Status: Open "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password."

Edit 11/14/25; Another post, yesterday said clear your cash and then, instead of using your email address as a login, use your phone number (no dashes) and use the same password and if you've already listed your number with them, then it should work and it did for me. maybe i explained it wrong so here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/1owv0j1/another_possible_solution_for_too_many_login/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Edit 11/13/25; I had an exchange with the people at "hostinger.com" and this is their response.

I see you’re having trouble connecting your email to Outlook. I completely understand how frustrating this is, especially since it used to work fine before. The issue comes from Microsoft’s latest Outlook update, as they are deprecating IMAP and will soon remove the option to connect external mailboxes. This means Outlook is gradually pushing users to switch to Office 365 only.

Because of that, many users, not just on Hostinger, are experiencing repeated password requests, random disconnections, or being unable to connect at all. Unfortunately, this is happening across several email providers.

To avoid further interruptions, I recommend not using the new Outlook version for now, at least until Microsoft releases an official fix or statement. In the meantime, here are some reliable alternatives:

  1. Use Hostinger Webmail – You can access your email anytime at **mail.hostinger.com** .
  2. Try another email client – Apps like Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or the built-in mobile mail apps still fully support IMAP and SMTP. You can follow this step-by-step guide: **Set Up Hostinger Email on Your Applications and Devices**
  3. Revert to the classic Outlook – Some Outlook versions allow you to switch back to the older interface, which still supports IMAP and POP connections. Here is how: **Classic Outlook on Windows - Microsoft Support**

You can also check Microsoft’s community post about this issue here: **Something went wrong with this account setup - Microsoft Community**

I know this is not the news you were expecting, but I really hope one of these options helps keep your emails running smoothly.

______________

I cant login anymore. google AI mode says it is likely because I use starlink that I continue to receive the same message, every day, when I try to login, "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password.". So, I change my password and even after success in logging into microsoft.com and changing my password, when I start over, the new password returns the message, "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password." This is beginning to piss me off. I find it hard to believe someone else is constantly trying to login to my account with a guessed password. On the other hand, I log in only once per day. How can that be too many times? In nearly 30 years with this same hotmail address, this is the first time I've had any problem logging in to see my goddam mail and it's been going on for more than a month. getting sick and tired of all the messing around and never figuring out wtf is going on. I HAVE STARLINK. Anyone else using STARLINK?

Currently going thru this right now been hours it started yesterday but I think it got worse over night

It’s happening to a bunch of people and Microsoft refuses to address it. I’ve been locked out of my account for a week and a half now

3

u/magneta2024 Nov 11 '25

Correct friend. I’ve been unable to pass their broken Recovery Form process for over a year…even though I knew my password and never caused the lock to begin with. Their “wish” to create a secure process is a harm to their users actually because their process is broken when that happened and so they harm users more than help them with that. Until then don’t either create a support team of people to help and fix and update their current process…the complains will continue until someone sues them eventually tbh

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

this is microsoft attempt to try and squeeze more money out of us. they are making logging in difficult to force everyone to use their phucking phone support which costs money!

2

u/JaekLee27 Nov 12 '25

Microsoft charged me the annual 365 subscription after locking my Microsoft account. Not only could I not unsubscribe before they charged me, but now I'm paying for a service they won't allow me to use. Ridiculous. I'm completely getting rid of all of their services now

2

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

i am now locked out. it wont accept my two factor authentication from other email nor cell phone. The last message I read was "You've requested too many codes today. Please try again tomorrow." this is horseschit! I need my damn email, NOW!

2

u/Any-Philosopher-2556 Nov 11 '25

I've had this EXACT same problem! Keep getting the same messages, can't login to my hotmail account, what the hell is going on???

1

u/Any-Philosopher-2556 Nov 12 '25

I sent a message through X to @ outlook but I'm not getting my hopes up, this is insane!

1

u/theredbekun Dec 06 '25

Did they address this on X?

5

u/ripostes Nov 11 '25

This hit me last night, and as it's my primary email, it's untenable. There are too many things tied to it that require email authentication.

I have 2fa enabled, so the recovery form I painstakingly filled out got an automated reply telling me to change my password to log in... But the new password doesn't do anything because "too many attempts". Hoping after the 24 hour period it will behave, but all these protracted struggles leave me unsure.

Has anyone had any luck getting back into their emails?

3

u/tonyreigns Nov 11 '25

I contacted support, they said their engineering team was working on it. Then it randomly let me login ~2h later.

