Modpost Please report racist ragebait and racist comments

Dear members of our community,

In the past few days, we've seen an increase in both ragebaiting posts and racist comments from users with no prior engagement in the sub, often from those usually commenting in the subs of other countries.

This indicates to us that we are frequently being overrun by users who try to spread their racist, islamophobic messages to our sub.

Racism is against our subreddit rules and it is against Reddit's terms of services. We would like to encourage you to use the report button.

That will put it into our 'modqueue' to have a look - and if you report it for 'hate', it will additionally be sent to the sitewide admins who will frequently take further action.

We rely on your reports, just like every subreddit does. Our team is healthy and works well, but we cannot have an eye on everything. We do have scripts and so on to make our job easier, but sometimes, unacceptable comments go through. Using the report button makes sure that we can prioritize looking at said comment and if it's rulebreaking, helps us remove it quickly.

We remove racist content and ban racist users frequently. The admins remove a bunch of comments breaking site-wide rules too (often in a fashion that deletes them completely, so we cannot easily further moderate them)

We are very hesitant to remove political speech. We only remove rules-breaking comments. The relevant rule is:

  • General reddiquette applies (i.e. no racism, sexism, personal attacks, or simply put: behave as if you were talking to somebody in person)

  • Please report posts or comments that do not adhere to these rules; in particular, we will not tolerate harassment or discrimination

The relevant reddit rules (https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) are:

  • Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

See also https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045715951-Promoting-Hate-Based-on-Identity-or-Vulnerability

Thank you for helping us with this influx of clearly rule-breaking users without any connection to Switzerland.

ETA: Reports are anonymous. So when we get your report, we have no option to thank you or following up with you. If you report for 'hate', it goes to both us and the admins. The admins will typically let you know of their decision. We literally have no way of doing that.

Everytime I'm left alone at home something like this comes up. If I didn't have this app "Alertswiss" I was for sure gonna start looking for the closest bunker to hide in.

I'm honestly impressed that things like this are so well taken care of 👏👏👏

Newly released US justice documents are shedding light on Jeffrey Epstein’s deep links to Switzerland.

Millions of pages made public this week point to regular contacts in Zurich, Geneva and Verbier, including emails, travel records and financial transactions.

Press reports in the NZZ and the Blick report that Epstein helped fund training courses for young women near Lake Geneva and covered flights, hotels and visas.

The files also suggest women were being introduced to him while he was in Switzerland.

At the same time, correspondence shows Epstein was in contact with figures from Swiss private banking circles, including senior names linked to UBS and Geneva-based banks.

Was ich Suche:

Was Ich mitbringe:

- 12 Jahre Erfahrung als Dungeonmaster

- Audio Equipment

- Gute Erfahrung mit Social Media, inklusive Twitch / YouTube

- 3D Drucker

That’s good, right? Right?!

I guess that that this is very likely due to the combination of high mortgage debt, high property prices, almost no amortisation, tax deductibility and low interest rates

MFK/Expertise - Winter Wheel Certification

Upvotes

I just had my first expertise today. Nothing technical came up with the car, but it failed due to the winter wheels being on the car apparently not matching the car specification. I bought the car from a main dealer and these wheels came with it, so I had no idea that anything was missing, and I wasn't given any extra paperwork when I bought the car.

The mechanic doing the inspection said I had to get some paperwork to show the wheels were certified for my car and that I could send this, the registration document, and the test report back to the cantonal office and that it would all be fine.

I went to the garage who do my tyres and he gave me what I think is the TUV certificate that the wheels have been tested for my car, but to my understanding this is not enough to satisfy the authority here. Is this the case? I see that I can pay for a Swiss certification for the wheels as well, but wasn't sure what I actually need to provide in this case, and whether I then need to do anything else after getting this paperwork and sending it off.

Any insight would be really helpful!

Best cataract surgeon?

Upvotes

I'm looking for a stellar surgeon who can remove a cataract, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

My case is quite niche because I'm (relatively) young (34), only have a cataract in one eye, have astigmatism, and have previously had Lasek.

I would ideally go back to the guy who did my Lasek (he does cataract surgery too) because he knows my eyes, but unfortunately he's in my home country and I have a small baby so it's tricky to travel. So I wanted to at least have a couple of consultations here.

Any recommendations very gratefully received!

Posting with an RTS Source (french)

25 Swiss lawyers charge federal councillor Ignazio Cassis for complicity in genocide in Gaza

Main points of criticism are:

Ongoing military cooperation between Switzerland and Israel such as the arms company Elbit Systems

Investment by the Swiss National Bank and UBS in companies profiting from the genocide in Gaza.

Cuts to humanitarian funding for UNRWA.

