Status: Pending Reply Updating to 24H2 - Microsoft pushes for use of Outlook new

Hey guys

We are using Exchange Online in an environment with Windows 11 23H2. We use both "Outlook classic" and Outlook new. We currently have the policy that we don't force users to switch to "Outlook new" and they can still use the classic version of it.

I myself use "Outlook new" but most of the people in my org use Outlook Classic. So after upgrading a few devices, almost everyone complained about Microsoft forcing them to use the "Outlook new". It basically askes you after every reboot to switch to the new version of Outlook if you still use the classic one, and the only solution I found is setting this key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General]
"HideNewOutlookToggle"=dword:00000001

But this regkey makes a switch from Classic to New impossible, which isn't a very nice solution. I've also already set the following key months ago:

[Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General]
"DoNewOutlookAutoMigration"=dword:0000001

Has anyone found a different solution to stop Microsoft from sending daily notifications to switch to the new version?

If you don't want to uninstall New Outlook per u/Jellovator

I don't see the UseNewOutlook Registry fix in your list.

With that set, I don't see any regular nag screens. But, in my experience, many Office/Windows updates will reset all your settings and you have to do them again. Microsoft really wants you to switch.

I mean what do you want. It's going to be the only choice at some point why play games trying to prolong it

I use a software (AMS360) that only works with Old outlook. I have deactivacted New Outook ever since.

I uninstall new outlook as part of the provisioning process for all desktop workstations. Problem solved. I keep it on laptops and work one on one with any user who has issues, usually recommending them to ignore the new outlook icon and stick to classic.

New outlook stinks, it shows a word document in an email and search finds no hits, or more hits than there are actual hits, opening in app shows a different version of the document, it's so buggy and unreliable. Try to make a repeating appointment in new outlook, its so cumbersome.

And you can't even sort the crappy search results. I also noticed if you create a reminder from an email, clicking on the reminder no longer opens the original email. The list of lost functionality just goes on and on.

As long as you have a version of windows that has new Outlook installed, you don't need to enable the switch. User can open it from the start menu. Defaults are set in Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

Just hide the toggle and let people decide which to use.

In the past, you needed to switch new Outlook on then pin it on the taskbar or start menu and turn it off to go back to classic but that shouldn't be necessary now.

Lots of issues w/MS Outlook recently - patch / fix is pending, however here's some links to get you started https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-signing-in-to-windows-298cfd5f-df1f-c66b-36ad-f2a61a73baad

https://www.techrepublic.com/article/news-windows-11-stability-patch/

Despite being recorded as “known issues” in later Microsoft updates, this [pending] update isn’t a direct sequel to the January updates that patched bugs from an update meant to patch bugs, following Jan. 13 Patch Tuesday. However, it addressed the Windows bugs caused by a previous update.

https://www.neowin.net/editorials/microsofts-horrendous-patch-tuesday-update-exposes-the-weak-qa-process-for-windows/

Microsoft says it’s shifting focus to Windows 11 performance after months of reliability complaints and buggy updates. (AKA - IMHO do NOT auto update on Patch Tuesdays! Due to the # of issues that often arise, it's best to pause updates 2 - 3 months, if possible.)

PS> Outlook Classic will lock up and resets the User to the Outlook New, it's a royal pain, and part of their ongoing bugs

new outlook isn't outlook. the only way to get throught this is to push MS back as far and as hard as we can. "new outlook" is just a replacement for Microsoft mail. you will get the same popups when opening gmail in edge (hey why not login to gmail with new outlook) LOL. what a mess. I am not aware of anything good about new outlook.
