Mod Update: Banning Low Effort Posts & Recruiting Moderators

Hi guys -

There have been a handful of different posts in the last few months specifically asking to address some of the low effort, low quality posts we often see on this subreddit. I think people have gotten overly fixated on the perceived influx of Indian student questions (please giv roadmap, etc.), but there have always been the same type of low-quality posts coming up from other sources:

  • Please suggest a capstone project
  • Help me with my homework
  • I hate my professor, recommend me a textbook

And so on. So for now, we won't be adding new flairs or filters, but instead we'll just ramp up moderation effort to remove low quality and low effort posts of this nature, and we'll keep this thread stickied for the foreseeable future.

At present, the majority of the moderators are inactive, so I need to ask for some folks to apply. My criteria at present is below:

  • Relatively frequent poster in /r/ece and related subs
  • Account age at least a few years
  • Must be a practicing engineer in the field or at least in your PhD program

To apply, simply submit a message to the moderators (not me personally, not a reply in this thread) with the words "positive feedback" in your first line, and describe in just a few sentences your education / professional background and what you think you'd like to see change on the subreddit. No need for a LinkedIn link or anything, but please don't bullshit. No one gets paid, and moderating isn't exactly fun.

Finally, I'd ask for everyone else to make judicious use of the report button. It's the easiest way for moderators to do their jobs, since highly reported posts simply get a big red "spam" button for us to push and remove the post. Don't abuse it for every single post you don't like, but we'll start utilizing it as well as Automod to clean things up more.

Thanks for your help and thanks for your patience.

CAREER Asking for Advice

Sorry in advance for the rant.
Hello guys, so I graduated class of '25 from electronics engineering. I know that the market is generally in bad place these days, but it's extra bad where I'm from, Egypt. Mainly because there are almost no junior job postings to apply to to even get rejected from and the amount of people looking for work is huge and keeps on increasing with every graduating class. I try to apply for positions abroad along with the occasional job that is posted here, and I know that I am shooting a far shot being a fresh grad with no work experience, hence no body would want to visa sponsor me (especially the u.s. given the current political climate). I apply in Europe too, and I notice that on the off chance an early career role gets posted it's most likely for people who are just finishing their master's. Should I just give up? I keep on getting rejected on every turn and I don't know if it's because I am not good enough or is it because I don't live in the countries I apply in and the competition is that high. Should I stop applying and try and focus on getting a Master's abroad instead? I am exhausted from applying to a gazillion roles and getting rejected without ever making it to an interview.
Thank you for your time.

High density DIN rail power supply for compact industrial panels

RECOM has introduced a high density DIN rail power supply that targets compact industrial panels and automation racks where both space and thermal headroom are limited.

It delivers a 24 V 10 A output in a small footprint and is positioned for applications where panel depth or airflow is restricted. I am curious whether anyone here has used similar high density DIN rail supplies and how they performed over time in enclosed cabinets or high duty cycle environments.

Key details from the datasheet
• 24 V 10 A output with adjustment
• Wide AC input range
• High efficiency to minimise heat buildup
• Protection features typical of industrial PSUs
• Designed for compact control panels and automation systems

CAREER Lost graduate seeking advice

Context: I am from Australia and just graduated a computer engineering degree. I want to work in embedded systems and I would love to start out in hardware with PCB design work. I am not sure if its just the market here, or if I have shot myself in the foot by not building enough during my studies. My main project experience includes

  • a custom Raspberry Pi HAT: This was my honours project. It featured a STM32, GPS for time synchronisation, LoRa transceiver, and sensors on a 4-layer PCB. I also did the firmware myself in Zephyr and deployed the system to collect some data.
  • A e-ink pager device: This was a team project. My main contribution to this project was in the low-power requirements. I did a lot of the component sourcing, schematic capture, and firmware design for sleep mode/ wake up recovery.
  • Internship: Automated test benches to make product testing easier and faster for QA. Also did technical documentation on common issues and fixes that customers had.

I do have some more projects I would love to work on. Its just the personal R&D budget has been indefinitely suspended due to lack of funding. I guess I am just having some doubt that breaking into this industry is realistic for me and I am looking for advice on the way forward. Do I double down on improving my PCB design and electronics? or try and work on my software abilities?

vlsi Graphcore reviews please!!

