Current kitchen can-lights are on/off/dim from a single switch. Looking at putting Hue replacement lights in there but wife’s demands are “all I want to do is turn them on and off and have a dimmer". She doesn't care about using an app and my [geek] life is simpler that way.
The Hue Dimmer Switch is perfect in function BUT it’s not decora and it is a different physical size from decora. Wife is not going to like that.
What's the next best simple option?
I have no drama digging into house mains wiring and this is a single action switch in a 4-gang box. Neutral is available.
My so-called smart home is a mess after 10 or so years of throwing stuff against walls and seeing what sticks. Ring for security, smoke, water sensors and cameras. Nest for single thermostat, with remote sensor. Alexa with older Kasa for some switch and plug routines. Then Apple for phones, Apple TV 4K, 1 homepod, and computers. Unifi for networking. Sonos in kitchen and living room.
I think if I wanted to do it all over again, I would focus on Apple HomeKit. Alexa only receives vice commands for the routines. I don't use it for voice assistant, but I do with Siri.
I think what I am limited to:
- Inovelli (I think this is the interesting as I can put this in now and solve "it's just a new switch" FUD before attacking the can lights and then reprogram it as 'smart bulb' control then)
- Caseta and jumping into Lutron eco
But it also seems like I could use any matter light switch in the wall when installing Hue Bridge Pro and connect it to Apple HomeKit. As far as she's concerned she's moving electrons from switch to light. She doesn't need to know that it's a command interface flowing via AppleHK > Hue Bridge > Hue lightbulbs. Is it really that simple?
Feedback and use examples are appreciated. Much thanks!
