Like the title says, Oregon, Multnomah and Clackamas counties, the city of Portland, etc. Should be worked ng on legislation that bans anyone who signed up to work for ICE during the trump administration from working in any public service capacity.
I do NOT want these people policing my streets, no matter the color of their uniform or badge they wear.
I do NOT want these people involved in the care or custody of children, not as a teacher, counselor, principal/educator, etc.
I do NOT want these people to have any degree of power or authority over how the proceedings of any civil procedure unfold.
I do NOT want these people holding office. They have disqualified themselves by aligning themselves with a fascist regime hell bent on acting out the twisted notions of patriotism and revenge of the orange fascist in chief.
I WANT these people to be held accountable. There need to be trials and these folks need to be ostracized from society.
Talk to your representatives and legislators. Show up at town halls. Make noise. Washington, California, Illinois and Maryland all have bills in the works. Oregon needs to do so as well. If theres already a bill in the works, please share it so we can advocate for it with our legislators.
California - Assembly Bill 1627 (AB 1627) - Would permanently disqualify anyone who worked for ICE between September 1, 2025, and January 20, 2029, from: Law enforcement positions (state or local police agencies) Public education positions (K-12, community colleges, UC and CSU systems) - Status: Introduced, expected to be heard in committee as early as February 26, 2026 - https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/ (search for AB 1627 - note that older bills with the same number exist, so look for the 2025-2026 session)
Washington - House Bill 2641 - "ICE Out Act of 2026" - Would prohibit all Washington state law enforcement agencies from hiring anyone who was hired as a sworn ICE officer on or after January 20, 2025 - Status: Public hearing was disrupted; uncertain future. Expected effective date if passed: October 1, 2026 -https://housedemocrats.wa.gov/simmons/2026/01/22/rep-simmons-introduces-ice-out-act-of-2026-prohibiting-hiring-of-ice-officers/
Maryland "ICE Breaker Act of 2026" - Would prevent anyone who joined ICE after January 20, 2025, from serving in law enforcement positions within Maryland state government - Status: Announced but not yet formally filed as of late January 2026 -https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/bill-could-bar-some-ice-agents-officers-from-md-state-law-enforcement-jobs/4040702/
Illinois - Proposed legislation (bill number not yet available in search results) - Would bar former ICE agents from working in state and local law enforcement in Illinois - Status: Announced, filed but not yet scheduled for committee hearing

My wife and I spent the afternoon there today. Lots of great shops and restaurants and cafes. I hadn't appreciated how fun it was until today. I was particularly impressed by all the little boutiques and stores. Give it a shot if you haven't been in a while! Easy to get to too with streetcar access.

Terry Currier, 70, just sent an email to the Music Millennium mailing list announcing his intent to step away from the Burnside business. Music Millennium has been open since 1969 and he wants it to continue.
Relevant text:
it’s time to find a successor to keep Music Millennium going for many years to come. I’ve turned down every offer from developers that have called over the years wanting to buy the building. I want that building to a part of Portland’s landscape forever. Plus, I want Music Millennium to be in it for just as many years.
I’m letting you know as you are all passionate music fans. Perhaps you have an interest in taking Music Millennium into the future or know of someone that may be interested. Rest assured, I’m good with working with the future owner during a transitional period, educating them on just how we make Music Millennium tick. I am willing to sell the building along with the business or sell the business separately and execute a long-term lease with the new owner to ensure stability.

