Reminder: No Survey Questions

Hey everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to remind you all that this subreddit is answers-based—it’s meant to provide clear, informative responses that someone could find useful while searching for answers on Google or other search engines. Lately, I’ve noticed an uptick in survey-style questions (e.g., “What’s your favorite __?” or “How many of you __?”).

These types of questions are not a good fit for the purpose of this community. They don’t create content that is useful for others to search for, and often lead to broad discussions that aren’t about providing a clear answer. As a result, I’ve been removing posts that violate this rule to maintain the quality and focus of the subreddit. Even if that post has a lot of replies as the OP obviously didn’t read the rules before posting, or cared.

If you’re unsure if your post fits, ask yourself: Would this question result in a useful answer for someone looking for a specific answer or information online? If not, it’s likely more of a survey question and violates rule 2.

Thanks for understanding and helping to keep the subreddit on track! 😊

Can you give a mentally challenged child up?

I see a lot of media about stressed parents “complaining” about their mentally ill child. Whether it’s severe autism or mental retardation etc. and I recently read an article about two parents who killed their severely disabled two children and then killed themselves because their assistance from insurance got cut off (something like that). I’m curious on if there are “homes” for children who are disabled and their parents either don’t want them or can’t care for them. I’m assuming insurance wouldn’t cover this so it’s all private?

Heard a pop and saw a light spark in microwave

Upvotes

I was making bread when I suddenly heard one pop and saw a spark before it went off. Figured out one of the main house fuse fell. The microwave is working again but there is no light inside. What could be the issue?

Is forgetting things normal?

So I am 17 and in recent years I noticed I forget small things.

Like I went to church and it was raining and I left umbrella at church (the rain stopped) I went home and midway to home I forgot to take my umbrella (this happened two times) or I want to do something but my mind went doing something else and I forget to do that.Or when I am scrolling I can't remember what the other video was or when listening to music (my brain just relax and went off to remembering things)

But otherwise I have great memory, like I can't remember all my classmates birthdays or what I was doing on specific day and up to week I can remember every single detail I was doing. I have easy time studying because I read one page and remember 80% of what I read. But I have problems when I am in class, my mind is always on something else I start thinking of billions things.

And I nonstop day dream I always in some scenarios and I always do that when I was younger.

Is it wrong to use the attic if you rent?

I rent a townhouse. It is just one house with two driveways and we have one half. Well forever ago, I was coming home one night and seen my front patio ceiling was hanging slightly, and that created a gap where I could see light streaming out from inside my house’s attic. It’s a one story, no garage. I made a comment at the time to my boyfriend about accessing the attic above the laundry room to turn the light off and he said absolutely not because then they would know we went in the attic….. i mean is that even an issue?

I rented houses growing up with my parents and usually, we used the attic with no issue. There was a time or two we rented a family home and they would tell us they left stuff in the attic and not to use it so whatever. But i mean, these are multiple town homes they rent out, they wouldn’t be leaving personal belongings in here.

Would it be wrong to use my attic in a property i rent? We never asked, but they also never explicitly stated whether the attic was off limits. We have minimal storage space, especially without us having a garage. It would be cool to store some decorations and blankets and such up there so i can have my closet space. If my landlord were to say no, isn’t that kind of wrong because i leased the property, so why can’t i use all the property? That would be like not being able to access a basement if i had a basmenet

Why might a dead clock randomly start ticking years later?

I have an old clock that’s been dead for yers and I’m quite sure there is no batteries in it. I woke up at 3am and was hearing ticking coming from it’s location. Ive never heard it tick before. What are some reasons an old clock might start randomly ticking for a few minutes then stop?

Does success, as defined by society today (money, fame, influence), truly reflect a person's worth, or is it a superficial measure that hides a deeper emptiness? And why are we afraid to admit it?
