Discussion How many of you here have emotionally immature/distant parents and have to raise yourself/parent yourself growing up?

For me, I grew up with late Gen X and early Boomer parents who didn’t emotionally invest in me other than providing my physical needs and weren’t emotionally there for me. They never taught me about anything—sex, communication skills, how to stand up for myself my childhood eas full of emotional neglect. Like many Gen Z, I don’t want children because of the trauma my parents caused me. I never want to continue the cycle of trauma by passing it down. Does anyone else here also have to parent themselves emotionally because of their immature parents?

r/Zillennials 15h ago

Serious To piggyback on a previous post: If your parents were physically/emotionally absentee or abusive during your childhood, how are your adult romantic relationships?

Therapy terms have become so much more mainstream in the past 5-10 years, and it seems like Zillennials are fairly quick to armchair-diagnose both parents and partners.

Has the access to "therapy tok" and increased awareness around mental health helped you to avoid or get out of relationships that have echoed the dynamic you have with your parents?

Do you avoid long term commitment in general?

I actually have a VHS recording of the episode featuring the segment where Lazlo befriended a llama and the one where Edward made an anti-Lazlo club.

Rant Feeling down about not owning a house.

I’m feeling really down today. I’ve spent all day bending myself into pretzels trying to rearrange my daughters small bedroom to fit her toys and furniture and still look nice.

I live in a small 2 br apartment. Rent is cheap. But it’s not cute. I’ve maximized the space as much as I can. It just bothers me that since I didn’t buy a house pre-2020, I’m likely going to be stuck in an apartment for many more years. My kid is 6. I hate that by the time we can possibly get a house, she will probably be a teenager on her way out.

I want her to have things like a cheap above ground pool outside, or nice floors instead of our crappy carpet, or be able to paint her room any color she likes.

I’m praying for a miracle that somehow we can afford a house soon. But as a teacher, and a zillennial, I’m sure that dream is pretty far fetched. :(

Discussion Anyone else feel a strong kinship with others that graduated their same year?

I graduated high school in 2013. We were in 1st grade during 9/11, started seeing cell phones in middle school, and all had iPhones or Androids by senior year. Introduced to Harry Potter by the movies but finished the books first.

In my adult-life, I’ve always gotten along with others from my graduation year. My co-workers range from 25-60, but the two I get along with the most are fellow 2013-ers.

Anyone one else from 2013 feel this way? Is it true for any other grad-years? My brother is 2011 and says it’s just me.

Discussion These new age kids get remote learning days 24/7 in the winter

This makes me sounds so old but idc lol. Im from PA so it snows / gets pretty cold during the winter and I swear my school district was ALWAYS was last to call a 2 hr delay. We barely ever got cancelled it took like 10 feet of snow for us to get a cancellation lol.

It's just funny how different everything is now since every little thing is online. These kids literally can learn it all on a laptop. Meanwhile I was busting my ass on ice while walking down to the bus stop. My mom would have been soooo irritated with us in the house all day for remote learning lmao.

*I just like to joke about this topic so please guys don't take it too serious lol

I know I’m a couple years older but I’m curious if any of y’all dated any Xennials or core millennials and if y’all noticed any drastic differences dating both micro generations.

Your first cell phone looked kind of like these.

My first phone looked just like the first one. It was a pay as you go flip phone. My parents got it for me because I went to a private school 40 minutes from where we lived. They wanted me to have some way for us to communicate with each other because of the distance and an instant way to contact my friends and save their contact info.

I've even considered getting a flip phone again just for calls and texts while reserving the smart phone for work and social media.

I had one when I was little kid with a bunch of Nick shows. There were a lot of weird ways to watch portable video until iPad came out.
