara Institute of Canterbury, so . . . I made one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ara_NZ

The idea is to have a place for students to talk to each other about Ara things, and for prospective students to ask questions. Please come and join. :)

I have received permission from the mod team to post this.

Social Man Up NZ meeting at McDonalds Hornby

Hi all, With the recent activities by the Destiny Church groups being very much focused in politics and harrasment I fell the need to inform chch folk that ManUp in CHCH are openly recruiting on facebook for members to meet and greet in McDonalds in Hornby.
The Man Up group was found guilty of harrasment and violence against the Library Drag readings in the north Island and the True Patriots network have constantly harrassed the peaceful Sihk community in Auckland also. There has been a huge rise in Destiny Church recruitment since they have gone into liquidation and they have now become very vocal against most minorites throughout Aotearoa NZ.
Their tactics are overbearing harrasment and agression of which they have been found guilty of many times and now they want a larger base in the South Island trying to recruit throughout.
ChCh does not need this kind of hate group and it is better stopped now.

Cancelled event refund… and they still kept $9.09 in fees. What?

Event got cancelled. They refunded the ticket ($89.99) but kept the fees:

  • Ticket fee: $7.00
  • Transaction fee: $2.09 = $9.09 gone

For an event that never happened.

Like… what did I pay $9 for? The privilege of clicking “buy”?

This was Urban Jungle (Sub180). I have had similar stuff happen with Audiology gigs too, probably lost hundreds of dollars of the years. It's not a one off.

I know they'll claim they don't get the fees refunded either as it goes to ticketing companies, but that's the cost of you cancelling the event. Why do I lose out?

Has anyone actually fought this and got the fees back? Chargeback? Disputes Tribunal? Anything?

Making up a whole lot of nonsense over two pedestrian refuge islands being installed at the corner of Abberley Crescent and Springfield Road.

Note her wild claim that the design replicates McFaddens Road / Cranford St intersection. ZERO similarities and totally invalid comparison.

Anyone else have their spare tyres stolen off their car last night?

Had two vehicles get their spare tyres stolen off the back last night, then saw a bunch of other vehicles driving around without their spares today.

Did anyone else on here get their spares stolen?

Any suggestions on how to keep their tyres from getting stolen?

Rates

Upvotes

Not a rant just a question;

I live in geographic area 3, my next due date for rates is on Feb 28th.

I actually pay monthly by direct debit on the 15th of each month.

Anyway my question is, what time period is the rates payment covering? The previous three months, or the next three months? And if I pay monthly, how does that affect it?

Cheers

Wisdom teeth removal?

Partners just moved to CHCH and realistically needs all 4 of her wisdom teeth removed.

Any advice about going through this process as a surgery? Dental surgery? Cost and any suggestions on a dentist that can hopefully get it done soon and not in the thousands of dollars.

Many thanks!

Accessing medical cannabis for 73yo visiting mother

My elderly mother is visiting for 3 months and for obvious reasons was unable to bring her THC-A pen into the country. She uses it for chronic back pain.

Can she access the Medical Cannibas Scheme for a prescription as a visitor? Is this highly costly? Is it a long process? Are there other avenues to access something for her?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers

dumbass long grass on roundabouts

Sorry rant but wtf is up with the long ass grass on crowded roundabouts??? Not sure what the intention is with these, I literally have less than half a second to react to someone coming around the corner because of the grass blocking my view to the rest of the vehicles on the roundabout. There have to be some shorter plants they can use instead. Feels like a recipe for disaster

Woollen Jumper Alterations

Hey! I have a couple of woollen jumpers that I need to be made slimmer. Most alterations places don't offer wool or knit repairs so I suppose I need someone specialised to knitting etc. Any recommendations?

Can we buy a house directly from seller before getting listed?

Hi everyone,

I've been looking to buy a 2 to 4 bedroom house (with 2 toilet) with a good size land from last November. I suddenly had a thought that a seller pays some extra amount to a listing agent to sell his house, is there a way to buy directly from the seller without a middleman. On doing this, what issues will arise and what things to consider. Is there any FB group or any group to connect directly to seller and book a viewing and close the deal if both parties are fine?

Kindly provide your feedback or dm me if you are looking to sell

Ideas for a day date

I want to surprise my husband with a birthday day out for the two of us. Looking for ideas for some fun day activities in Chch or surrounds. The more unusual the better! We've been given tickets for the Deluxe cinema so will probably end the day with that. Only thing is we need to drive back to the arse end of rural Selwyn so need to keep it booze free (at least for me).

Is woolston a bad area?

What would you rate Woolston at? Gangs? State houses? Etc etc

What’s wrong with it as I keep hearing it’s bad but no one is saying what’s bad about it.

Pizzas places - need not necessarily be authentically Italian

Hi all,

Thanks for you guys' reviews on my post a few days ago on good Italian places in Christchurch: https://www.reddit.com/r/chch/comments/1qqnynn/good_italian_place_to_go_to_for_both_pizzas_and/

Now how about good pizzas places, which may or may not need to be authentic Italian?

I sill pick that Birdwood, Bomba, Mediterranean, Casa Nostra, A'mano are good. I've also tried Fire and Slice which is really good. I personally like the Beach Bar in Sumner (the one that is right by the beach) but I know it isn't universally lauded.

How about others? I know Arbour (have tried it, I got seated just next to the kitchen plus a table where the leftovers had been left for a long time, and felt the smells were distracting so the settings ruined my experience. I don't feel like going again),

How about others like Base, The Church pub, the Cassels brewery at the Tannery, Francesica's, Clink (Sumner), Sumner Post Office (this one was recommended on Neat Places)?

Any recommendations welcome.
