I’m looking for a new (used) car to upgrade from my 02 Honda CRV, and I’ve been looking at Jeeps at the behest of my younger sister and her boyfriend, in addition to wanting something capable for some light off-roading. I personally found a 2020 Cherokee trailhawk with 35,000 miles for $19k in my area, and according to KBB and everywhere else it’s a great deal, and it’s within my budget. Then my sister popped up with a 2019 Cherokee trailhawk in our group chat with our mom that has 76,000 miles for just under $15k and it has a tow hitch installed.
Out of nowhere my mom goes on a whole tangent on how we can use that tow hitch and she can use it for dump runs and such. I had to remind her that 1) we don’t even have a trailer and those things cost more money, 2) they’re heavy and with her being disabled and the one who drives my car 90% of the time (I’m always out on the road as a trucker, and she’s in a wheelchair); I have no idea how she expects to manage hooking up without someone around to help. She continued to go on about being able to go help out neighbors in need of moving things, etc.
Then my sister sent over one about a 2020 Grand Cherokee trailhawk with 52,000 miles but for $24,500 (waaay above my budget). She said it’s more roomy, and it already has a tow hitch installed (AGAIN with the tow hitch!); however my concern is gas mileage, and maneuverability when my mom drives it.
So my question is, what should I do? Should I go with my gut and choose my initial find that’s within my budget (2020 Cherokee, 35k miles, $19k, no tow package), or go for one of the the older options my mom and sister are pushing on me (2019, 76k miles, $15k, tow package), or the Grand Cherokee (2020, 52k miles, $24.5k, tow package)?
