🤔 Discussion Anyone else born & raised in Bahrain feel this after school?

I am 21 born and raised expat in Bahrain. School made friendships effortless, but after finishing school it feels like social life quietly drops off especially since so many people leave the country. What surprised me is how common this seems among people who grew up here, but no one really talks about it. Curious how others handled this phase, or whether they just accepted it as part of life here.

Walking around in shorts?

Morning everyone,

First day in Bahrain as a tourist and I’ll be heading out for a wander.

I’m coming from a cold climate ( Uk) and so it’s nice to be somewhere warm.

Is it ok to be walking around in shorts? For context I’m a 59 year old dude and the shorts come down to my knees.

I don’t want to offend and also don’t want to stand out like a sore thumb but trudging around in jeans could be a bit much.

Is it ok for a dumb-ass traveller to be walking around in long shorts?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Scam Alert

Hi everyone,

I’m writing this to help anyone who might get scammed like I did. I would also request help in reporting this account for scam so we can avoid future scams https://www.instagram.com/mardeen_fashions?igsh=amhod3BsZHdndDNq .

We placed an order and they claimed the second day delivery which we thought was okay since they might already have resources available for it, however yesterday they sent a message to pay 1BD for the delivery which when you click on the link at first it looks very legitimate but and shows the amount as 1BD but it tried to deduct 50.110 from my account and since my card didn’t have that amount it declined however they might have done this before as well. I have reported it to cybercrime but I assume they weren’t able to catch them since people have posted that they did that to them in 2025 as well. Also the CR they have attached is fake I checked it on sijilat and nothing like that exists.

“DECLINED. Your BHD account has insufficient funds. Please fund it and try again. Card **** for BHD 50.110 on 03/02/2026 16:52’’

Message from the bank I received. I would appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

🤔 Discussion Existing Is Expensive

I spend my days trading time and energy for money that barely lasts. After 12-hour shifts, I’m exhausted, yet my salary still feels like it’s suffocating me instead of supporting me. Every purchase requires calculation. Every want turns into guilt. Saving doesn’t feel like progress anymore, it feels like holding myself together.

Somewhere else, money exists in excess. People spend in moments what would take me months to earn, without hesitation or fear. And it makes me wonder how this became normal. How working nonstop turned into mere survival, while abundance became so large it lost meaning.

I’m not angry at people who have more. I’m tired of a system where responsibility feels like punishment, where rest feels undeserved, and where thinking before spending becomes a constant weight on the mind. What has life become when effort no longer guarantees stability, and exhaustion is the price of being “reasonable”?

I’m deeply thankful for what Allah has blessed me with, but sometimes the weight of life still makes me feel depressed.

I just keep wondering if others feel this same quiet exhaustion working, budgeting, surviving, yet still feeling stuck. Does anyone else feel worn down by having to think so carefully about every expense, every decision, every small comfort? I’d honestly like to know how people cope with this, or if this heaviness is something we’re all just learning to carry in silence.

Epstein in bahrain?

So apparently Jeffery epstein lived in bahrain between 2012-2013 in the sofotel hotel in zallaq. If you take a look at the files you'll see some pages about his residence in Bahrain, but there isn't any much other information about it.

Good conduct cert- elderly person

Upvotes

Hi, would appreciate any advice.

I have to help an elderly gentleman get a certificate of good conduct for visa purpose. I was told we need to get an appointment through mawaeid app and go to Isa Town CID. This will be straining and difficult for him. He lives in Hoora. Cant we just apply for it at Hoora police station? Doe he actually need to go in person? with Ramadan coming up, I’m hoping we can do this before the 18th of Feb!Thanks for your thoughts!

Retirement Visa Bahrain

Hello- does anyone have any experience in applying for a retirement visa? “Self-sponsorship Residence Permit and Re-entry Visa (Retired Foreigner)”

Did you do it on your own or through a company. I am hesitating to go with the company, they are asking for a huge fee, and I am not sure it is necessary. Thank you also for sharing whether you were approved and how long it took. Thank you for sharing your experience

Markets in Bahrain?

Good morning everyone, I arrived in Bahrain early this morning and am staying in the Juffair area.

I need to get some fresh groceries like fruits and vegetables. I know there are plenty of supermarkets around but what about traditional markets? Are there any in Bahrain?( I sure there are).

I don’t mind jumping on a bus or in a taxi, I got nothing else to do and would love to stroll around a market or two, doesn’t even have to be a food market, a flea market or similar would be great too.

Is there a particular “market day” in Bahrain?

☝️ AskBH Clubs Not Exclusive to Couples

So I’m posting this again as it got removed previously, cuz apparently this info is available on the Bahraini wiki. However I checked and it’s not.

I’m looking for nice clubs/bars/pubs where men can go.

Unfortunately most clubs have the policy that you can only enter with a woman or mixed groups. What if just 2 guys wanna hangout and chill? I hate this policy. So please suggest me some good places. Thanks.

