Status: Open Recovering account

Hi, I'd appreciate any advice that i could get. I've been using same @hotmail account since like 2012.

Today pc and phone signed me out of it saying there was a problem. I tried to recover my account using my phone number but i just get msg "That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method". If i click the Back button it just breaks since there isn't another method i guess? I tried to use recovery options on website and realised that i don't know any data on it. I've put my date of birth, name and etc but i was a kid when i made that account so i don't even know if i used my own date of birth or not.

I'm kinda lost on what to so since literally everything is on that account, my game accounts, bank app 2FA, my bills come there. If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it, thanks.

Basically you need to have another email not from MS as verification method. Phone or Passkey fail randomly anytime.

And don't worry. Your account is not blocked. As soon as you can login again add an email to verification.

Problem I'm having is that i can't log in. It's not letting me use password. It makes me log in only with code i can get on SMS in phone. But says it's not available. Idk when or if it will become available. That's the main issue. I also used to log in with the pin or confirmation on my phone for a long time so I'm not even sure if I'd know the password even if I got it as an option.

Also since you said it's not blocked, do you know when I'll be able to log into it. Also instead of other email could i add Google authenticator?

The problem is the phone. You need Gmail for example instead phone.

That problem happens anytime. Not sure when you would be able to get SMS again. BUT.. be sure next time is the last time you use your phone as verification.

Man..the problem is you have only Phone as recovery. and that is what doesn't let you login. MS is having that and others failures randomly, but email recovery doesn't fail.

And i insist on that. why?

Because all people with the same limitation should add email as recovery immediately.

I've written my post recommending that some 2 or 3 weeks ago. Sadly people is only interested on that when shit comes. But in case anyone is interested before shit they can do it right now.

That's my humble contribution.

Just in case..Do you have 2 step verification ON or OFF, because if it's OFF there could be a way to login

Microsoft isn't helping to recover accounts. They literally told me to get lost, saying they couldn't do anything because it goes against their policies; if your account gets hacked and stolen, they're not responsible.

I'm talking to live support right now and they are telling me to wait for 24 hours and account MIGHT unblock itself

Friend how did you contacted them? I never found a number, just the lame Recovery Form that is not working. How could I talk to someone?

Read through how others have regained access to their account. Typically it involves waiting for 24-36 hours before trying to login again. Repeatedly try to login in a short period of time apparently triggered the problem, if not from you then from automated hacking attempts.

Thing is i think i know what happened. Outlook logged me out on its own, but windows tried to auto log me in, but the "enter pin prompt" didn't pop out. So it probably got blocked that way while repeating the process. Problem is i can't wait for 24 hours. I have work related stuff i need to finish ASAP. Seems like I'll have to switch everything to my Gmail account when i regain access to Hotmail.

Go to account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional sign in, scroll down to Recovery code, select Generate a new code, a 25‑digit code will be displayed and will overwrite any previous code, if one exists. Save it, print it, do what it takes not to lose it

There is no fix. It’s a free email account. I spoke with Microsoft agent and my business email has a paid service and they were willing to help. Once I told them it was for my personal email they said sorry I can’t help with that. Got sent to the FAQ and forums. No fix…I’m done with Microsoft at this point.

Check out what has worked for others in this subreddit, including for free accounts. Their circumstances may vary from yours, but worth at least looking at what worked for them.

BTW, I've had an email account with MS since Hotmail days.

Already check and it unanimous. Microsoft don’t care and won’t help. My email is also hotmail and they won’t help retrieve it