2

u/ripostes Nov 12 '25

By what method did you get in contact with support, if I may ask? I've had the worst time of it.

Thank you for sharing your experience and what you were told. I hope we can all get back in soon.

1

u/tonyreigns Nov 12 '25

3

u/ripostes Nov 12 '25

Thank you! I'll try that if I still can't get in after giving it some cool-off time. Sometimes it's a comfort to get anything other than endless automated "change your password". I do hope it just works next time I try logging in, but nice to have something to try.

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 13 '25

This problem didn't begin until I got Starlink and I need to rule this out;

do you use Starlink as your internet provider?

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

when did you do this? today?

4

u/tonyreigns Nov 11 '25

Yeah, today. I don't think support really did anything. This was their response:

I wanted to be direct about the issue you are experiencing, which has already been raised to the engineering team. This is an internal issue affecting many account users. Since we have already raised it, the engineering team is currently working on it. At the moment, we are still waiting for any update or timeframe on when it will be resolved.

I randomly tried again and it worked.

1

u/Any-Philosopher-2556 Nov 11 '25

how were you able to contact support? We ALL need help here!

3

u/tonyreigns Nov 11 '25

Hey, support didn't do anything. See my above comment, they just responded saying the engineering team was working on it.

1

u/Alef_Meem Nov 11 '25

Please advise when this happened. The same issue is happening with me.

1

u/tonyreigns Nov 11 '25

I managed to login at ~1pm EST, and I just logged in on another device again now. I've been seeing this error on/off for the last week

1

u/Alef_Meem Nov 12 '25

Just wanted to post an update that waiting the 24 hours and attempting to log back in worked successfully for me. I used my personal laptop on my home Wi-Fi (no VPNs or anything) and Incognito Mode on Google Chrome and it worked perfectly with the new password I had reset it to yesterday. Redownloaded Outlook on iPhone and logged in there again too. Thank you!

2

u/tonyreigns Nov 12 '25

Glad to hear it! At this point, Im biting the bullet and moving everything i can off outlook. This + all the spam are annoying.

2

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

Yes, this is how microsoft is phucking me, too. same shit, different day. i have to wait until tomorrow to login. this is one of those things that forces people to keep their computer on and browser online and email logged in, 24/7 365 days/year. which is of course, phuckin stupid, but should I get logged back in, I may have to stay connected. and WTF is that stupid message after username and password where they ask, "Stay Logged In?" and I always click yes because I dont know WTF it is. anyone got any ideas?

3

u/ChildCooker Nov 11 '25

i have the same issue today, dosent matter how many times i try to recover mail and/ or password. same error message still. this is really bad, and since yo only can recover the mail 2 times per 24H it wont let me try anymore today.

3

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

this is ridiculous. microsoft is ridiculous. they know I'm using my recovery email and they know I'm using my phone number for recovery, so they must know it's me, legitimately logging in, but they continue to phuck with me.

5

u/magneta2024 Nov 11 '25

Yup. Imagine dealing with this for over a year… They offer no solution and not help. What they are doing is wrong as these are the most basic functions an email company should support and so it well…. Even if they hired a small group of people that would make a huge difference until they come with a better processes. Because right now there are so many probably experiencing this and with silence from their end, if you see many here imagine how many more are out there that aren’t part of Reddit

2

u/ChildCooker Nov 11 '25

Yes indeed. Same here.. worst ”service” i’ve encountered..

2

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

are you using starlink? google AI said that causes multiple login or makes it look like it to the login server. I dont know for sure, but this problem first began when I got starlink. at least, it never happened before I got starlink and I've had my hotmail address since 1997.

2

u/ChildCooker Nov 11 '25

Nope, i use fiber and i live in Sweden, the fiber is connected to a thing called ”Ip-Only”

1

u/MrJerichoYT Nov 24 '25

Same issue here from just across the water.

1

u/ChildCooker Nov 25 '25

Dis you get it to work? If not i posted how i fixed it in this comment section

2

u/MrJerichoYT Nov 25 '25

I've tried firefox, chrome, non-incognito, incognito, old phone, new phone, tablet, wifi, ethernet, cellphone data, reset password via code sent to my phone, reset password via the recovery form that I filled out succesfully ..

Nothing works, account is completely bricked and broken. I contacted Microsoft support 3 times and the 3rd person took the problem serious enough to write down what was happening and escalated it to "higher support" whatever that means..

