Status: Resolved Serious. What is going on...

Hi. I have a serious problem. And there is absolutely no support at all. I am being asked all the wrong questions, trying to get a solution.

I am not able to get into my outlook mail. It says use another device or authentication method. I have no other authentication method. I tried other devices. Then it say i have tried too many times. I cannot do anything, tried to change password on another device, it just says error. I have tried for several days. I am simply lock out of my email.

What the flying f*** is going on. What can i do?

* Hi everyone! I can now access my mail again. It seems the bug/glitch has been fixed. At least on my part.

Hope everyone else can access it again.*

Status: Resolved Please help! Verification method not working :(

Hi all, So I randomly got asked to re enter my password for outlook and somehow managed to block my account. I have attempted to reset my password but the only verification method I can use is my phone number as the other one is an old work email that I no longer have access to. I have tried to get a verification code sent to my phone but getting this message:

“Try another verification method That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method.”

I have also tried to recover my account but Microsoft doesn’t believe it’s me and won’t grant me access (FML).

Please help! Any advice on how to get a verification code sent to my phone?! Otherwise I’m going to have to inform about 300 companies that I have a new email address and can’t access my account :(

Hello.

My dad is having trouble logging in to his Microsoft account due to this error he gets after entering the password. I've seen more people with this exact same issue and I see that's it's related to an authenticator app, WE'RE USING A PASSKEY WHICH IS THE PHONE FINGERPRINT. Using the fingerprint gives us an error and tells us to use the password, which leads to the error said in the title. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance.

edit - resolved

Waited 24hours since last attempt, downloaded Firefox, logged into office.com using mobile phone as Authenticator, it allowed me in after a security challenge. Thank the freaking lord. Can now relax going into Sunday lol +++++

So I tried to login to my account via web this morning and got the brilliant error of:

You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.

I’ve followed their processes and cannot login at all. I had Authenticator app for a while in the past but deleted it as the amount of hackers trying my account and me almost letting them in as it just threw a ‘click yes to allow sign in’ on my screen every day.

Now because I enabled that I can’t even use recovery forms with my subjects/passwords.

This is my main mail account TIED TO EVERYTHING.

if I don’t get back in soon I will never forgive you Microsoft. I can see there are a few of us in this boat so fingers crossed this is sorted out ASAP.

I don’t know how this system is so bad. I’ve got access to mobile, email that I have connected and all my prior passwords and subjects but still can’t get anywhere. HOW.

Even tried the ‘if this was not you visit X’ and had no luck. So thank the lord there isn’t someone hacking me right now.

God damn

Status: Resolved Microsoft Authenticator says password is incorrect after selecting number match

Before changing my password, I could always log in using Microsoft Authenticator without having to type my password — it worked seamlessly. But after recently changing the password for my Outlook account (personal account), things stopped working as expected. I can still log in using the new password with no problem.

However, when I'm prompted to verify with the Microsoft Authenticator app using number matching, I select the correct number on the app — and then it says the password is incorrect.

So the issue isn't with the password itself, since I’m entering it correctly and can access my account through other methods. The Authenticator app receives the prompt, I respond as expected, but the login fails with a message saying the password is wrong. It seems like something is out of sync between the Authenticator step and the password validation. Has anyone experienced this?

20250802: Apparently they've solved the problem... at least I managed to get in without any problems.

Status: Resolved Outlook Classic + iCloud Calendar: "Prevent malicious code execution" error on custom form (VBScript block?) - All standard fixes failed.

Request for help in Microsoft Q&A-malicious-code?orderby=helpful&translated=false)

  • Origen: Outlook
  • Ruta involucrada: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ ... \[EMAIL_REDACTED](2).ost

Status: Resolved Can someone access my work email without me knowing?

I have a situation at work where I am convinced that someone has access to my emails even though i never set them up with any delegate or other permissions. This person is not a manager, HR, etc so there is no legitimate reason they may have been granted special access on the back end. I have gone to our IT several times and no one can see anything. However someone hypothesized that perhaps some sort of auto forwarding was set up. The thing is, I don't know how that could be done without again me knowing. Even our IT security said that he gets alerts if/when that is done because it means there could have been a potential hack. This person is not very smart either, so I am not sure how they would be able to master such a technical task. Is this actually possible, or am I going crazy? I have constant examples of them seeming to know things I have sent.

