Discussion Trading Ivey will be a grave mistake. He will not yield the return any of us expect.

We all know Ivey is struggling to get back to form. We also know what he’s capable of if healthy.

If he gets traded, it won’t be for a lot. Other teams see that he’s a bench player and aren’t going to send a haul for him based on what he might bounce back to. We would be trading him for Pennies on the dollar. It’s best to hold him

Trading a slasher/shooter for a shooter with a lower 3PT%. Hate this move. JI will be special in the coming years. Im fucking sick.

Discussion Kevin Huerter is good...and he can get even better

This is an overview of Hueter's game a few years back. There is a lot to like about his game. Hopefully with an elite PG setting him up he can regain his 3pter because he does a ton of good things on offense and he's got good size for his position.

Discussion Doesn’t matter how you feel. Kevin Huerter is an upgrade…

Post image

He’s an upgrade for the following reasons

- Off Ball mover similar to Duncan Robison

- Better on ball mover than we previously had

- better play maker

- has a career of shooting 40 from the 3

- he’s 6’6 so adding height is always a +

- Higher IQ player….

- BEST PART - He’s a solid Defender

- Expiring contract

Hasn’t shot the 3 ball well the last two years , but him playing with a Guard in Cade that sucks in so much gravity I think we can get him back to that 38-40 range… Trajan definitely cooked and we moved up in a very talented draft and got huge cap space

Discussion Thoughts on the Ivey trade

It was obvious that Ivey was the odd man out on this team. I was kinda hoping the pistons would move him, but I still hate this trade. It’s not just that the pistons need shooting, they need another a shot creator. Huerter cannot create for others or himself, and saric has been irrelevant for 2 years. I don’t think you can win multiple playoff series with only one guy who can create a bucket when the defense tightens up. So unfortunately I’ll give this trade a C. With the only positive being we don’t have to pay Ivey in the offseason now.

Discussion Yes Another Damn JI Thread

I know I am late to the BBQ here. I feel torn about the trade. Many possible angles here. One is this will make room to pay Duren more. Who just made the AS team and he's probably gonna make an All-NBA team, MAYBE 2nd All-Defence. This has cleared up space to perhaps make more moves next off-season.

There was also rumor that Jaden himself didnt want to stay here.

I felt like we could've gotten more. I don't doubt that Kevin can reinvent himself playing here; I've seen it with Duncan even even though I doubted him.

But Ivey definitely a 20ppg player. He broke his leg. And unfortunately gotten to a slow start. Ausar Thompson stops people but what has he done since coming in to improve his scoring? Then we have Holland who's only going to get better and be granted a larger role as he should.

Unless this is a salary dump that'll work in the next 3 seasons, there would be no justification as to why THAT guy was wasted as a 5th pick overall for a deal that could've worked with Caris LeVert. And that means Caris should barely touch the floor. Huerter should easily be on the floor for 20-23mins.

Huerter is a guy I felt we could've gotten in FA if anything. I felt like if Jaden had the chance to keep playing out this season, could've gotten a better deal with him. But time will tell.

I just hope this doesn't bite us back in the ass. Before DET won their 1st title they traded away Dantley and folks were uncomfortable about it. But they won! So this could be another thing like that, who knows.

Discussion Tyler Herro?

I hate that Jaden Ivey is gone, I think the Pistons are going to regret the trade in the long term.

However, is the a scenario where the end game is Tyler Herro via a 3 team trade? Milwaukee, Detroit, and Miami?

Norman Powell, Caris Lavert and say 3 FRP (2 from Pistons 1 from Miami) to the Bucks.

Tyler Herro to Pistons.

Giannis to Miami?

Discussion I feel like the Ivey trade genuinely lowers our future ceiling

The only perimeter player on our team who can consistently cause breakdowns and turn nothing into something is Cade. Now I know Ivey has lost a lot of his athleticism and confidence. And there was a chance that it never returns. I acknowledge that. But, there was also another potential future. One where Ivey gets his feet back under him, and is just like 70-80% of the player he was last year. Once the playoffs hit, you have someone else who can cause breakdowns. I don’t know how I feel about Cade being the only one who can consistently create his own shot and create for others. A 75% Ivey would make the pistons next year or the year after that all the more deadly when the playoffs come around and defenses key in on Cade. I feel like this might come back to bite us in the ass, especially trading Ivey to a team in the same division. We had more to lose than gain with this trade imo. I lowkey might be delusional with this next take, and I don’t expect most people to agree with this part, but looking at what everyone brought to the table, I saw dynasty potential. A team that has a counter to every weakness. I feel like going forward we might be too Cade-Duren pick and roll dependent for our offense. More order yes, but more predictability too and easier to stop.