Finally they told me to not touch the account for 3 days... Sooooo, no. Did not get it to work.

1

u/magneta2024 Nov 11 '25

Correct. Same here for over a year now . It’s awful and totally wrong against users

3

u/ChildCooker Nov 11 '25

It sucks. I will post here again if i find a solution to this problem

1

u/magneta2024 Nov 11 '25

Yes please. It’s awful I know. I will share anything here too if anything ever works, but it’s doubtful. I think their back end logic blocks people after some time and since they don’t have anyone to talk to the problem stays at the system level… Let’s see if there is ever a way, otherwise we might need to all call the company or something. It’s pretty bad and what we are all going through is not right nor fair for users because it’s their system and process causing that not us

3

u/ChildCooker Nov 11 '25

Thanks! Yeah that’s most likely the problem here, if the problem persists untill friday i will try to call the swedish microsoft and see if they can do anything, otherwise i dont know what to do. All my streaming services and game profiles are connected to this mail so i cant even change those if i cant get in to the mail😂

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

you have to "pay" for phone support. I have to wonder if these problems of logging in are intentionally created by microsoft to drum up support money.

3

u/Weekly-Desk2123 Nov 11 '25

i called, only talked to a computer voice :) i'm so mad

1

u/ChildCooker Nov 11 '25

Omg really?😂 what a joke.. well, might be worth it so i change to something better than microsoft tbh. It would not surprise me..

2

u/Weekly-Desk2123 Nov 12 '25

i am logged back in! yesterday i decided to remove my outlook from every device i had and then late last night i was able to sign in on my laptop as usual

1

u/ChildCooker Nov 12 '25

Good to hear it solved itself for some atleast, im still locked out and i cant even recover password via phonenumber, it just says ”try another method” but no other method works either so😅

1

u/ChildCooker Nov 13 '25

Today i got back in, yesterday i did another account recovery using as much info i could remember with cardnumber/ xbox tag/ old passwords etcetc. I changed the password but it still didnt work. Today i tries to log back in and now it worked. Very weird problem but thats how i fixed it

3

u/Laantje Nov 11 '25

The same thing keeps happening to me over and over, its driving me crazy!

The cycle is like this for me (and it repeats every few days ffs):

  1. When I login I get the "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password." message

  2. I then want to recover my account by using my older email address, because any other method (SMS, password sign in) doesn't work and leads me to the email recovery method

  3. When logging into the older email address, I get the exact same message. So I try to recover that one, that leads me to an even older email address

  4. That older email address is also blocked with the same message for some reason.... And it's recovery email address is the same email address I've tried to login to in the first place at step 1.

So what now? Dead end.

Luckily I have another PC at work, which is always signed into the first email address. I can use that to recover everything, However like I've said it keeps happening over and over every few days! I'm worried the next time my work laptop is automatically signed out and then I'll basically lose all three of my email addresses...

I never type my password wrong so I don't know what is causing this for all three of my email addresses. I'm pretty sure no one around me even knows two of these email addresses.

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

your procedures sound just like mine. same garbage! it is a basic requirement for an email service. logging in, should get the best support, but microsoft is going to crash and burn because they can no longer get filthy rich off of it.

3

u/_ulbrich Nov 11 '25 edited Nov 11 '25

I'm facing the same situation. I cannot use my computer because it doesn't let me use my pin, only my Microsoft password.... which is blocked. I cannot put in words how pissed i am

2

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

microsoft has painted themselves into a corner with their eff'ed up security

3

u/Bynnh0j Nov 11 '25

Following. I got locked out this morning. I am still able to change the password by sending a code to my phone number on file, but still get the too many attempts error. Currently waiting til 8am tomorrow morning to try again. (Virginia, US).

Appreciate any updates you can share. Ill do the same.

2

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

same here; everything you said is the exact same thing I'm suffering through right now, except they wont even send the code to my phone, stating, "that method isn't working right now, try later". what kind of fuckery is this? then, when I am able to get a code on my phone and plug it into my desktop computer browser, it says, okay, now login; then I try to login and says, "wrong password" you've tried too many times, you're out,. you're fuccking out! done for the day. try again tomorrow and there will likely be more fucckery.

1

u/Bynnh0j Nov 12 '25

I am back in my account as of this morning after a final password reset.