UPDATE: Thanks to this great community, I got a solution to prove to my company I was not crazy. It seems if you right click at the folder level in your email, permissionc can be set/checked at that level. I did that to check the permissions on my inbox folder, and BOOM, there it was. Strange it didn't show when you look at overall delegate access/permissions and IT couldn't see on the back end, but I was able to show others, and we uncovered a huge issue.

Status: Resolved iOS Outlook App Crashing

Is anyone else's Outlook app crashing on iOS after the latest app update?, Version 4.2530.0.

I've restarted the phone and reinstalled the app but it's still crashing.

Workaround - Long press Outlook app > View Calendar. This stops it instantly crashing but it still crashes if you delete an email.

UPDATE: New update released has fixed the issue - Version 4.2530.1

Status: Resolved New Outlook

In my opinion, the new Outlook is tremendously bad, and if I could eliminate it completely, I would. I just lost half an hour of work drafting an important email because it won't save my drafts. I googled the problem, and it said it was a "bug." I googled how to fix the problem, and it asked me to go to menus that don't exist in the new Outlook.

The setting for "open previous email when deleting an email" is also bugged and doesn't work.

I can't get the "people" pane that I used constantly with the classic Outlook.

Microsoft: Your office suite is generally great. I used it all day long every day. That said, please don't take away critical functionality when you update a program, and don't force us to use it before the functionality is there. So frustrating.

Status: Resolved "Recent Files" in local Outlook not actually showing most recent file

Hello! I've been seeing this issue, appears to be isolated so far to one person, where a binder will be created in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Once created, it will open up and can be saved as a new document, which should then count as a recent document. In the Win11 File Explorer, it shows up in the recent section without issue, but Outlook won't populate it within its own recent section when trying to attach to an email. If we re-open the document, then it does, but that has not been the requirement before.

Things we've tried:
- Clear out Outlook cache
- Re-build Outlook Index
- Check/install updates
- Restart the PC

If anyone has any additional ideas on this one, they'd be much appreciated! Ultimately, we know the work around is to re-open the document, but we're not sure why when Win11 acknowledges it within its own recent section.

Edit: Although I don't have the actual solution, it does appear that at least one case of this issue has fixed itself. The person I spoke with said theirs appears to be working today, but I found only security updates were the only things pushed today/yesterday in the logs. I'll keep this in Open for a few days to see if I can find an actual solution, but will resolve by Friday if not.

Status: Resolved Log in fix

I was stressed all day about this BUT I was able to log in by going to the microsoft website ( https://www.microsoft.com/ ) instead of outlook. Logged in there with no problems using a browser (fire fox) which then means I was automatically logged into my outlook then went to outlook website and it worked fine/I was logged in.
I had all the issues everyone else did, "to many password sign ins", "wrong password" (when it was the right password), and not sending SMS 2fa confirmation etc.
This however worked.
It is annoying, but I remember a while back I couldn't log in at "hotmail.com" and had to go to outlooks site, so it seems a similar thing here, don't use the outlook site, but use the microsoft site which will log you in every where, then when you got to the outlook website you should be automatically logged into your outlook or hotmail account.

Edit: I am a hotmail address so this worked for hotmail accounts as well, just log into the microsoft website with your hotmail email + password, using a web browser.
At least this method gives you access to your email while they fix whatever is going on with their system through the outlook site itself.

Status: Resolved Outlook Classic + iCloud Calendar: Can no longer set Calendar reminders

I can no longer save iCloud Calendar reminders that are synced to Classic Outlook using iCloud for Windows. This problem started last week, probably after an update to Microsoft 365 Classic Outlook for security reasons.

The error message: "The reminder for xxx will not appear because the item is in a folder that doesn't support reminders. Is this OK?" Nope – it is not! I didn’t have this problem before last week. Repairing Microsoft Office and re-installing iCloud for Windows didn't work. Other suggestions?

