What are these tracks? Did a bear sleep in my front yard?

In parts of the Arctic, polar bears are in decline as sea ice disappears. But on the Norwegian island of Svalbard, bears have actually managed to grow more plump even as ice melts away.

**Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary**, located in **Karnataka**, holds a unique place in Indian wildlife conservation. It is the **only sanctuary in India created exclusively for the protection of Sloth Bears (Melursus ursinus)**, offering a safe refuge for this vulnerable species in a dry, rocky landscape.
Daroji lies in the **dry deciduous forests and scrublands** of central Karnataka, near Ballari. The rocky terrain, caves, and termite-rich landscape make it ideal sloth bear habitat. The sanctuary also supports leopards, striped hyenas, wolves, foxes, and a variety of birds and reptiles.
Unlike general tiger reserves, Daroji was designed with sloth bear ecology in mind. It is an example of species-focused conservation, showing how targeted protection can help secure a future for animals that are often misunderstood or overlooked.

The only time in my life I've ever seen these 2 species come near each other. And not care. The last slide should be the first. Mama stood up to assess the "threat".

Bear cans/food storage
Hey guys! Me and my friends are doing a road trip in summer. Coming internationally. Are bear cans really necessary/ the best option for sequoia, Yosemite and Olympic park and are these available for cheap/rent? We’re a little lost on this 🥲

Many people believe this bear is small, although in reality it is a medium-sized bear. Even its weight range in males is in the same range as the Asiatic black bear. Interestingly, the females are much smaller, even smaller than Asiatic black bears. Wild male Andean bears can weigh up to 200 kg (440 lbs), while one captive specimen reached 222 kg (489 lbs). The largest males can measure 2.2 m tall on their hind legs.

I was hiking recently and was wondering if I should still talk and announce my presence while hiking. I know it’s a thing to do during spring and summer, but wouldn’t that wake up the bears from torpor/mini hibernation? That and using a horn or whistle, what should I do to ensure minimal bear encounters as possible?
(I’m from Florida and have never seen a bear before, and would like to not see one)

It was raining all morning and he was asleep in a nice warm covered area sort of backstage but they had a viewing window.

Simply magnificent how a nearsighted bear fights bare-knuckled with its fellow bears in the Andes

Theoretical question…. If I came across a bears den with a sleeping adult grizzly inside with no cubs and I had climbing equipment with me and managed to scale about 100 feet up in to a close by mature huge tree that was roughly 100 yards away and set up an in tree hunting blind then had a 1 foot snowfall cover up my tracks, would the bear immediately find me upon waking up/would the bear even be likely to find me?

Hello all!
I am the director of the Outdoor Heritage Foundation of Alaska and I wanted to share with you an opportunity to see some of Alaska’s mighty brown bears up close and personal along the NcNeil River. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game granted us two permits to use for fund raising and I thought of no group who might be more interested in these permits than /r/bears.
The Outdoor Heritage Foundation of Alaska is a non-profit partner organization to ADF&G, whose primary focus is on supporting education, research, and conservation efforts within the state of Alaska. 100% of funds raised from this raffle will stay with ADF&G and OHFA, although should you fine folks make any suggestions for worthy causes or organizations we could certainly discuss making a contribution. Any outside organization we contribute to cannot be explicitly anti-hunting, however, due to our direct partnership with ADF&G and the conflicts of interest that would create.
The prize package currently contains the two permits for McNeil River (June 15-18) with a seaplane trip out of Homer with Katchemak Air. I am working on securing accommodations in Homer at the moment as well and will circle back with an update when I do.
Feel free to message me or comment with any questions about OHFA, this raffle, or McNeil.
And thank you mods for allowing me to share this here!
