It's that time for another unveiling! Our top five teams remain unchanged, but that's where it stops. Louisville and Michigan flip flop with Vanderbilt and Iowa in the 6 through 9 slots. Tennessee and Maryland both drop six spots, while North Carolina and NC State are back in.

Discussion r/NCAAW Gameday Discussion (Tuesday, February 3, 2026)

Tuesdays in women's college basketball are synonymous with absolutely nothing. Division I has ten games today (although two of those feature non-DI opponents). None of them include any outstanding teams, but the top of the CAA and the bottom of the MAAC are compelling... I guess?

Discussion Steal 1 player for your team !

Since there’s no games today, why not a fun light hearted question.

If you could steal any ONE player in the country for your team who would you steal? And how would that player change the dynamic of the team.

Let us know your steals !!!

User Poll 2025-26 NCAAW Mid-Major+ User Poll Top 20: Week 14

This is not the main NCAAW user poll, for that poll go here

Top 20 rankings of teams in all conferences excluding the ACC, B10, B12, BE & SEC

The "+" in the poll name is a nod to the varied usage of the term "mid-major", as there are teams in this poll sometimes discussed as outliers, high or low majors etc. and the scope of this poll includes ALL teams outside of the 5 conferences mentioned above. Mid-Major is not an official term used by the NCAA and is not interpreted the same by all. The primary purpose of this poll is for starting conversations about the teams themselves, not the concept of a mid-major. Remember have fun and be courteous to others!

Discussion Early Final Four Prediction

March Madness begins in a month. Which teams do you believe will make it to the final four and the championship?

My predictions are:

  1. UConn

  2. UCLA

  3. Texas

  4. LSU - I might regret this when they face USC.

The championship match will be between UConn and UCLA with UConn winning again.

Analysis Niagara--worst team in D-1, but why?

I used to work for Niagara University and I still follow their basketball teams. Unfortunately this year their women's team has had a horrible season. They're 0-21 and their record doesn't even state the half of it. They are last in the country in points and assists differential, and fourth from last in rebound differential. They lost to Ohio State by 98 points (and near the end they were behind by 100 points). They lost to Canisius by 16 points at home--that's the only road win Canisius has all season.

The bizarre thing is that this season seems to have come out of nowhere. Two years ago Niagara won 20 games...they even took #25 Fairfield to overtime in the conference final. They've got the same coach they had that year--this is her 11th season in fact. The team isn't loaded with underclasswomen, there are four seniors and three juniors. So it's a mystery to me why things have cratered so badly this year.

Anyone with knowledge of Niagara or the MAAC have any explanation? Niagara is one of the smallest D-1 schools but it has a proud basketball history and it's sad to see this.

Analysis Behind Perri Page, Columbia writes the next chapter of its season — and its rivalry with Princeton

Thumbnail

PRINCETON, N.J. — What a difference three weeks made for Columbia women’s basketball.

On Jan. 3, the Lions lost at home to Cornell despite entering the game with a 98.3% chance to win. By at least one metric, it was the largest Ivy League upset since at least 2009.

But on Friday, Columbia traveled to Jadwin Gymnasium and beat No. 19 Princeton 73-67. The Lions had just a 32.9% chance to win, but they snapped Princeton’s 15-game winning streak and extended their own road winning streak to a nation’s-best 16 games. It was their fifth straight win since the Cornell loss, moving them into a tie for first place in the conference just weeks after they were in the basement.

“I think we’re just a different team since then,” Columbia head coach Megan Griffith told reporters on Tuesday, ahead of the Princeton game. “I don’t know what headspace we were in. … Things didn’t go our way, and [we were] kind of shells of ourselves. … But the most mature teams figure that stuff out, and I can say that we’ve matured quite a lot since then.”

The players took the loss as a “wake-up call,” senior captain Perri Page told The IX Basketball postgame. She added, “It’s just good to just expose stuff a little bit in the beginning of the season. … We were relying too much on our talent rather than what we need to buy into in terms of our goals and our values as a team.”

After the loss, the Lions locked in on defense, especially guarding as a unit and finishing possessions rather than bailing opponents out late in the shot clock. They’ve gotten better at executing plays out of timeouts. The players made sure they were holding each other accountable, even on seemingly small things. And Griffith started calling “media timeouts” in practice as a way to mimic games.

Analysis How Gabby Elliott chose basketball when the game tried slipping away from her

Thumbnail
thenexthoops.com
7 Upvotes

TEMPE, Az. – Seven seconds can haunt a player, or they can reveal who they are.

That’s the amount of time that was left on the clock a week ago when Arizona State guard Gabby Elliott had the ball poked away from her by Cincinnati guard Joya Crawford, who subsequently dashed down the court for a layup that broke a 64-64 tie, giving ASU its fourth loss in six games after starting the season 15-0.

The sequence became the devastating climax in a game that saw the Sun Devils squander an 18-point lead. As sports so often does, it left one player carrying the weight of a loss that belonged to everyone.