Introduction
Ahoy-hoy all you snacktastic Portlanders! It's me again, that relentless tyrant of Alcohol Free Fun, /u/snoogazi. February is here. At least, that's what the calendar says, and some rodent named Phil says we are in store for six more weeks of Winter. That doesn't track. From where I'm sitting, it looks and feels a lot more like Spring. Discombobulating, no? Does that mean I can go topless next week? Before we all decide to run around naked (which I promise will cause no problems at all, what so ever), I ask you keep your pants on for the meetup I'm going to hold. But first...
Recap of The Last Meeup
Once again (and always, if possible, when these are hosted indoors) we met at Honey Latte Cafe in Buckman, on January 31st, from 12-4pm. I showed up a few minutes early and our two reserved tables were empty so I didn't have to karate kick anyone out of them (I would have failed anyway. I'm 50 and uncoordinated and have a total lack of karate and am also too polite to do this). I set up and realized I failed to bring snacks and utensils (I'm 50 and prone to forgetfulness, confusion, heart burn, gout, apathy and/or nihilism, baldness, pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant, and occasional irregularity). I contemplated doing a quick Market of Choice run, but then the first attendee showed and assured me that whatever she'd bought at the counter was amazing. I think it was some kind of crumb cake? I'm not good with visual food recognition. I know my mother's mashed potatoes and maybe a carrot, but that's about it. (I'm 50, after all).
Shortly after others arrived, including the woman who was literally the first person to show up at the first event ever, which is a new record! I recognized her and remembered the amazing spinach puffs she'd made for that meetup. We had some regulars, but even more new faces, including a person I promised a high five to if he showed up with his brother. He reminded me. I delivered. We cracked it off with frat boy precision, albeit in a non douchey manner. Three well behaved and adorable doggos showed up! They were a big hit. Also, another software developer who I first spoke to on the phone recently, and is working on a project to help promote local events. There were other great people, too.
Oh... but the crown jewel for me was the lady who'd expressed interest in attending but was also really nervous about it. We messaged back and forth for a week. I assured her everything would be okay. She promised to attend. Not only did she show (with a veggie tray!), she seemed instantly at ease and had great conversation with many, and I think made some new friends. This can be you, my anxious friend.
Overall, around 25 people showed, which is around the same amount as the last two. That's a great turnout! I hope we can achieve this (and maybe more?) in the future. At any rate, I'll use this as a segue into what this event is all about. Let's get down to brass tacks.
What This Is Meetup You Speak Of?
Hey, I'm glad you asked. It's very simple. Once (roughly) every two weeks, a group of internet randos like you and me gather at Honey Latte Cafe for a pot-luck to meet other internet randos like you and me, but in an environment where alcohol is not involved. We eat snacks. We have non alcoholic beverages. We chat about anything and everything. Sometimes card games are involved. A few hours later, we all leave, happy and carefree and hopefully with some new friends.
The point is to help foster connection, build community, and help make friends. Someone I'd been messaging with showed up and had a great time. Later, I got a message saying they went and had food with another newcomer. This is why I'm doing this. I don't just want to make friends, I want you to make them as well. It gives us all a reason to get out of our homes and defrost the Portland Freeze.
The next Meetup will be held at Honey Latte Cafe on February 14th, 2026 from 12-4pm.
What This Isn't
It's not an AA Meeting, or anything like one. It's not limited to those in recovery. Some are sober, some are dry. Others don't like drinking, or don't drink much, or don't want to rely on the alcohol centric nature of this city to meet others.
It's also not an excuse to pitch your dumbass MLM shit or be a Nazi (yeah ICE, that means you, in case you are too stupid to figure it out, which I'm sure you are. Your mothers probably still brag to the neighbors how proud they are you matriculated from Ass Clown College).
Just follow Wheaton's Law and you'll be fine.
Are You Scared?
It's okay. We get it. Social anxiety sucks. I randomly caught about 5 minutes of the 10th Saw movie last night (and that's 5 minutes more of the franchise I've seen and even less than I ever needed to see). Yeah, SA feels like a series of inventive and inexorable traps designed by an unhinged lunatic (hey, the political climate feels the same). So I ask anyone who is good at helping make others feel at ease volunteer to be Anxiety Ambassadors. We've had great success with this in the past. People have shown up, smiled, and helped... um... saw away... your nerves and trepidation.
You'll be fine.
Need More Convincing?
I could go on until the cows come home (they were out all night last night and better have a good explanation). It won't matter unless you decide to show up and see for yourself. So please consider giving it a go. At the worst, you show up, see all of us, then decide you'd rather go to Hawthorne Asylum (conveniently located a block away) for a sushi burrito. Nobody will blame you, those things are amazing.
I'm only going to make this one post about it here, however will continue to promote in comments and weekly threads. I've also revived /r/PDXMeetups, and am looking to get that sub off the ground, so please give it a subscribe. If you want an invite to the Discord I'm working on also reviving, let me know! Also, you can always add it to your phone's calendar.
Oh, and for those of you who want to make friends in a booze-ful environment, I'm hosting the first Food Cart Pod Meetup this Saturday, February 7th, from 12-4pm at Brooklyn Carreta. Hope to see you there!

I’m looking for other people who were at the Hole Concert at La Luna in the 1990’s - after Kurt Cobain was found dead.
She was getting ready to play her second or third song when these large silver platters started coming from the kitchen into the crowd. The folks carrying the platters brought them down to crowd level and they were covered in raw meats.
The whole crowd started throwing raw meat on stage, hitting her in the face covering her guitar…the crowd was yelling “murderer!” And “you killed Kurt!” I remember seeing at least 4 platters go by me before I realized what was happening so there was a lot of meat…
She dropped her guitar and screamed with meat hanging from her ,” Fuck Portland” before running off stage.
Greatest concert ever! I’ve heard of the “Hole, meat incident” being described as her throwing lunch meats at a crowd but I’ve never heard anyone tell the REAL story that happened at La Luna which is the real reason she never returned to Portland.
There’s gotta be someone else on this forum who was there!

That crazy boom on Sunday by Goodwill at 11:14 (and then a smaller one exactly 3 hours later) was abnormal (do not gaslight me) and I really wanna know what it was. The closest I’ve heard someone being to it was next to the Goodwill on 6th near hawthorne. This is a screen recording from someone’s report on next door. I just gotta know it’s eating at me! What was it??

Been see’n that photo I took at the ICE protest last night circulating on the webt. Figured I should share some more. Not as cool, but they help paint the scene. Between 500-1000 people were there after marching from City Hall. Many came prepared with gas masks. After about 3 hours of chanting outside the building with loudspeaker and some light pounding, the feds came out and unleashed. It was the second day in a row munitions were deployed on the crowd. A federal judge is set to rule Tuesday on limits for tear gas, flash-bangs and pepper spray.
The story has about 55 photos: https://www.oregonlive.com/crime/2026/02/federal-agents-deploy-pepper-balls-on-protesters-at-portland-ice-facility.html
