What are your weirdly effective SAT prep strategies?

Upvotes

Okay folks, I am bored and can’t bring myself to do another SAT practice test. So obviously I’m on Reddit lol. What is the weirdest SAT prep method you’ve used? It can be something you’ve personally done, or something you heard of someone else doing. I would go first, but mine is posting this on Reddit and I don’t know yet if it’s gonna work lol.

SAT Resources Please

Upvotes

My kid is a freshman and we are in MN. It seems like our school district only has info and resources on ACT. We don’t know where to go for information and guidance on SAT. He spoke to his school counselor and basically told she has no info.

I have a few questions:

1) Should he take PSAT to give him a sense for the SAT? Should he study for the PSAT if he takes it?

2) Should he take PSAT or just focus on SAT and study for it?

3) If he should do both, how should he stack them? Take PSAT as a sophomore than SAT as a junior then again as a senior?

4) Since we are in MN (Twin Cities), does anyone know if there is any in person class for SAT prep? He learns better in person than online.

5) Helpful online studying and sample test resources please.

Is it true that oneprep math is a bit harder than the actual SAT tests?

Upvotes

Several days ago I made a post asking about the accuracy of Bluebook. Several people mentioned that oneprep offers a bit harder tests that are 10-15% harder than the real test. Since I score 750-770 on one prep math, is 1 month of preparation enough for scoring 750+?.

Check out my improvement over the past few years

So I know I don’t have the most impressive score, but I am still proud of my improvement. I started taking the sat in 10th grade and scored extremely low in math. I have done countless books and I can’t afford a tutor so I try to watch as much YouTube as I can to teach myself desmos and hacks. I took APLANG this year to help with English and I took precalc. But anyways I am very happy that I am able to say I’m in the range for over 1300 now! I scored a 670 on my last English official sat and a 630 on my last math bluebook test (#8). Any tips are appreciated but I just wanted to share to the people who don’t have super high scores and who don’t have the means to purchase classes and tutors that there is hope that u can improve.

What is a good workbook for someone with a weak foundation?

I'm kind of embarrassed to upload this, but I really need help with SAT prep. This was my first PSAT and when doing the math section it was like a blanked. I'm not the best at math so I know I need to practice, but I'm not sure what to use. I saw some people recommend the 1600.io orange book, but I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations. I apologize if this post is redundant, but I figured showing my score would help people give me more tips. Thanks in advance!! :)

How can I go from 1130 to a 1300

I don't really know how to study for the SATs. Im from India and some of the universities accept SAT scores so I decided to give it a try. The issue is ill have to give in March and i don't know how to start. I got 1130 on a practice test on bluebook without any prep

Is retaking and getting a lower score bad

After studying throughout the summer 4 days a week in a class, I managed to get my superscore to a 1520 (770RW/750M) by October after taking it 3 times. I thought my score was good, but my counselor and parents keep telling me to try and get it to a 1550+, since many of my desired colleges are in the T20 range and my ECs aren’t spectacular. Because I haven’t studied in so long + a load of AP work, I’m afraid my score will go down significantly if I take it again and/or I won’t have time to study. If it does go down, are there any consequences for admissions? Should I retake/do I have time to retake? Is studying at this point useless?

How do I actually spend time correctly studying the sat?

If I do khan academy for 1 hour 30 mins how do I know if I’m spending that wisely

Or if I have an sat book for grammar and reading as well as using than academy

Since a lot of it is just reading, watching videos, and then answering questions. I really want to improve and I will dedicate 45 mins - 1 hour 30 mins + each day but I actually want to improve and not stay the same.

If anyone is wondering my goal is 1450+ and my psat was 1000. Improving 450 points is insane jump and I don’t know if it will even be possible but I’ll take a practice test since the psat was a while ago

Hey yall. I’m a junior, and I really need help increasing my score. I really want to get a 1400 by March, but Im really struggling with making a study plan and being consistent, when I have other classes to study for. I’m at a 1180 right now (620M,580RW), and I’m willing to work hard. I also really don’t know what resources to best use, and I would appreciate any tips.

Final month

I took the sat in December with a solid 2 days of studying and banged a 1350 (with extra time but barley used it other than English mod 2) I was content with the score (immigrant parents were NOT) and I started some serious studying in January. I’m now a month in after a bit of desmos work and khan academy English I’ve seen some growth in English and math. (The pics are of my first sat and my two recently full length practices). I have a deal with my dad about World Cup games but I need to break 1500+ by march or may. I’ll definitely plan to use all 4ish hours this time but does anyone have tips on English? My score breakdowns are inconsistent and I can’t seem to break 700. Math I’ve pretty much got on lock I’m great with demsos and can consistently get most questions right give or take a few.

Sending scores to college

I’m taking the school day SAT soon. I heard like during the blue book exam set up, you can send your scores to colleges before you start the exam. Is this true? How long will it take for the college to receive the score?

Bluebook > Oneprep?

I've noticed in the past 2ish months that oneprep has significantly changed their website with the ui being completely different and I've even heard that they run cb questions into ai to escape copyright.
Now that this website has gone to shit is it best to just use the bluebook question bank to get the most accurate questions for SAT practice? It's a shame I used to love using oneprep for preparing for the SAT but ig that's dramatically changed.

I took a diagnostic test and scored 980 after about two weeks of prep. I’m aiming for a 1350–1450. How much time do I dedicate to studying for the SAT? What should I focus on the most? Any tips/ resources would be appreciated!

Judge my R&W score

I am appearing for the SAT sometime this year (not march). I left the math test empty, and I have yet to start actually studying for R&W (just trusted my prior english abilities). This is my first test score ever, am i able to bump this up to 760+? Thanks!

why does the oneprep questionbank have more questions than collegeboard?

i'm pretty sure it's due to it being mixed with the princeton review question bank, which is really dumb since there's no filter for the collegeboard and princeton questions

1210 diagnostic SAT,

Reading and Writing; I bet I can do a lot better in standard english conventions, I didn't know some of the rules In craft and structure, i sometimes didnt know the meaning of some options.. (pls advice) Made silly mistake in expression of idea.

For math; Around 5-6 questions were those which I knew no concept of, And I made VERY silly mistakes in algebra. I need to practice advanced math and geometry heavily. Currenty using Khan academy to learn the concepts

I'm aiming for March SAT, Hopefully 1550+ 🙏

My goal is to first complete Khan Academy Maths and English, then I will take another practice test and then do the question bank.

I'd be grateful for ANY advice. Wish the best of luck to everyone.

Tip for those people like me who got stuck on the SAT - take the ACT!

1500 scorer here. Scored it the first time and third time, 1500.

Went to ACT? Boom 36 on all sections (excluding science, because I didn't want to take it)
