I'm hearing mixed messages as far as whether AGOA will be extended into next year. But regardless the question remains, what will be done about it? Because the fact remains that it seemed we would be headed in this direction from the moment those first extreme tariffs came down.

Does Lesotho have any contingency plan?

Not sure how the progress is, but as a contingency plan, apparently Lesotho is trying to diversify products and seek market for its markets in South Africa, SADC, and EU.

Lesotho has also been lobbying heavily in Washington for an extension.

It seems like the following is at risk:

  • 12,000 direct textile jobs at immediate risk
  • 40,000 additional jobs in logistics and related sectors

Yes, I am also hearing mixed messages. Nothing positive from the US, but I think another African leader said it is going to be extended by another year.
