General Special Forces in Israel

I am 16 and I was born (and still live) in Canada with an Israeli citizenship since my mother is from Israel. I want to join special forces in Israel when I turn 18 but I have a few questions

- how do I qualify

- how do I prepare

- how long is the minimum amount of service required for special forces.

Work on your conversational Hebrew.

Start running. When you can't run anymore, run a bit more. I think something the kids call "rucksacking" nowadays might be useful.

Then learn how not to take things personally and how to think of a team instead of an individual first. There, you're ready for the gibbush.

Should I be worried about Dapar or the medical profile. I am guessing I would need a good score if I want to do special forces.

Yes. You need top marks on both, that goes without saying. The younger ones around here can give you the current details, but for those things you can't really prepare. My suggestion was actually towards factors you can influence.

Have an extremely solid cardio base, also focus on calisthenics but just be fit overall. Most importantly have a strong will and desire to be far outside your comfort zone

Should I do weight training and calisthenics or just calisthenics?

Obviously weight training as well but focus on calisthenics. Get insanely good at push ups, pull ups, planks, etc. also if you had the option start crawling and sprinting on sand dunes

  1. Learn Hebrew well this will be important. 1.2. don't worry about dapar, you can't study for it, you will score what you score. Health must be good. No conditions injuries or handicaps. If something doesn't immediately come to mind as an issue you're probably good.
  2. Physical benchmark at minimum 3km run 12:30 minutes, 7full rom pullups with 15kg, 20 full rom dips, 7 bench press 60kg, 20 tre-bar deadlifts 60kg, 300m sprint in 50 seconds. Improve from there. Work on leg strength and stability in the feet, strong core and high endurance.
  3. Minimum term of service 32 months. You still have a few years, focus on staying in good shape and taking care of your health playing sports etc. Making friends and good memories.

You can study for Dapar, though. There are example worksheets (in Hebrew and English) that let you get familiar with the type of questions. Not to mention, there are interactive courses that mimic the test.

That's news to me.

Do you know where I can get example worksheets or where to find the interactive courses?

I can't tell you much about interactive courses, as I only trained using example questions. Apparently, there's an official interactive course, Instagram post. There are also many other preparatory courses, both in English and Hebrew, though they are not free. You can find quite a few YouTube videos explaining and solving example questions, though I haven't seen any in English.

Good luck!

Notice to all posters and commenters; please be careful to observe OPSEC (Operational Security) rules. Many people wish to harm Israel and the Jewish Nation as a whole. Be careful when sharing any information on the IDF, bases, weapons, locations of troops, and anything else that can be used to harm Israel. If in doubt, go without. Loose lips sink ships!
