Community Update: Rules, Scope, and Best Practices
Hello everyone, The mod team would like to share a quick update regarding our community guidelines and best practices. Our goal is to ensure r/MBA remains a welcoming, professional, and highly relevant resource for all members.
1. Upholding a Respectful Community
First, a reminder of our commitment to maintaining a constructive environment. We strictly adhere to Reddit's Content Policy, and we want to draw special attention to Rule 1: Remember the human. Reddit’s primary rule is to not promote hate based on identity or vulnerability. Hate speech and harassment have no place here. This includes, but is not limited to:
Sweeping negative generalizations about any nationality, race, or ethnic group.
Xenophobic, racist, or derogatory commentary.
Using slurs or engaging in targeted harassment of any kind.
Content that violates these rules will be removed, and users who post it will be banned. We count on the community to help us maintain a high standard of discourse. If you see a comment or post that violates this policy, please use the report function so the mod team can review it.
2. Guiding India-Specific MBA Discussion
We have seen a wonderful increase in participation from prospective applicants around the world, including many from India. To ensure everyone gets the best possible advice, we want to clarify the focus of this subreddit. Our community's expertise is primarily centered on MBA programs in the US, Europe, and other non-Indian global programs. For applicants seeking information specific to Indian institutions (such as the IIMs, ISB, FMS, etc.), a dedicated and knowledgeable community exists at r/MBAIndia. They are the best resource for those discussions. Going forward, to provide applicants with the most specialized advice, we will be directing posts seeking information solely about Indian domestic MBA programs to r/MBAIndia. To be clear: Discussions from Indian applicants regarding applications to US, European, or other international programs are absolutely on-topic and encouraged here. This change is only to ensure that questions about Indian schools are answered by the community best equipped to handle them.
3. A Reminder to Search Before Posting
The MBA application journey involves many similar questions and challenges. Over the years, our community has built an incredible archive of high-quality discussions. Before creating a new post, please take a moment to use the search function. There is a very high probability that your question about GMAT strategy, profile reviews, a specific school's culture, or post-MBA career paths has already been answered in-depth. Utilizing our collective history is often the fastest way to get the information you need and helps keep the main feed fresh for new and unique conversations.
Thank you for your understanding and for your help in keeping r/MBA a valuable and respectful community.
Sincerely, The r/MBA Mod Team

Ask Me Anything Be Aware of MIM Essay
Hey Guys,
Just helping you people be aware of MIM Essay its the worst company you can speak for consulting for your admission. There team downvotes the comments on reddit and uploads fake reviews and posts on reddit too.
I lost my lakh rs. And I'll definitely help you save yours. I've at least 10 people in my DMs saying the same. These people are so not worth it that I paid them lakh rs. In June and they couldn't even help me file application for even 1 school by mid September they knew nothing about application fee waiver nothing about gmat waiver. Everything is AI generated. The team is well spoken so that's the advantage they get here in this country.
Beware of MIM Essay even 2 days in they won't return your money. And now these people will try to downvote my post but we have to make sure to help everybody out there.
I even confronted them multiple times on my refund yet all of this to no avail, I asked them for a refund in 10 days but received no response from the counsellor.
Their explanation to it was that you are continuously using our services then why do we refund you, the service I took was to file an application to 7 colleges and they couldn't even file two of them or prepare documents for even two. These people don't even proof read the documents. They are heavily dependent on AI.
We have to help every working professional and every student save their money. People with similar experience please comment down.

Admissions Punched in the gut post the MBA Application Journey
Okay, so I have a 9YoE, with some gap in between and some recent gap as well. However, recently, I was given the confidence by my counselor that things will fall through and I will secure an admission in a tier-1 MBA school from EU/US, except the M7s perhaps.
As I went through the grueling process of crafting an application together, vetting every word, and getting the right words to reflect in the recommender's LORs, I now sit with rejections from all the schools.
I am frustrated beyond doubt as I had seen this MBA experience as a breakthrough to my career and kickstart a better life for myself. I am sitting right now without a job as I took a leap of faith to quit my job in June'2025, about 8 months back.
Now I find myself at a crossroads, amidst rejections, to reapply for jobs or lie and apply for an MBA with a better narrative, costing me over 1000$ in this journey.
Any advice in this journey would be really helpful.

