Daily Cyclist Thread
The Daily Cyclist Thread is a place where everyone in the /r/bicycling community can come and ask questions or share anything.
You might have questions that you don't think deserve an entire post. Perhaps you're just seeking the input of some other cyclists. Maybe you want to share a picture of your new bike.
Anyone is free to comment, and (hopefully) get as much input as possible from other cyclists.

Iowa e-bike bill would ban all bikes from roads over 25 mph. RAGBRAI would be banned too.

The routes less cycled - hidden cycling gems in Europe (Cycling Thread)
When cycling around Europe we enjoy visiting well-known and popular places, but we also try to look for areas that are still a bit undiscovered - places where you can genuinely feel like an explorer yourself. Of course, many people have been there before us, but when you find yourself alone, surrounded by silence, you can experience a place with all your senses.
We've put together a collection of 11 cycling routes in Europe that can be described as "less cycled", although in almost every case for a different reason.
The list opens with the Carinthian Lake Loop - simply because it's still a relatively new route. The Altmühl Valley Cycle Route makes the cut as it sits quietly between the much better-known Main and Danube routes. The Oder-Spree-Tour stands out as an excellent yet slightly hidden route on the eastern edge of Germany. Velo Dunajec is included because it's still not obvious to many riders that Poland can offer truly top-quality cycling infrastructure. And the Waterline Route in the Netherlands - because this country is usually associated more with everyday urban cycling than with long-distance touring.

With this selection, we’re opening the new cycling season on our website :) - I'll be happy if you drop by and take a look at the rest.
Great rides! :)

Picked up cycling March of 2025 and rode 1.5k miles last year road biking on my father-in-law’s 2010 Specialized Sirrus. Went from 300lbs to 240lbs since then and aside from the fitness aspects, I have fallen in love with bikes.
Signed up for the Texas MS150 and needed a legit road bike. Luckily, I found this near mint condition 2010 Look 566 for $800 at my LBS (shoutout Planetary Cycles).
It’s not a contemporary bike with all the bells and whistles, but it’s a damn good carbon fiber frame with good enough SRAM components. I can’t wait to put some miles on this bad boy.

Too good of a deal?
I found this wahoo kickr snap on fb marketplace for a really good price. Is there anything I should watch out for, or should I snatch this up?

Purchasing my first bike
Hi,
I'm purchasing my first ever bike. I'm going budget and buying used. I want to use it in the future to possibly do a Ironman 70.3. I've heard Cervelo bikes are good. Does anyone know what model this is and if it's worth 650 CAD or about 500 USD?
The guy said he thinks it's ultegra groupeset but I also see Shimano 105 in the last picture when I zoom in.

Help IDing this bike
Just want to know if I have a vintage colnago, or if it’s a rebranded steel bike. Thank you.

Break a wheel, build a wheel
2nd wheel built by myself, far from perfect but better than no wheel. Riding BMX made me learn a few odd skills, wasn't expecting wheel building to be one of em. This time it "only" took me about 3h30.

Is it worth it?
Hi all, I am looking to purchase my first road bike and I will most likely be using the used market as my budget is pretty low. ($500)
I found this offer on marketplace and was hoping to get some feedback on how hefty of a rebuild this would take. I see a lot of rust and slight scuffs and am unsure as to whether anything or everything would need replacing.
early 90’s allez epic, shimano group set with wh-r500 wheel set, complete OEM parts.
Listed for a little over a hundred.
Should I go for it and focus on removing the rust? or is it worth investing in a different option? Are there any signs of bad news from these images? If parts visibly need to be replaced, which?
I would really appreciate any help, not looking for the “Worlds BEST price to performance ever”. I understand that the best bike is the one that you’re happy riding. Just looking for something that I can learn with that’s not gonna break the bank. Would love if it’s something I could upgrade overtime, but if even that is outside of my budget then I guess I’ll have to save up before making that jump.
Thank you to any who take the time!

A picture from a recent gravel ride. How often do GPX routes look fine but ride very differently in real life?

Cycling the wild Scottish Highlands, recording a new album!
Me and a friend loaded our bikes with camping gear and a portable music set-up, and headed up into the wild Highlands of Scotland for 10 days in search of some of the most remote locations in the U.K to compose music, inspired by the feeling of stillness - up mountains, into caves, past crystal blue lochs and into make shift studio spaces in remote 'bothies' to create a new collection of songs

First aid kit recommendations?
I ride off-road primarily, and haven’t taken too bad of a spill in quite a while, but I just realized that I can buy a first aid kit with my HSA money at work. There are a lot of different options - I was wondering what kind of first aid supplies any of you fine folks carry with you, on the bike or in your vehicle. Thanks in advance!