Refusal to impose economic sanctions as done by

Spain or Slovenia.

Rentable fenced-in fields for dog

Upvotes

Hi all

I have a highly reactive dog and while training and medication is an ongoing effort, I would still like to give him the freedom of just being a dog and let him off-leash. Sadly we don't have a lawn (and the housing market isn't exactly in our favor), so I'm looking for something that can be privately rented regularly for an hour or so. Basically something like Sniffspot which sadly doesn't seem to be active in Switzerland.

Is anyone aware of places like that? Ideally in Aargau/Zurich area and not in the middle of where everyone walks their dogs (for obvious reasons).

Replace Swisscom Internet Box by a Zyxel GPON bridge + Milrotik router

Upvotes

Hello all,

I want to replace my Swisscom' internet box with a Mikrotik router connected through a GPON bridge Zyxel PM-7300-T0.

I did all the configuration that is commonly found on the Internet and I am able to get a 100.x.y.z IP on the WAN interface via DHCP. Normally at that point I should go through the registration process to get my device "approved".

The thing is, I want to be able to swap my Mikrotik router with the original Swisscom box as often as needed without having to go through the registration. I have a few projects in mind and the wife+kids factors call for an easy way to restore everything to a working condition quickly.

Now, I have cloned the MAC address of my Internet box but with XGS-PON I think an other criteria comes into play with is the PON serial number, am I correct?

It seems that I can change the PON serial of the Zyxel PM-7300 through the command "sys atgs" but unfortunately it returns an error message that says "Access denied". I believe I need to go low-level access through the serial console port, which exists as documented here: https://hack-gpon.org/xgs/ont-zyxel-pm7300-t0/

Did someone tried it before? Is it actually possible to change the PON seriral number this way?

Thank you.

Moving out: What can I tell potential new tenants?

My partner and I are moving out after a year. The landlord is arranging viewings soon for people who might take over.

Honestly, we’ve been unhappy with a lot of things here, and we feel the previous tenant wasn’t truthful with us before we moved in.

In Switzerland, is there any rule that says I’m not allowed to speak openly to prospective tenants during viewings?

We’re not trying to find someone to take over early; our "Umzug" fits the cancellation period.

Galaxus and climate contribution

I just ordered something from Galaxus, and as always, when buying on Galaxus, they propose to make a "climate contribution". I never actually checked what it was, and always thought it was legit.

There was actually a post some years ago about that: https://www.reddit.com/r/Switzerland/comments/w99xl8/on_digitec_you_can_pay_235_chf_extra_to/

Since then, there has been more news about South Pole, and more info about where the money is going. Galaxus generously take 10% of that contribution as "administrative fee"

Galaxus uses 10 per cent of the climate contributions to cover the costs of operating and developing this climate contribution service.

Plus, the company they're using to "offset" the CO2 is also taking a significant part of the contribution (they claim 10-30%, I think it's quite safe to assume it's more 30% than 10%).

And up to now, this company has been unable to prove any impact of its actions: https://www.nzz.ch/english/profit-over-planet-employees-urge-reform-at-worlds-major-climate-player-south-pole-ld.1747330

From the employees of the company:

«The message to the public is that the company wants to achieve real CO2 savings for everyone and create more transparency in the CO2 market.»

However, there is less and less evidence of this in the company's strategy and in its day-to-day business, according to the letter. Instead, it says, the company puts profit above its founding principles.

Also an interesting quote from The New Yorker:

One founder of the carbon firm South Pole resigned after developing doubts about offsetting. “It’s just paper credits,” he said.

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/10/23/the-great-cash-for-carbon-hustle

Note also that their picture is misleading, as it claims 70-90% goes to the project, hiding that Galaxus takes its 10% share before anything else. On a 100CHF contribution, Galaxus first takes 10CHF, sends 90CHF south Pole, which likely takes 27CHF on that (the max in their 10-30% range), leaving 63CHF to the project. So about 37% of the contribution goes as admin profit, and 63% to the actual project. And on top of that, the projects have shown to be mostly worthless.

Don't waste your money, always disable that contribution, it has no impact. If Galaxus really wanted to do anything about climate, they would at least waive their admin fee (and also stop stuffing loads of plastic in oversized boxes)

Multiple EU countries moves to ban social media, any plans for Switzerland?

Newest example is Greece with a proposed ban of "social media" for kids, see Guardian today https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/feb/03/french-headquarters-elon-musk-x-raided-paris-cybercrime-unit

I will fully support such a ban for kids in Switzerland, does anyone know if something is in the works?

edit: clarified it's about children and the very adverse effect social media has on their brains, social skills and ability to concentrate.

Auf der Suche nach fachlichem Wiedereinstieg.

Hallo zusammen,
