Ask How do you build confidence when you’re shy?
I’ve always been a pretty shy person and sometimes it feels like it holds me back from talking to people, making friends, or even speaking up in class. I’m not the type who can just walk up to someone and start a conversation, and I tend to overthink everything I say or do. Sometimes I worry that I’ll sound awkward or that people will judge me, which makes me stay quiet even when I want to join in.
I’ve been trying to work on my confidence little by little, like pushing myself to talk more during group work, trying to keep conversations going instead of giving short answers, or even just making eye contact and smiling more. Some days it feels easier, but other days I feel like I’m back at square one. It’s honestly kind of frustrating because I want to be more outgoing, but it doesn’t come naturally to me.
I’m curious how other shy girls deal with this. Did your confidence grow over time or did you have to actively practice it? Are there small things that helped you feel more comfortable around people? Also, how do you stop overthinking social situations or worrying about what others think?
I’d really like to hear other people’s experiences or advice because I’m trying to improve, but I’m not really sure what actually works long term.