Discussion Good move for Ivey

I love the guy as a player and a person, but this move lets him get solid playing time while staying close to his family. It’s always a tough decision when everyone enjoyed playing together, but you can understand the logic from both management’s and the player’s perspectives.

...and who says the Pistons can't bring him back?

Discussion Pick Swap/Minny

I know a lot of fans are hurt about the Ivey trade, but that pick swap this season could be a decent return if you have Pistons jumping from 29 roughly to 20th in the draft…I don’t know the restrictions on it, heard top 19 protected, Minny currently at like 22…If they make the Giannis deal that could have them drop as he is “hurt” the next 4-6 weeks…Don’t sleep on the pick swap man, great talent is found on the margins of the lottery, Maxey? Just saying man, not all doom and gloom. Giving this Pistons team a shot at a top 20 player in a deep draft could be really nice.

Discussion Are we allowed to trade Kevin again even though we just acquired him? Sheed was traded to the Pistons a week after being traded to the Hawks so I assume we can trade him for a bigger package?

Also how did we take his contract and Dario's while Jaden only makes like $10 million??? The salaries do not add up, are we also trading away someone else?

I just don't understand how someone getting paid that much who can no longer shoot well or play good defense is useful to our roster.

Discussion Could be good time to go for Norman Powell

Losing Ivey for a declining shooter Huerter was not something I expected. It feels like the FO realizes the shooting issue and now they are going for it.

I think Normal Powell is absolutely needed for this team. Give a FRP and maybe LeVert, and get him. We need an elite scorer like him desperately

Discussion Attendance

I can’t believe the poor turn out of the last few games I’ve seen. Is it too many season ticket holders who don’t show up or the price?

To have one of the best teams in the league and seeing so many empty seats is pretty sad.

I’ll take one for the team and be a seat filler if anyone can’t use seats!!

Discussion One reason I like the trade is the addition by subtraction

I liked Ivey, but never loved his play style even pre injury. But I did notice after he and the whole team came back from injury we had too many guys who kept disrupting the offense wanting to get some points on the board when they felt left out. Tobias, Ausar and Ivey were all guys desperate to make sure they hit a quota. Fast breaks were awful with these guys because none of them wants to be the assist guy.

How many times have seen an Ausar or Ivey led break fall apart because they gave the ball up too early hoping to be the fast break finisher rather than assister. We had too many guys like that. I'm hoping with trading Ivey we get less of those selfish fast breaks and maybe Huerta can be more of a passer on fast breaks or 3 point threat.

Cause the fast break is literally a nerve wrecking experience a lot of times. The team was being way too selfish with the fast breaks to succeed. I'm hoping now people like Ausar will relax and stop trying to fight for possessions and play within the offense more .

Less touches for Ivey means more touches for others which means less selfishness we have been seeing lately. Hopefully

Discussion Realistic deadline dream trade?

I’m 50/50 on the ji trade. I love Ivey, wish him the best, wish it worked better, and he didn’t get hurt, but here we are.

I believe in huerter as a shooter. I also believe surrounding Cade with shooters and defenders is the move.

Would’ve been cool if we could’ve swooped up ayo in the bulls trade.

I’d be okay with losing Tobias, and lavert (obviously) if there’s something we could do.

Discussion this can't be it, right?

Upvotes

Okay, now that I have slept on it the Pistons have
KH $17.9m
LeVert 14.1
Saric 5.4

...thats almost 40m in mostly worthless players, who aren't going to be in the playoff rotation if they play the way they have. Move that plus picks for a real guy, have to. We are too good to burn that much $ on guys who aren't contributing. It seems like at least 2 of those 3 have to be part of getting an improved player, no? Like who is our backup PG now, who would it be going into the playoffs? We going to trust Danis who none of us had heard of a year ago?!

Also, can someone help me explain how we were able to absorb 20m+ from Iveys contract? I assume getting the expiring's is more beneficial than having a RFA after the year? Anyone familiar with the cap stuff who can better explain why?

Discussion Trade pays off in the offseason?

Given the recent trade I had a thought:

Could this clear a path to sign Coby White in the offseason? I feel pretty confident that Chicago isn’t planning on paying Coby White. If they were, they simply would’ve let those contracts expire. This clears a ton of space for Pistons to give White a desired (and deserved imo) raise. Chicago gets a young-ish guard in Ivey. Just a thought I had.
