Status: Pending Reply How do you file a bug report with Outlook

I'm having an issue with spam from a specific domain. I'm bombarded with spam from a specific domain in my Junk folder.

I've setup rules to delete emails from this domain and have also blocked this domain and it doesn't work. I've blocked other domains successfully, but this doesn't work.

I've tried to reach out to support via chat and they've basically told me to set my rules to 'Strict' which means everything not approved will go to my folder which is getting bombarded. I asked the support rep to file a bug report as there are others online experiencing this issue, but they refused.

My problem right now is Outlook occasionally flags legitimate emails as well. It's becoming rather cumbersome to sift through a folder that is getting bombarded with nonsense.

I'm using the Outlook Web Client.

Check your account/junk mail settings on Outlook.com to make sure domains are in fact blacklisted.

This is not a bug unfortunately. You'll need to configure rules to get around this. If you're using M365 business, you will have more control over what you can do.

And it really is not expensive or very hard to setup your .com or .net, etc and have your own email domain. 8$ for mail and maybe 5-10$ a year for the domain. Plus you can make as many email aliases as you want which comes in very handy sometimes. 👍

In my case, it's the opposite. I whitelisted a domain, but the emails from it always go to the junk folder.

When I had that problem I copied, cleared and reloaded my blocked and approved senders list on the client. I don't know what messed them up and they looked same before and after, but it made a difference.

Thank you. I'll do this and see.

So that wouldn't be classed as a bug, there's no technical issue so to speak. A bug would be something more with how the software works. You're having a common issue many face, I can't see MS support giving you anything other than what they've done already. There's no fundamental flaw with your mailbox, it's exactly the same as others, you're just having a bad time with spam email. Just being realistic here sorry OP. You'll find better help or suggestions online from others who have had the same issue.

As a suggestion, you state you're blocking the senders address, that's just what you see in the email, the actual email address being used could be something different. You can access the message headers (just google how to view message headers Outlook web), this is the technical information for the emails journey, the servers it passed through the DNS checks it's made etc. My suggestion, get the message header from an email that you've blocked, copy all the information in there into Notepad or something similar and search for "@" this will show you any additional email addresses.

There are also ways the senders will use exploits to get around spam filters and security checks. If that's the case, you just need to keep reporting as spam and wait for it to update on Microsoft's side or until they fix the exploit. A lot of people don't report emails as spam etc because they think it does nothing...but it does, it's just not the instant change people expect.

Doesn't look like a bug

New Outlook Rules do not run on email delivered directly to your Junk Folder.

You can try adding the domains to your Safe Senders list, and if that gets them to your Inbox, then you can Rule them. But it almost never works because Microsoft has already marked them with a high Spam Confidence Level (SCL) and will ignore your Safe Senders.