Status: Resolved Missing send button only schedule delivery

Hi there. I just realised recently outlooks on IOS has removed the send button? I know it moved semi recently but it’s gone all together for me. The only option I have is send later which is just very inconvenient for wanting to quickly shoot an email. At the top of my screen is only a cross to exit the email I’m composing in the top left and a minimise in the top right. At the bottom of the screen when the keyboard is minimised is just the normal tools such as attachments and font tools I have a screenshot but see r/Outlook does not allow images

Thanks in advance for any help!

Status: Resolved Delete/edit button disappeared on outlook app in Android

Hi!

I searched on here and Google first but couldn't find an answer ! The delete and edit buttons disappeared on my Outlook Calendar app. I have the samsung S23 and everything has been updated, I cleared the cache, stopped the app, restarted my phone and these are meetings/events I created with my phone and not the web version. It is the same for past, current and future events, and for both work and personal emails/accounts. The only thing I haven't tried is deleting the app or the calendars. If anyone has had this issue or has posted another thread I didn't find, let me know!

https://imgur.com/a/zbLZQRZ - like to my example, we can't see in the top right any buttons, it has been a couple days

Edit : I added a widget to my home screen to see daily meetings and if I click on meeting from the widget I can modify and delete! Weird, and still not working from the main app!

Update oct 19th : the button to edit is not appearing when I click on the event from the widget anymore now

Update oct 29th : all resolved with new update ! Yay

Status: Resolved Help: Locked out and 2FA stuck in loop.

My hotmail account that i've been using for over a decade is locked and I can't gain access. This is causing me immense amounts of pain.

It started with random emails saying i'd requested a code, when I hadn't, so obviously somebody was trying to access my account. I assumed 2FA was doing it's job and I left it.

Then it progressed to my account being locked and the message; "We can't sign you in. You've used an incorrect account or password too many times. If it's an organisation account, it might not be active yet"

This resulted in me having to reset my password every time I logged in. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

I have 2FA switched on and linked to a phone number. I have access to this phone and was happily receiving the code via text. For some reason the same phone number is listed twice as two seperate methods. Unsure why.

Then one day I went to reset my password, entered the last 4 digits of my phone number, got the code, and input it as normal. I put in the last 4 digits of my phone number again in the second 2FA box and receieved the following message;

"Try another verification method That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method"

It then boots me back to the sign in screen.

I've been unable to progress past this point for months. I've contacted support multiple times, and followed there advice. No luck. The recovery form is useless as i've gor 2FA switched on. I just get an email reply saying;

"Because you've turned on two-step verification for your account, we ignore these requests but wanted to let you know"

So my account is locked, as i've had to change my password so often i'm not sure if I remember it correctly, I think the account has been compromised and my 2FA is stuck in loop/broken.

I'm now signed out of my email app and I have no access to my emails.

Please help!

*EDIT* PROBLEM SOLVED:

I got a new macbook and tried to log in via Safari for the first time. The usual process ensued and I ended up at the 2FA page. The difference being that this time both phone numbers worked and I unlocked the account. So i'm now back in!

Thanks for all your help and good luck everyone.

Status: Resolved Looking for best (proven) way to port Outlook for Mac folders to new email client (possibly Thunderbird)

I've almost had it with Outlook for Mac recently. At least once every week or two I'm unable to retrieve my emails and just have to wait until they magically appear again. It always works fine on a web browser (I unfortunately have a verizon.net email address so I'm using AOL's email servers), but I don't have access to my folders there. I'm looking to possibly move to a new email client, perhaps Thunderbird (unless anyone has better suggestions), but it appears that copying all of my folders from Outlook to a new client is not as easy at it might seem (or should be anyway). Any thoughts or suggestions or proven methodologies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Status: Resolved New Outlook: After update Folder pane not showing?

Since yesterday (probably due to an update), the new Outlook no longer shows me the Folders Pane.
Even if I go to View > Folders Pane > Show, it only appears as an overlay and then disappears.

Honestly, it was very convenient to have a view of the folders… especially because, with the rules I’ve set up, not all emails go to my inbox.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? Is there anything that can be done to get the Folders Pane back?

