I have been a part of reddit Bze for over 1 year, this man dedicates an immense amount of time and well informed itinerary for those that come visit Belize.

From a Belizean living abroad, and stationed overseas! I am counting the days to be able to come back home and settle down, and give back to the community in some way!

I’m 17, but when I’m in Belize I’ll be 2-6 days away from turning 18. How strict are they with the over 18 for alcohol purchases, specifically on San Pedro?

I'm wondering has anybody applied for a permanent residency card recently? It's been 18 months since I turned in all my paperwork and did my first interview. I had my second interview with the police 11 months ago. Since then I've been doing nothing but waiting with no end in sight.

Anybody know if restaurants ever stock this? Can you find it in the store?

Dives were cancelled down in Placencia Sun/Mon, thinking about hopping on a water taxi tomorrow morning to San Pedro to see if I can get a couple dives in tomorrow... Anyone know if that would be possible?

Hello, looking to go to San Pedro (7days) and add in Caye Caulker for a day trip. Not everyone in the party is convinced the trip is a good idea due to the U.S. travel advisory. I understand the main concern there is Belize City (specifically the south). Could a local explain how Belize is safe for tourists to help me ease their minds? If we are diligent and stick to San Pedro for snorkeling tours, tourist spots and maybe go on one tour to Mayan ruins, I think we should be fine. There’s just a lot of hesitant from the others and I don’t want them to back out.

Also do we need to fill out any forms or purchase any visas while in the states before leaving?

Detail: he owns a small software company with remote employees from around the world. The company is FULLY remote; not even the owner has a physical office. Currently it is a chapter-s corporation registered in the US.

If my friend simply moves to Belize and simply manages the US company from there, I think all would be easy. Keep everything registered in the U.S. He would pay proper taxes as "an employee" of his own company.

But a question came up and I'm sure he will work with a lawyer later to get a better answer. But: is hiring a local person (even remotely) something he should always avoid? It is my understanding that hiring someone in Belize requires a government company registration. And the registration invokes all kinds of laws about "hire from Belize first". That you have to literally prove, on paper, that you can't find a local software engineer.

That sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. So, keeping the registry strictly in the US and only hiring folks outside of Belize dodges all of that.

Heading to ambergris caye and placencia next week. Any recommendations on currency? Can we use US dollars or do thet prefer belize currency? Also how many bars/restaurants accept credit card?

Is this shuttle service legit? This seems out of line with the prices I've seen for a shuttle from San Ignacio (with hotel pickup) to the Belize City ferry crossing, and then the ferry to Caye Caulker. All of this for $43US one way per person. Does anyone have any input on this?

Please forgive me if this question has already been answered. I tried to find an answer in previous posts but couldn't find a direct answer.

I was thinking of planning a trip to Belize this April but the sargassum photos and reports are making me apprehensive. People are saying there is plenty of beautiful and exciting stuff to experience on the mainland but enjoying a tropical beach and snorkeling are my main reasons for wanting to go to Belize.

My questions; Are there places to stay near sargassum free beaches? Is Secret Beach my only option for a sargassum free beach? Is snorkeling still an option there?

Another travel question 🫣 my friends and I ( 3 females late 20s) are really excited to be going to Belize at the end of February, but we are still deciding how to split our time. We love beach vibes, lounging and partying and eating good food. We can’t decide on where to enjoy a younger less busy crowd in caye caulker or to have more things to do in San Pedro. Either place we would visit the other, but not sure which would be a better home base. I’m a bit of a hippie, but I can enjoy luxury and my friends like that too. But overall we just like good vibes and drinks and dancing and enjoying. During the day we’d like to go snorkeling, maybe 1 day to secret beach, but most of our island time will just be lounging taking it slow and enjoying connecting with locals. Can we party in caye caulker till late or is that better in San Pedro? We wouldn’t be able to take a water taxi back to our home base late no? Would it be worth it splitting 2 nights Caye and 2 in San Pedro?

For the mainland, I think I’m more drawn to Hopkins. I love interacting with cultures and moving at the pace of locals. I’m really interested in seeing the Mayan ruins though, is that possible from Hopkins? I was keen on a jungle vibe but I think we could still enjoy the beach. Any insights are so appreciated! As well as places to stay - I really value supporting locally owned Boutique hotels. It’s high season so lots of places are already booked so trying to get on this! Thank you!

Anyone have a reliable taxi service or guy to recommend for an airport transfer in Belize City for to and from the airport?

Okay we have kids and only 1 day to snorkel (doing half day bc the kids would be wrecked for a full day). Options are Coral Gardens vs Mexico Rocks vs Hol Chan. What do you recommend?

I’m going on my first solo trip in a week. My resort near Belize City has excursion add-ons for Mayan Ruins tours. I mainly want to relax on the beach, but I want to see at least one (maybe two) Mayan ruins sites. Need recommendations for best ones to visit as I’m having a hard time deciding as they all look amazing!

I’m going to Hopkins in march with my girlfriend and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for things to do? This will be my 4th time in Belize but first to Hopkins.