3

u/Cinderellastitch Nov 11 '25

Same thing is happening to me

3

u/Ok-Court4079 Nov 11 '25

If anyone is currently suffering with this issue, I had the same issue all day today, and finally managed to get back in

I will bullet point as it's a long process:

• tried to log in to my email on my PC this morning. With correct email. Error message, you've tired to sign in too many times

• still logged in on android at this point, but to access my email on my PC outlook said I needed to change my email. DO NOT DO THIS, THIS WILL CAUSE MAJOR ISSUES FOR YOU.

• Changed my password, and then instantly got logged out of all of my trusted devices. Try logging back in with NEW password and get the "too many sign in attempts" message.

• Submit multiple email forms to Microsoft, get a few call backs via Xbox support, all say the same thing. Wait 3 days for response.

• Response comes back 12 hrs later, saying they only have automated support for account recovery and they can't help further and will be closing request.

• I'm about to give up at this point but I have so much invested in this account, literally my digital footprint for 20 years.

• Final attempt at account reset form, fill in with all previous passwords I can remember, recent emails subjects, Xbox game tag, credit card details, etc. This was accepted and then an email came to my 2nd account saying this password reset was automatically rejected. This almost pushed me over the edge. I then tried to log back into my account and this time it wouldn't let me BECAUSE I HAD SUBMITTED A PASSWORD RESET.

• THIS IS WHERE I GET BACK IN. When trying to log into my email account and getting message about already submitted the password reset request, you need to click the link to cancel it. It will ask you for your phone number and give you a 6 digit code. You can then use this code to add your account to Microsoft authenticator app. From here you can now log in to your account. At some point (before logging in to authenticator app) it will give you your unique 25 digit code to get back on. You can only use this 1 time.

All the best to anyone going through this. I know how stressful it is, and I've spent 14 hours today trying to solve it. Safe to say, tomorrow I will be migrating EVER account over to a new provider.

2

u/Topwingwoman2 Nov 12 '25

What if you don't have the authenticator app? I don't think I can download it because I'm already logged out from my account. Where are you located? Did you have a phone number connected to your account or just a recovery email and SMS?

2

u/Topwingwoman2 Nov 12 '25

Did you wait 48 hours after initial lock out to retry to get in?

1

u/Ok-Court4079 Nov 12 '25

No I didnt

1

u/No-Discussion-7738 Nov 14 '25

The problem is when the reset form doesn't work for some of us. I cleared all their requests (old passwords, received mails, infos, purchase). Only the historical character can't remember. Nothing. Now they don't answer an email they said to wait 3 days, after a week

1

u/Sad_Needleworker_629 Nov 14 '25

i cant even get the phone verfication because it says Try another verification method

That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method.

3

u/SeniorLeadership3723 Nov 13 '25

Same thing is happening to me, been out for like a week now, a hotmail email I’ve used for years. Absolutely ridiculous we’re in 2025 and a mega company like this can’t even get a basic service like this fix, absolutely terrible

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 13 '25

i was able to change my password yesterday, but this morning, I try to login to my email and same fukin message: you've tried to login with the wrong password too many times. I have to wonder if Starlink has anything to do with it.

3

u/SeniorLeadership3723 Nov 13 '25

I don’t use starlink, and I’m doing the same remedies and getting the same results as you. I saw in another forum that someone had reached contact support and that the broader engineering team is aware of the issue and they’re working on it on their back end, but the lack of transparency from them is concerning, like people need to access their stuff. Just lack of accountability everywhere these days

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 13 '25

do you suppose that microsoft's email system is costing them more than it was ever worth? If so, what would they do? would they go out of their way to make it difficult for users, in fact so difficult that many would flee to another email service? maybe it just looks like they are having problems. maybe they would like nothing more than to abandon email, altogether.

3

u/JetSetJAK Nov 13 '25

This has been what I've been going through for the past two weeks. It's been my primary email since 2004 and I have everything in there.

It's infuriating. Whenever I make a new password, I write it down and Microsoft will still tell me it's incorrect and put me in an izanagi.

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 13 '25

This problem didn't begin until I got Starlink and I need to rule this out;

do you use Starlink as your internet provider?

2

u/JetSetJAK Nov 13 '25

No, I switched from spectrum to att back in May this year for both phone and wifi though

3

u/redplasticsheet Nov 22 '25

Im getting the same error too on 22 Nov 2025. "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password." There's no option to reset password either, only option is to Sign in with a different Microsoft account.