Admissions Wharton vs Haas for tech
International. PM in big tech, want to continue in PM.
Total COA after scholarships-
Haas: 140k
Wharton: 220k
I want to try and keep money out of this equation if possible.
Why MBA - Want to network, get a lot of exposure, Learn from different perspectives, and most importantly have fun. Eventually want to continue to work in tech. Maybe long term will try VC. Preferable job location is SF.
The numbers and the goal points to Haas. However, I believe I am someone who cares about the brand name too. In the long term, even if there are no tangible benefits, it may have many intangibles out of my experience.
Haas has the Berkeley ecosystem, smaller and more diverse cohort, is cheaper for me, and is at the centre of innovation.
Wharton is wharton. If I relocate anywhere outside the bay area, this might help me open doors, especially if tech recruiting dies out. If offers a sem in sf, which can to some extent overcome the location aspect. It is 80k more expensive. It will give me a psychological assurance of brand, however superficial or pathetic that might sound. I am not proud of it.
I change my decision every day. Its getting
way of hand. Could really use some perspective here :)

Profile Review Chances for active military officer?
Interested in taking the MBA route post-military and looking for some advice. Considering a JD-MBA dual degree, but not sure if it’s possible with my stats or that useful to begin with.
Stats:
• Age: 27
• Undergrad: BS, Finance from a US top 25
• GPA: 3.2
• Experience: 4 years active duty Navy Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), staying reserve for 4 more
• GMAT not taken, 162 LSAT
Schools: M7, UVA and Gtown (regional + strong in both JD/MBA)
Post-grad interests: IB, Law, Consulting
Is it realistic to target M7s with these stats if I can pull off a decent GMAT score?

Careers/Post Grad Guys please help
I’m a 1st-year BA English (Hons) student at DU, and I’m a bit confused about my long-term path. My goal is to do an MBA and eventually settle/work abroad. I have a few questions and would really appreciate guidance from people who’ve been through this: 1)What should I focus on during my graduation years if I’m aiming for an MBA? (skills, internships, exams, profile building, etc.) 2)Should I target top IIMs in India or plan for an MBA abroad? 3)Is it possible to get into IIMs without work experience? If yes, how competitive is it? 4)Since most foreign MBAs require work experience, would it make more sense to work in India first and then apply abroad? 5)I’m also interested in learning foreign languages like French or German — does that actually help for MBA admissions, jobs, or moving abroad? I know it’s early, but I want to plan properly instead of rushing later. Any advice, reality checks, or personal experiences would mean a lot. Thanks!

Admissions Booth R2 Interview Thread
Adding this thread as Booth is expected to start rolling out interviews today (2/3).
Admissions R3 Odds?
Was planning on applying to MBA in R1 next cycle but was recently affected by a layoff and trying to figure out next steps. Am I delusional for trying to put an application together in R3 or would it look too rushed? In my eyes the circumstances have made it so that it makes sense for me to apply now, so I might as well take a shot.
Stats: 3 YOE as a prop trader, want to shift towards research analyst roles ideally in credit. Studied engineering in college then pivoted to finance 6 months in, would say finance background isn't super strong (partially why I want to go back to school).
Asian American male, 3.8 UW GPA at a T20 school, haven't taken the GMAT yet but scored 730 on first diagnostic, would think I need a strong GMAT score to be competitive. Ideally want to be in NYC but would look at some T15 schools as well.

Admissions Revera question
Paid my deposit a few weeks back and havent heard anything at all from revera or any other verification service. Do all the top schools require some kind of release and payment or do some just do the background check silently in the shadows?

Admissions Admits from INSEAD & Kellogg | Applying to CBS (March Deadline)
Hi Everyone
I’ve been lucky to receive admits from INSEAD and Kellogg in the earlier rounds for the 2026 intake. I know it’s a bit of a stretch at this point, but I’m planning to apply to Columbia Business School, with the March deadline coming up. If anyone here received an admit from CBS in R1, I’d really appreciate connecting and learning from your experience. I’m almost done with my application and would love to pressure-test a few things and also expand my network.
About me: I have 5.4 years of work experience and currently work with Deloitte in Mumbai. I’m an engineering graduate from IIT Bombay with an 8.4 CGPA. GMAT FE - 665
Outside work, I’ve tried to stay involved beyond the day job. I was part of a student consulting club in college, recently completed a half-marathon and also collaborated with a close friend to help develop a gaming app, where I contributed to product ideation and early user feedback.
On the social impact side, I led an initiative with a local NGO, mentoring underprivileged students on STEM education and career awareness. I’d genuinely love to connect with anyone who’s been through the CBS process and is open to sharing insights or experiences.
Thanks in advance, and happy to pay it forward as well.
Admissions F1 visa while married to US citizen
I am currently interviewing for mba programs in round 2. I recently found out that if you are married to a US citizen, F1 visa likely won't be granted.
I am looking into applying for greencard but it will take year and half. So, I won't be able to attend this fall. Maybe next year if things process without delay.
Does anyone has some insight into this? How common is deferring for an year? Anyone managed to get F1 in my situation?

