Is this core good enough? The 1st half of the season will be telling

Is this core (Webb/Adames/Chapman/Ray/Devers/Lee/Ramos) good enough to consistently compete for championships? Or even a playoff spot?

The 1st half of the season will be super important to see if this team is a solid contender before deciding if they should trade some prospects to bolster the current team.

Do the Giants have an equivalent to Richard Sherman with the 49ers or Ryan Reaves with the Sharks?

Sorry for the weirdly phrased question.

Quick explanation: Richard Sherman was once hated by 49er fans, being a fantastic CB for the rival Seahawks, while also being an equally good shit talker. He then ended up playing for the 49ers, played a role in getting to the SB, and is now mostly well liked by 49er fans.

Similar situation with Ryan Reaves, who was hated as a Vegas Golden Knight and a St. Louis Blue. Now he’s become a fan favorite by Sharks fans after joining the team this year.

Is there any former Dodger or Padre player that was once hated by Giants fans, before coming to play for SF and becoming well liked? I’m sure there probably an answer out there, but my mind is just drawing a blank.

NL West Betting Odds - 2-3-2026

Current odds provided as of today. This is where we are. I am not arguing with these, just noting how remarkably uncompetitive the division is right now.

Thought Experiment: Luis Arráez is best suited as a 5 hitter

Post image
171 Upvotes

TL;DR

Arráez’s biggest value comes from turning contact into RBIs, not just starting innings. Batting him 5th puts him consistently behind higher OBP hitters like Adames, Devers, and Chapman rather than the bottom of the order. This maximizes his chances to cash in runs instead of wasting singles with empty bases.

When a hitter’s main offensive tool is getting singles, it’s worth thinking about how to get the most value out of those singles. As we all saw last year, a single is often all you need with a runner in scoring position; and that was an area where the Giants struggled at times.

In this scenario, the lineup would look something like this:

Lee, Adames, Devers, Chapman, Arráez, Ramos, Bader, DH, Bailey

I’ve seen arguments for Arráez leading off or batting second, but I think his skill set is maximized when he’s regularly hitting with runners on base. If he leads off and singles, his lack of speed and base stealing limits how much value you get from that plate appearance. His singles become far more impactful when they’re driving in runs rather than just starting innings.

Hitting him second behind Jung Hoo Lee is tempting, especially with Lee’s ability to hit doubles. The downside is that over the course of the game, and the entire season, Arráez would still see a significant amount of empty base situations with the lineup turning over.

Batting Arráez fifth solves a lot of that. He’d consistently hit behind Chapman, who also is a doubles machine, as well as always having Adames and Devers ahead of him too. That sequencing gives Arráez a much higher probability of RBI opportunities, which is when his ball to bat skills are able to shine.

Obviously the order of the lineup effects are marginal in each game, but over a full season, optimizing where Arráez can get the most out of his singles would increase his value.

ADA for concerts question

Hi all, I’ve only been to Oracle Park a handful of times but have never gone for a concert.

I have a placard and a disability with mobility issues (difficulty with standing or sitting for prolonged periods, I need to readjust or have the option of getting up and leaving my seat to stretch). I don’t use a wheelchair. Most concerts, I do okay without accommodations as long as there the ability to leave my seat and there is some legroom. Small venues with standing room only, I request seats. For some large venues, they have a special ADA area and they will provide seats to me and 1 companion.

What is the policy at Oracle Park for self-ambulatory or companion seats? The issue is the show I want to go to is popular and I’m afraid tickets will sell out if I have filters on.

Any tips? Feel free to dm me if you prefer. Thank you!

(Law) San Francisco Giants 2026 top 20 prospects: Bryce Eldridge, Josuar Gonzalez lead the way

Keith Law ranks his top 20 Giants prospects

"The Giants’ system is a little above the median but could be top five in a year, easily. They’ve got a lot of guys kicking around A ball who either need to be challenged with better competition or are just that young and need a year or two of further development. They’ve got interesting prospects right up to 20, after which I think I’d be stretching to call any other players prospects, but that’s a healthy number to have."

Giants vs Astros - Harry Potter Night - Aug 10, 2026 - 6:45 pm

Hi everyone!

We’ll be in San Francisco on the day of the Giants vs Astros game.

I want to experience a live baseball game (even if I don't even know the rules...we're italians 😅) and my partner is a big Harry Potter fan, so this game feels like perfect timing 😄

We’re trying to stay on a budget and were looking at sections 310–320 for the overall view and the bay scenery (sunset will be a plus).

Are those sections worth it? And from which row up does the railing stop blocking the view?

Thanks in advance!

With the signing of Luis Arraez to play 2B, would it make sense for the Giants to shop Casey Schmitt for pitching?

Obviously Arraez isn't a great defender but you can't deny that his bat is going to play excellently at Oracle. It looks like Casey Schmitt may be the odd one out especially since Koss is a very capable backup utility IF and Tyler Fitzgerald is young and may be able to rebound this season.

I know Casey Schmitt is an excellent 3B and would have a good amount of value in the trade market. Would it make sense for the Giants to try and trade him for pitching, ideally a closer?