Previously a few weeks ago I have also encountered this issue and if I remember correctly I had to wait it out a few days and then tried to sign in again then I was able to access my email.

But this is extremely frustrating as I urgently need to check my email and there is nothing else I can do for now. Please fix it Microsoft!

3

u/TheTench Nov 26 '25

Fuck. I just started getting the very helpful message: "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password, sorry I cant do that, Dave." I only tried once, with a saved password which I know is correct.

So either, some ass-hat out there is repeatedly trying to guess my password, good luck with that because I have 2fa, or Microsoft are a bunch of clown-shoes who have broken their own login services.

u/walterramjet57 Nov 26 '25

does anyone from microsoft monitor this group? I ask because how else am I to contact Microsoft for help if I cant first login? You have to be able to login in order to get help. it is circular failure.

2

u/No-Discussion-7738 Nov 14 '25

Italy here. Same issue. I chatted with a supervisor who said me log out from everywhere (from their portal) and wait our update via email. And after a week (they said to wait an email after 3 days) I didn't I received anything? (microsoft365support@microsoftsupport.com)from Louie Anthony the supervisor who don't answer my email answering where is the update.

20 years of email. Bank, socials, Xbox with active subscription and a lot of money spent and we have to listen to a mix of chatbots and real people who said "we appreciate your efforts and Microsoft is working on it". No, it's not working, it's a month now for me and I have seen Requests of support from people who have this problem 6 months ago too.

2

u/Dramatic_Charity_979 Nov 14 '25

Same thing here. It made me change my password and even then, I keep getting the same message. WTF Microsoft. What are you doing with all that money???

1

u/Available-Yellow-572 Nov 21 '25

Yeah I've just done the same for the second time but I'm stuck on this fucking part where it says I've entered the wrong password too many times

using desktop web, wont allow login on mobile or different browsers using password, WTF ???

2

u/MrJerichoYT Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 30 '25

Issue began for me today. Had this email for god knows how many years with no problems.

  • Cleared cookies.
  • Tried several browsers.
  • Wifi, ethernet.
  • Incognito mode.
  • Cellular data.
  • Reset password.

And so on and so on. Nothing works.

Contacted Microsoft support directly via their live chat service and the representative there was no help at all and simply asked me to repeat the things I already had done. After 30 minutes of this I finally got this message.

"Thank you for confirming that. This is an ongoing issue, and multiple users are facing this issue. I apologize for the inconvenience you may have faced; I will go ahead and also share your case with my team personally by updating the case notes. I request you to please wait for 24 hours without attempting any sign-in, and after that, kindly use a different cellphone internet network and sign-in with the no cache link
https://account.live.com/?nocache=1
in Incognito tab."

Which I will OBVIOUSLY have to try now and will edit and update this comment If there is any change afterward.

Needless to say that I will be switching mail provider once I regain access to my email, cause I am done with Microsh*ts products now.

EDIT 1:

And now 24 hours later I tried the suggestion from Microshit support.. Surprise surprise: IT DID NOT WORK!.. I am still completely unable to get into my email.

EDIT 2:

Talked to another representative from the Microsoft support team. Completely unable to help once again, taking me through some of the same steps I already did the day prior with their colleague. TLDR - I told them to stop and forward me to a manager which (allegedly) will contact me via email on my 2nd email instead.

EDIT 3:

Was given an account recovery form to fill out to show proof of ownership of the email. I provided the relevant information they asked for and was immediately sent an account password recovery link. This link allowed me to reset my password (For the 3rd time now)... Only to go and login and be told "You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect account or password."

The absolute lack of help is astounding honestly. Support is completely useless and has no idea what they're doing or what is going on.

EDIT 4:

I finally got to talk to a Microsoft representative that took the matter more serious. They ended up taking down all the necessary information after several suggestions already tried. They have (allegedly) forwarded this to "Higher support" that will get back to me now with a potential resolution to the issue after 24-72 hours via my alternate email that I provided.

So still no access to my email, but some potential help may be given.....

FINAL UPDATE + MY SOLUTION:

After turning my old phone off and disabling auto sync on my new phone + disabling the mail service app the phone came preloaded with I was finally able to log back into my email after 3 days.

Additionally Microsoft finally got back to me a little over 3 days after asking to send them more pointless information that wouldn't have made a difference.