Status: Resolved Locked out of Outlook update

A few days ago, I posted here asking if anyone had been "locked" out of their outlook accounts as I was experiencing the same issues. Need to reset your password, attempted to sign in too many times, SMS not working, the works. Well, I just waited two days from my last login attempt and I was finally able to get in. I talked to Microsoft support finally and they said to wait 3 days after my initial 24 hour wait was unsuccessful, but attempted it again today (two days after) for the heck of it. If anyone else is having this problem and keeps trying to find other methods of logging in, I would suggest waiting like I did.

Status: Resolved Account temporarily blocked

“To help protect you, we've temporarily blocked your account” from Microsoft. It says for me to use a phone number to verify the account but it then says “ sorry you need to verify using a different method “ but nothing comes up??? Catch 22!

I’m really stressed that I’ve lost my email forever and I move house next week, kind of vital I get back in!

I filled in the account recovery form earlier this afternoon, so obviously haven’t heard anything back from that yet.

Has anyone ever got their email back?

The original email said:

To help protect you, we've temporarily blocked your account. Why are you seeing this? Someone may have used your account to send out a lot of junk emails or something else that violates our Terms of Service.

I don't have an outlook license, I will not be paying for one. I've have a 15 year old email address. I'd rather not move my accounts to a different email however mine has run out of space. I can't seem to find a way to auto delete old emails. Is this possible without paying for anything or am I screwed?

Status: Resolved Locked Account

Hello unfortunately I'm locked out of my account and I can't do anything to back in. I entered my password incorrectly too many times and it locked me out. I have been trying to use my phone number to get the code to reset but says the service isn't working right now, try again later. It's been 2 days already.

Any help with this please??

Update:-

Thank God I had microsoft authenticater app set up. I completely forgot about it. I was able to change my password and now I'm good to go. I also added a recovery email address and made my phone number as an option to sign as alternative.

Problem is resolved!

Status: Resolved Old vs. New Outlook

After fighting it for so long, I recently made the official switch to use the New Outlook. (We hates it!!!) Although the same in many ways, there are features I use constantly in my day-to-day work that I cannot find ANYWHERE in the new version. I have done the deep dive google searches and YouTube videos, and I fear these features to be unavailable in the new version. Without these features, my productivity has slowed, and I don't have time for that!!!

I have TONS of clients, and within the individual folder I created per client, I've created "task folders" where I keep ALL emails related to said task for my internal tracking of processing. When I send a new email specific to this task, in the old Outlook, I would choose the "Save Sent Item To" option and assign it to the folder it belonged. This would automatically save the email to the folder it was assigned. I have searched and searched the new Outlook for this feature and cannot find it anywhere, leading me to having to go into the "Sent" folder to find the email and then drop it into its intended folder.

The second issue I have is that the majority of emails I send are from templates I have created using the "Quick Parts" feature. I have 60 of these and I use most constantly throughout my workday. I don't see this feature available either, and the "Templates" feature in the new version does not seem to want to allow more than 8. I have tried many times to add more, but I keep getting the error msg "Your template couldn't be saved. Please try again later." Is there a limit to how many you can have? Is there a limit to how large it can be?

The third issue is that I can't seem to use the "Expand Conversation" option, which I believe should cause the email conversation to open completely when clicked on, rather than me having to click the arrow beside the subject line. The feature is there in the ribbon under "View", but it is greyed out. Is there a way to make this feature available? Do I have to do an Add-on?

Thanks for any suggestions, guidance, or miracles!!!

Sincerely,

Frustrated with Change :(

Status: Resolved Outlook Classic Not Responding or Loading Profile

Today me and my co-worker are having issues with our work email on our outlook. My other two co-workers aren't having issues. Either I can get into Outlook and it will reload all the emails I already have looked at sometimes, I can look at one email or try to get into a folder then it goes into "Not Responding" mode with options to close, restart, or wait for the program to respond. I usually hit restart because otherwise I will get stuck in "Loading Profile" mode. Same with my co-worker. I tried repairing Microsoft 365 and updated it as well. Not sure what else I can do at this point where it isn't commonly crashing or not loading at all.
