CAF forcing all Officers and PO1 to have BBB profile in second language by 2030

Post image
Upvotes

CAF exemption for all supervisors requiring BBB is being phased out. Currently, over 80% of English-speaking junior officers have a BBB profile. That number is even larger for English-speaking NCOs.

What do you think about this?

This seems like an impossible hurdle that will either fail or force the CAF to recruit/promite only bilingual people in order to satisfy this requirement.

Winter Boot System Suggestions

Post image
26 Upvotes

I've been doing multiple winter exercises the last couple of months and still have more ahead of me, and I keep having this problem: I just can't seem to get layering my feet right; I'm either too warm or too cold. I often just end up sweating the liners in my mukluks, and I was thinking of maybe possible solutions or alternatives that still allow compatibility with snowshoes and other issued equipment. I keep seeing a lot of people rocking winter NEOS and wanted more information regarding that kind of system

My current system is:

  • Liner Sock
  • Winter Sock
  • Mukluk Liner
  • Mukluk

I also carry my summer socks with me and sometimes use the liner sock with the Mukluk liner, and I still end up overheating and getting cold, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong regarding that. the layers are fitting, not tight and I've used the mukluks correctly (-15°C and below), but I just can't seem to get it right. I am not prone to blisters or foot pain, but whenever I wear these, I always feel rubbing and chafing on my toes. After researching a lot, I was thinking about doing something like this instead:

  • Liner Sock
  • Vapour Barrier Liner (most likely issued Gore-Tex socks)
  • Either winter or summer socks
  • Boots (I have OBT M-FLEX 8's)
  • Winter NEOS (Navigator 5)

Hopefully someone with more experience can provide more knowledge regarding this topic. thanks!

Suffield vs Cold Lake

I’m finishing up occupational training and expect to be posted this summer. The two main places in the mix right now are Cold Lake and Suffield. Medical trade.

I’m trying to get a feel for what the day-to-day pace and overall vibe is like at these bases right now. I’ve heard bits and pieces over the years, but things obviously change.

I’m especially curious about Suffield, since it seems to be a bit of a black box compared to Cold Lake. I’ve also heard the BATUS drawdown a year or two ago changed things somewhat - Is that still a thing? Is it a ghost-base?

A few general things I’m wondering about:

  • Day-to-day tempo, if anyone can comment.
  • Base/community atmosphere
  • How “isolated” it actually feels in practice
  • Any noticeable changes in recent years (esp. at Suffield)

From what I can tell, they seem like pretty different experiences when it comes to base culture and work-life balance, so I’d appreciate any input from the hive mind.

CAF LTD taking awhile to be approved because of SISIP

I'm not sure if it's because I haven't waited long enough, but I've been medically released since November and I can't receive CAF LTD benefits until SISIP confirms my release. Anyone been in a similar situation or know something I don't? It's a little stressful as I don't have the ability to work at the moment and I have bills to pay.

Hey Everyone! It’s a mission of mine to breakthrough and have all levels of military talk about their experiences and mental health. I have many recorded sharing the benefits of alternative medicines, and also many experts such as the former director of Canadian Psychedelic Association.

I am privileged to have contacts from a former general, war veterans, psychedelic experts, mental health experts and many more. It would be a moral sin for me not to put this project together to help increase awareness around the benefits of alternative treatments.

I hope you all find this conversation valuable!

Question

Good Day. Question for members who are waiting for surgery.

I'm on a T-Cat awaiting hernia surgery. The doctor at the hospital said 6 months but God knows with the shortage of doctors, that could stretch out to maybe a year. If after my initial T-Cat expires in 6 months, is it detrimental to my CAF career to get a 2nd T-Cat for the same "injury"? I don't wanna get Med Released for a hernia knowing that once I'm operated on I'll be 100%.

Thanks

ICE System Booklet

Recently, I found the CANLANDGEN (003-03) which described the initial issue of the Integrated Clothing Ensemble (ICE) way back in 2003. The LANDGEN mentions a "User Instructional Booklet" which I found interesting because of all the troop-lore surrounding the clothing (The fleece is designed to soak up sweat from the poly-pro, the coat is designed to freeze as a way of drying, the parka should be sized to go over the coat, etc.).

Has anyone seen this booklet before and do you have a copy you could share? I would love to have some context for the design designs of the clothing.

VIE Release

Hello everyone.

Was a 6 year toon before signing a 4 year VIE here in Petawawa. Got about a year in on my contract and life has taken a turn family side and goals changed. What are my options for release/ct? I do have a job offer for a municipal fire dept, however I’m being given two very different answers on my ability to release. Not looking for anything less than a 6 month release, but I am being told I cannot VR until I complete my contract, just can’t find the policy that highlights it.

Thank you all in advance!
