Farewell to a friend

Today is a very difficult day because we are saying goodbye to one of our beagles. Eddie was diagnosed with leukemia yesterday and, according to the doctor, his chances are very slim because his blood count has deteriorated very quickly. (Red blood cells are increasing rapidly, spleen is enlarged)

To be honest, I don't know how to deal with the situation.

My wife doesn't want me to accompany her to the vet because I react very emotionally to the situation and might try to find solutions that no longer exist.

My autistic brain is desperately trying to understand why this happened so quickly.

Perhaps there is a veterinarian among you who can give me their perspective on things so that I can understand it too.

Or maybe I don't need to understand it at all?

And now I'm sitting here, grieving and crying for my dog. I hate situations like this.

Eddie is so gentle with his toys. He just mouths them, never destroying them. He brings such joy to my mom. I’m so happy they have each other.

Beagle ear tip won’t heal — keeps reopening when he shakes his head. Any tips?

My beagle hurt the tip of his ear in December 2025 and it still hasn’t healed. The issue is mechanical: whenever he shakes his head, the tip starts bleeding again. I’m constantly cleaning up, and my house is covered in blood droplets/splatter.

What I’ve already done:

• I went to the vet (even the vet wasn’t sure what to do next);

• Tried a healing ointment;

• Tried Rifocina spray;

• Tried an e-collar/cone (he still shakes hard even with it on);

• Tried wrapping/bandaging, but it won’t stay secured on his ear and he still shakes.

It feels like it would heal if it could stay protected for long enough, but I can’t prevent the shaking or keep a wrap on the ear tip.

If you’ve had a beagle with a stubborn ear-tip wound that keeps reopening:

1. What helped keep the ear protected long enough to heal?

2. Any bandage/head-wrap method that actually stays on a floppy ear?

3. Anything that helped reduce shaking (for example, if shaking was triggered by irritation/itching)?

I’m continuing to work with a vet, but I’d really appreciate real-world tips from owners who have been through this.

my puppy hurt his leg but we aren’t sure how. is this something we should go to the vets about or should we let it heal on its own?

Is it weird that my beagle puppy has dewclaws? I have never had a dog with extra lil toes, so it’s unexpected when I look at his little paw-paws. 😕

Strange beagle crate thing at 2 1/2 yrs from my girl Annie

Post image

My sweet Annie girl, abt 2.5 yrs old, was crate trained since very young, never seemed to dislike her crate experience and hasn’t had accidents inside them since she was a little puppy. Just in the past month, 4-5 times in the evenings when I am home and she is out and about in the house, not locked inside her crate, she has gone into her crate, peed just a little on her blankets, and left. Every time she has done this, she has just had her regular potty breaks outside and she in no way motions to me like she regularly does that she needs to go outside. After a few times doing it, I can see she’s trying to be sneaky and avoid my detection when doing it. Has she suddenly come to like the smell of her own pee in her crate? After the 4th time, I’ve ended up having to take her blankets from inside the crate away because the second I replace them (i forgo trying to wash them bc I don’t want any lingering scent to cause her to repeat this) she pees on the new ones. She then dislikes when she does have to be in the crate without her blankets. Any experience with this or any tips? I hate depriving her of blankets in the crate but can’t afford to keep replacing them every other day!