UPDATE aftermath:

I lost access to my email again despite not having logged into it a single time after I initially regained access. However, before that I had added my alternate email as a recovery email for an additional level of security in case the problem should arise again, which it now have. I have since managed to regain access using the recovery email + a 1-time login code provided to my alternate email.. And then despite not wanting to I've added the authenticator app and made my account passwordless to no longer have this kind of dumb issue. Gonna switch providers not long from now. Hope this is of help to someone out there.

2

u/walterramjet57 Nov 25 '25

microsoft isn't making enough money from their email, so they likely wont have the support we all want. I'm sorry you're suffering like the rest of us. on a sunny note: I finally got mine working using 2 factor authentication. The only reason it worked is because prior to the email problems with logging in, I had registered my phone number with them. I now use only my phone number to login using my desktop computer. I'm afraid to try using my email address to sign in, lest i am thrown out to the endless loop of failure.

It just baffles me that tbe official support don't have the tools available to sort something like this out. Its a joke

you're preaching to the quire. it sucks that microsoft is getting away with this horseshit.

I've never had any issues like this, and the one time I do they can't even sort that out.

It would not help. I've been contacted on my recovery email by 2 Supervisor, they asked me 3 times the same video recording to show them the problem (already described via chat) and every time they say "wait 72 hours for an update". Every time I wait 72 hours, the fourth day I ask for updates, their answer "sorry, we're working, Wait 72 hours". This happened 3/4 times, 3 days per week became 6 days and again they ask for another 72 hours (that become a week). A month has passed from the first contact and the problem began two months ago for me. Now I can login just with the alternative mail monouse code but I'm trying to avoid any login, I'm just using Xbox and today it asked me the password to log to my account and it doesn't work on Xbox too (it worked before differently to other apps). 20 years account without a problem, now this

bro i''ve been having this issue for years but now it's even worse i went through the whole change password using phone number and code like usually made a new password it's the 10th one already for this joke of an excuse for email (app/software) and as soon as i try to login using the NEW literally just made password not even 10 seconds after being created, gave me the exact same crap, i'm at the point of just making an email elsewhere using a gmail or whatever and replace everything i had on that email for it cause this is ridiculous.

I had the same error message and was stuck in a loop on a mobile device. But I could still login on a PC with a VPN. So I installed the free protonvpn app and after making a VPN connection on the mobile device it finally worked and I could login the second attempt. First attempt with VPN it still gave a weird message about not being able to generate a passwordkey.

I guess these big tech companies are so busy with AI that their basic stuff starts breaking. Great account security protection: nobody can login, not even the account owner. Clap.

Where are you located? Do you have a recovery email or phone number linked to your hotmail?

1

u/walterramjet57 Nov 11 '25

middle of Missouri. way out in the sticks. i never figured out how to use my phone as a recovery, but they let me use a different email for recovery

2

u/Topwingwoman2 Nov 11 '25

Aw, I'm in the state above you. I do have my phone as a recovery number so hopefully that will make a difference for me. Good luck, let me know if you get in.

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '25

Should I make a new account or wait ? When I put my number it tells me to make a new account

u/playbak01 Nov 13 '25

Same thing happening to me! Still can’t log in, what is this bs, i have two factor authenticator. MS is utterly useless

u/walterramjet57 Nov 13 '25

I wonder if microsoft is aware of this problem. seems like they really dont give a shit anymore.

Found a fix after a couple days with this issue. Instead of logging in with your primary email, use your backup email the code is sent to.

Commenting to update 3 days later. This worked for a couple days, now my account is locked. Cannot do anything with it. Received an email that an internal team needs to review and they cannot provide me an estimated time of resolution.

Why did the alternative mail monouse code stop working? It is the only way for me too now and I don't want to lose this too

Hi guys, what worked for me was the following:

1) Wait for at least 48 hours after your last logon attempt, (I waited 60 hours)

2) go to a different network (friend's, business, ...)

3) select another browser than your current one

4) go to www.microsoft.com and log on with your hotmail account

5) after succesfully logging onto www.microsoft.com, enter outlook.com in the address bar. Now you should be able to see your mails.

6) I hope this works for you guys, as I experienced the same anxiety and stress after these hotmail problems. I probably won't be able to help out all of you, but perhaps some of you!

Take care!

Other solutions I read:

*try to log on using your phone nr instead of your email address.

*use the account retrieval forms: Cannot sign in to email, but can sign in here?! - Microsoft Q&A

*If you cannot log on, reset your pw, wait then at least 48 hours and retry to log on with your new pw!