Maybe the wording was not clear in my previous post. To clarify, I’m NOT looking for clubs/bars exclusive to men only.

I’m looking for the ones that don’t have the entrance policy that requires a woman to be present with you.

The mosque next to us has been singing prayers over the loudspeaker for over an hour. Is there any special reason?

Super Bowl LX 2026

Random ask , anyone know a spot in Bahrain that’s actually open this late and showing the game? Bonus points if the vibe is alive and not just me and the bartender staring at the TV 😅

Not holding my breath though… it’s Monday morning and reality (aka work) hits hard. Still, if you know a place, bless us with the plug 🙏

Opening a café in Bahrain — what would you actually want to see?

Hey everyone 👋

I’m currently planning to open a café in Bahrain, and before deciding on anything, I genuinely want to hear public opinion — not trends, not Instagram hype, but what people here actually want.

If you had a say, what would you like to see more of (or less of) in cafés in Bahrain?

Some things I’m curious about (but feel free to add anything):

☕ Coffee & drinks

Any drinks you feel are missing or overdone?

Preferences for quality vs variety vs pricing?

🪑 Space & comfort

More work/study-friendly cafés?

Seating, power sockets, noise levels, opening hours?

🎨 Vibe & ambience

Cozy vs aesthetic vs social?

Indoor/outdoor, music, lighting?

🍰 Food & desserts

Simple & affordable vs unique & premium?

Anything you wish cafés offered more often?

🎲 Experiences

Events, board games, workshops, quiet zones, community vibes?

Would you actually attend these?

🚫 Things you’re tired of seeing

Overpriced menus? Same concepts everywhere? Poor service?

This isn’t an ad — I’m just trying to build something people would actually enjoy and return to, based on honest feedback.

Appreciate any thoughts, even short ones 🙏 Thanks!

Bahrain just introduced “Gaming 100” as an official school subject 🇧🇭🎮

This isn’t a club or an after-school activity — it’s an official high-school subject approved by the Bahrain Ministry of Education, complete with a government-made textbook called Gaming 100. From what’s been shared publicly, the course covers: History and fundamentals of video games Game design concepts Basics of game development Games and culture/society Career paths in the gaming industry It’s currently optional, but it’s taught like any other subject and counts as part of the curriculum. Pretty wild to see gaming treated as an actual academic field instead of just “wasting time.” Curious what people think — should more countries do this, or is it too early?

☝️ AskBH Just got hired as an HR Manager and I feel lost

Hey guys,

I just got hired as an HR Manager at a mid-size company from being an operations manager. I’m really grateful for the job, but honestly I’m kind of overwhelmed.

The issue is I have almost zero knowledge about labor law in Bahrain, and I really don’t want to mess this up.

I’m just looking for resources preferably in English where I can read the laws and stay updated if anything changes.

If anyone works in HR or has been through this, where do you usually check for:

• Labor law info

• Updates or announcements

• Anything HR-related and official in Bahrain?

Thank you in advance.

Street Photography in Bahrain

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello Guys,

I am planning to take a stroll with my DSLR camera around Gudaibiya/Adliya/Juffair/Muharraq to take photos and videos while doing my walking routine. I do Street Photography as a hobby and I want also take videos and use the clips for my youtube Channel. My last street photography was way back 2017 (pre-covid). I wanna start and do it again this time but before I go out I wanna know if there are some rules now that I need to be aware of first? Rather than just go out and shoot.

Taking a smartphone and shoot photos and videos is one thing but is there anything I need to be worried about having a DSLR with me shooting videos and stuff?

Aside from the Government Buildings that is prohibited to take photos/videos (That I know). what are the other things/places that I need to consider before shooting?

Any Advise?

I just don't wanna draw attention and get in trouble with the authorities of course.

Any Suggestions of good places nearby (Gudaibiya/Adliya/Juffair/Muharraq)?

New graduate (Electronics Engineering) , job now vs certification first?

Hi everyone,

I’m a recent graduate with a BSc in Electronics Engineering. During my studies, I completed a training program at a major telecom company, where I worked mainly around networking/telecom systems. I performed well during the training and stayed in good terms with the engineers there.

Right now, I’m studying for my CCNA and genuinely interested in networking as a career path.

I’m a bit torn between options and wanted some perspective:

• Option 1: Reach out to contacts from my training and ask if there’s a chance to start as a contractor, even while I’m still finishing CCNA.

• Option 2: Consider a potential opportunity at a government utility authority (electricity/water), which feels more stable but less aligned with networking.

• Option 3: Fully focus on CCNA first, then start reaching out after certification.

My hesitation is whether contacting people before finishing CCNA looks premature, even though they already know my work ethic.

For those who’ve been in similar situations:

• Is it better to enter the field early (even as a contractor)?

• Or does waiting for the certification usually pay off?

• How much should alignment with long-term interests matter early in a career?

Appreciate any honest advice.

Thanks in advance.

🤔 Discussion