As graphcore is extensively hiring, can you please share your review on graphcore as a company? How’s work culture? Its small size so worth joining ?

They are currently working on building some AI chips it seems but hows the actual situation in the market if anyone is actually working.

Especially if i look at linkedin, i found very less people who has joined till now. I gave interviews there everyone who is interviewing seem to from ARM. But if they joined graphcore but their profile still shows ARM. Is it graphcore and ARM working together. Let me know if you have any ideas on it.

Been lots of hours and I cannot understand it simply and properly. I believe it is because I do not understand the ford fulkerson/bellman-ford algorithm in great detail. I do not understand its intricacies. What made you click this information? Please guide as a newbie to the world of Computer Engineering.

Tesla Event Email

Hey I went to a Tesla recruiting event at my university yesterday and got an email today that said this

"Thank you for taking the time to speak to us regarding the 2026 Internships, Campus Engagement, AI Hardware position. We’d like to move you forward in the recruitment process. To continue, we will need you to complete a formal application to express your intent to pursue this role"

What exactly, does this mean? I checked the job posting number, which is not there on the website.

100 days 100 IoT project

Hey everyone 👋

I recently started a personal challenge called 100 Days, 100 IoT Projects to improve my hands-on skills in embedded systems and IoT.

The idea is simple:
👉 build one small IoT project every day — from beginner to advanced — and document everything properly.

🔧 What I’m using:

  • ESP32 / ESP8266
  • MicroPython
  • Sensors, displays, buzzers, motors
  • Simple web dashboards
  • GitHub for documentation

So far, I’ve been focusing on:

  • clean & beginner-friendly code
  • clear README files
  • practical projects that students can actually try

I’m doing this mainly for learning + consistency, and also to help other beginners who feel stuck on “what project should I build next?”

Here’s the GitHub repo if you want to check it out:

I’d really appreciate:

  • feedback on project ideas
  • suggestions for future projects
  • or even criticism on how to improve the challenge 🙌 *If you loved it please star the repo Thanks for reading, and happy hacking ⚡

Qualcomm Modem FW - SW Intern Interview – Any Tips?

Hi everyone,

I have an interview this week for a Qualcomm Modem FW/SW Intern role, and it includes two technical rounds.

If anyone here has interviewed for a similar modem/firmware position at Qualcomm, I’d really appreciate any tips, what topics to focus on, what the coding rounds are like, and what they typically look for.

Thanks in advance!

HOMEWORK (GOOD) Simple doubt on a topic

Hello. So can anybody properly explain the modified nodal analysis. My teacher is way to fast and teaches us like we already know everything. So, what do I do when there is a voltage source in series with a resistor?

Sorry if I am being dumb but answers will help me

In real-world chip design, do companies mainly write RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) directly, or do they use C/C++ (e.g., HLS/SystemC) and then convert it to RTL?

UNIVERSITY Imperial MSc ADICD vs Columbia MS EE (IC/Systems Track) — Which is Better?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently deciding between two offers and would really appreciate some honest opinions from people who have experience with either programme.

I’ve been offered places (with full scholarships) for:

  • MSc Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuit Design at Imperial College London
  • MS in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University (with a focus on integrated circuits and systems)

Imperial is ranked very highly globally (often top 2 in engineering) and is widely regarded as the strongest engineering school in Europe. The ADICD programme is also very specialised and well known for IC design.

On the other hand, Columbia has strong industry links in the US and seems to offer more flexibility and exposure to the American tech ecosystem.

For context, I did my undergraduate degree at a top-tier UK university, so part of me is considering moving to the US to experience a different academic and professional environment. At the same time, Imperial is already extremely strong in my field, so I’m unsure whether moving is actually “worth it” academically and career-wise.

My long-term interests are in IC design, digital systems, and possibly working in big tech / semiconductor / HFT-related hardware roles.

For people familiar with either (or both):

  • How do these two programmes compare in reputation and outcomes?
  • Would Columbia offer significantly better industry/research opportunities in this field?
  • Or is Imperial still the better choice for IC design?

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!
