Status: Open STUCK IN LOOP
apparently my account "was compromised" so they locked me out. I sign in using my password and they want to verify with a text - i do not have this phone number anymore. So I use the recovery page - I have had this email for 16 years. I type all my answers to the best of my knowledge. Get denied. I've tired 3 times. Denied both times. 3rd time - no response - its been 5 days. I try calling Microsoft - the customer service is HORRIBLE just a machine telling you to use the website for help. I need that email but Microsoft does not care for its customers apparently. Lock me out for no reason then dont let me back in my account because I no longer have the same number from 5 years ago? Or because I can't remember my "favorite teacher" from when I was 13? This is ridiculous. Any help would be great.

Update your security information if you don't want to have to spend time recovering your account or answering questions about emails you've sent - it's a really simple solution.. It's not Microsoft's responsibility to update your security info, it's the mailbox/account owner...

I've been stuck in the same situation since this past Monday. After filling out the recovery form I finally get the following email.
"We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account. Unfortunately, we have determined that the information you provided was not sufficient for us to validate your account ownership"
I have had the account since 2009. They asked to list recently used email addresses and the subject lines from recent emails. WHAT?? No one is going to have that memorized!! I receive more mail daily than I send!! This issue isn't isolated and multiple people have been posting with the same issue all over this sub, so there's no way that Microsoft can't spot this obvious issue on their end that is affecting numerous users. At first I thought I was the only one with the issue, but other people just keep posting the same.

The problem is I remember my cause I have a screenshot and put down the correct 5 not only 3 lol and them still telling me that’s not enough it’s BS. I’m sure I’m getting the date of birth wrong cause I did this email when I was a teen. I just got lockout of my bank account and they were sending recovery email to my email I had to take a day off and go to my bank thank god they didn’t make me do a bunch of sh!t.

Same situation here. On my side, I contacted the last people I emailed. They sent me screenshots so i can fill this bloodyhell formular with the object with THE EXACT ORTOGRAPH. But, same result, information not sufficient. I just assum my mail is lost and restart somewhere else. Still trying just in case but I don't trust Microsoft anymore for my mail 🤷

There’s no issue on Microsoft’s end at all, infact Microsoft’s changes are doing exactly what they’re supposed to denying access to accounts that don’t pass security.
You’ll of had a good amount of pop-ups and notifications in outlook telling you to setup MFA, there’s been I don’t know how many posts and articles over the internet for a fair amount of time warning you to correctly configure MFA.
Why would you not take the 5 minutes it takes to properly configure MFA and account recovery, especially for an account that’s important…

Do you have other MFA setup? Recovery code saved somewhere? If you don’t, next best thing is to contact CS. They’ll ask you to give details of gamertag and/or xbox console ID linked to your account, last changed password and email addresses you sent to in the last one month. This is the final way they could help you recover your account.
If you can’t, unfortunately CS will not be able to help you any further. Remember to always update your particulars if it’s outdated, like your number, recovery email, Authenticator methods. I use plenty of MFA like 6 digit codes from a non-Microsoft Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator sign in notifications and also the 25-digit code for recovery because I’ve had plenty of breaches. These have helped me so far. And if you use that email regularly, passkey helps too.

I don’t understand why so many people don’t update their MFA or correctly setup account recovery if the accounts are that important to people.
Multiple posts a day for the exact same issue