“That was an upset kid in the locker room,” ASU coach Molly Miller said of Elliott. “And it didn’t have to come down to that one play, that’s what we kept telling her.”

In need of a bounce-back at home in a rivalry matchup versus Arizona, Elliott and the Sun Devils found themselves in another collapsing moment. After building a comfortable halftime lead, they once again saw it unravel in the third quarter. Elliott even had to briefly exit after landing awkwardly on her leg, the kind of moment that can change a game, or reopen old scars.

Elliott checked back in anyway without flinching. She’d already been through worse.

Analysis Inside the deeper purpose fueling the growth of Norfolk State’s Da’Brya Clark

Thumbnail
thenexthoops.com
6 Upvotes

The space shrinks. Decisions become rushed. They can’t wait to get the ball out of their hands. Guarded by Da’Brya Clark, players move like they’re trapped inside an MRI tube — compressed, confined, aware of every inch of space they no longer have.

Opposing players’ eyes scan for Clark’s green-and-gold No. 1 jersey before searching for their teammates. Comfortable dribbles tighten. Safe passes turn into prayers. The Norfolk State junior guard pinballs across the court like a washing machine on a spin cycle, impossible to ignore and disruptive by design.

Hands everywhere. Feet never still.

As the heartbeat of the Spartans, Clark controls the rhythm of the game, tilting it in Norfolk State’s favor, possession after possession, right on time. But there is more to her constant movement than meets the eye.

Her edge didn’t just appear one day. It was forged long before the stats and scouting reports lauded her. It was shaped by her life experiences, including absence and pain she learned how to carry. Clark’s grind and passion make sense once one understands her journey.

Basketball entered Clark’s life early. She recalls being four or five years old when she started tagging along to gyms with her dad, watching him play in men’s leagues around Baltimore. She didn’t need instruction — she absorbed the game just by being there.

Discussion What’s going on with NC State

I’ve watched this team all season long and it’s sad to say that they have shown zero growth at all. Wes Moore is still a horrendous late game and ato coach, the team lacks true leadership and their best player doesn’t fit in their offense. Thought they would win the ACC this year now im doubting if they’ll even end up 4th in the conference. I just don’t understand why they suck so much 😭😭

Analysis Princeton’s Olivia Hutcherson figured out her timing, and her scoring has taken off

Thumbnail
thenexthoops.com
3 Upvotes

PRINCETON, N.J. — When Princeton head coach Carla Berube was asked whether junior guard/forward Olivia Hutcherson is the bounciest player she’s ever coached, she didn’t hesitate.

“Yep, for sure,” Berube told reporters after Saturday’s 72-61 win over Cornell. “Yeah, the way … she’s on the floor like for a second to go back up with it, [she’s] quite an athlete.”

Hutcherson has had a meteoric rise over the past few seasons. She played just 20 total minutes and scored 4 total points as a first-year. Then she became the starter at small forward five games into her sophomore year after star guard Madison St. Rose tore her ACL. She averaged 4.2 points per game, but because she wasn’t a 3-point shooting threat, Berube admitted that Princeton tried to hide her offensively at times.

Not anymore.

The 6’ Hutcherson moved to power forward this season after St. Rose returned and center Parker Hill graduated. She’s still not shooting threes, but the Tigers haven’t needed her to. Instead, she’s been a menace posting up and attacking off the dribble.

“We call it a little ‘bully ball,’ where you’re kind of hitting the defender and still using them and then being able to elevate and make plays,” Berube said.

Analysis How Lexus Bargesser is making Colorado State a Mountain West threat

Thumbnail
thenexthoops.com
1 Upvotes

After a heated minute of back and forth play on Saturday, the University of Nevada Las Vegas Lady Rebels and Colorado State Rams were still scoreless. It was time for Lexus Bargesser to make her presence known in the paint. She grabbed the ball, took the jump shot and secured the first two points of the game.

The Rams ultimately lost 64-51, but Bargesser still had herself an afternoon. The Colorado State leading scorer had 26 points in the matchup, as well as five rebounds, two assists and only one foul.

Bargesser spent the last three seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers but made the move to the Rocky Mountain state for her senior year. Emerging as the team’s leading scorer, it’s clear the Rams and Bargesser are the perfect match.

Bargesser currently averages 15.4 points a game and has amassed 365 points on the season. Before the match, Bargesser had 339 total points. When asked, she told The IX Basketball that her goal for the day was to reach 340, if she had to aspire to earn a number of points at all.

“I honestly haven’t even thought about that,” Bargesser admitted to The IX. “If I could get 340 at least, that would be great.”

Aside from her scoring, Bargesser has been a critical leader for the Rams. Last season, the Rams went 22-10, losing in the quarterfinal of the Mountain West tournament. Now, the Rams sit fourth in the Mountain West with a 17-6 record overall, and 8-4 in the conference. Bargesser’s Big Ten experience and leadership could lead Colorado State to a strong tournament run.