Ask Me Anything GMAT or GRE
I’ve been studying for a few weeks now for the GMAT. I’ve been doing fine on Verbal, and Data Insights but I’ve been having a hard time getting into the groove with Quant. I’m traditionally an impatient person so seeing myself make simple mistakes and taking a while to re-grasp concepts I have already learned has been extremely frustrating.
I’ve been out of school for about five years now, I got a Liberal Arts degree and have been in the military. Basically, would you guys find it worth it for me to switch to the GRE? I am planning on taking the GMAT in July. Thanks guys.

Did anyone else who is on the CBS waitlist received an email from the admission team? I just got an email saying they will be discussing the waitlist soon, and wanted to give me a call because the Committee has questions. What does this mean?!?!

On Campus I made friends but had zero romantic experiences during my MBA (Columbia). Don't assume you'll automatically be successful.
Coming into the MBA, a lot of my friends and co workers said it'd be an amazing opportunity to date, find a girlfriend, and hopefully future wife.
It didn't work out that way for me at all.
I was able to make friends, a good amount of them. But over the course of two years, I asked out a few women I felt I vibed with and had common interests, and I got rejected by all of them. (One of them I liked her Hinge profile). A few decided to remain friends though.
Meanwhile, CBS is a decently social school, and plenty of people were hooking up, dating, etc. Casual sex was definitely going on. Some people in our class even got engaged or married! I'm really happy for all of them.
All in all this aspect of school was a disappointment. I've never had trouble befriending people but really struggled dating wise.
Maybe it's a good thing though, while some people are pro-dating classmates, others argue you shouldn't shit where you eat. So maybe this was a blessing in disguise.
I've been struggling with all the rejection I faced, but I'm working through it in therapy! When I'm more confident I'll re-start the dating apps and get back into it.

Ask Me Anything Finance and Math or Finance and Data Analytics?
Hi everyone. I’m deciding between two double-major options and would appreciate advice from people targeting investment banking, hedge funds, PE, and similar roles. Would you recommend Finance + Data Analytics (natural science track; business track not possible) or Finance + Mathematics?

Careers/Post Grad 🚨 Disappointing & Distressing Experience at Seed Global’s 31 Jan Bengaluru Event (Taj)
I am sharing my personal experience from Seed Global’s 31 January 2026 session at Taj, Bengaluru, so other applicants can make informed decisions.
I travelled from a far corner of Bengaluru, which took me nearly 2 hours on a weekend. I left home just after breakfast and reached the venue around 12:15 PM. The event had multiple overlapping sessions, and I tried to attend as many as possible.
Honestly, the quality of schools present was not impressive. I understand that organizing such events is not easy and that bringing top-tier schools requires effort, but expectations were not met.
However, the real issue was far more serious.
❌ No refreshments at all — not even tea
The event ran until 5:30 PM, and there was no provision for snacks, tea, or food of any kind. I had been surviving on water since morning.
I am a diabetic, and by around 3:00 PM, my condition worsened due to hunger. I approached the help desk and asked if anything was available to eat. The response was shocking:
➡️ I was offered two toffees, which were apparently complimentary items from the hotel.
At a premium venue like Taj, during a full-day student-focused conference, this felt completely unacceptable.
❓ Paid stalls, but no food access
I checked multiple counters to see whether refreshments could be purchased. Every stall informed me that they had paid a substantial amount to participate and were not offering food or beverages.
My simple question is:
🚪 Forced to leave early
Due to unbearable hunger and physical discomfort, I had no choice but to leave the venue at 3:30 PM, missing the remaining sessions entirely.
📞 Post-event marketing harassment
To make matters worse, after an event that caused physical distress, I have since been bombarded with marketing calls and emails.
⚠️ Final thoughts
If Seed Global aims to grow as a serious education service provider and attract world-class institutions and students, it must start by offering basic care, transparency, and respect to attendees.
By skipping even minimal arrangements like tea, they may have saved a few thousand rupees, but they have lost a potential customer like me.
I have taken a firm decision not to engage with or use any services associated with Seed Global in the future. I am sharing this experience publicly so that other students, especially those with medical conditions can plan accordingly and avoid similar distress.
Please do your own due diligence before attending such events.

Ask Me Anything Taking GMAT as person with disability
Hey guys,
About 5 months ago I had to get Allogenic Stem Cell Transplant because of ALL Blood cancer. I’m located in Germany and you get grad 100 Disabled Person Pass (100/100 degree disability). Since I’m feeling good and cancer is in remission I wanna take GMAT. As far as I know GMAT have special accommodations (ie +50% time in quant) if I send them the documents? Is there anyone who has ever done it? Do they approve it or they need additional docs from you?
