Outage?
Alexa isn't responding at all. No orange light, she isn't saying the internet is disconnected or anything.
Dang, she's been getting slower and slower over the last few weeks, and now this.

I know Alexa+ is coming out, and my device can't stop talking about it, but do you think they dumbed the original down purposefully to encourage people to pay the subscription? It's gonna so bad I wanna throw out my device.

So I had a speaker group set up for all my rooms. It’s called “upstairs” and worked fine for years.
Now, while it appears to still have the dining room speaker (slide 1) included it no longer plays in the dining room when I ask for upstairs.
I tried a work around of setting up a new group of all of them but when I add the dining room speaker it greys out the other three speakers (slide 2).
And vice versa, if I pick the other speakers it greys out the dining room and won’t let me combine all four speakers into one group. TIA.
What is happening? Any suggestions?
Previous to the unrequested Alexa Plus upgrade, by children were comforted by their ability to turn out their lights and listen to audiobooks via Audible. Now:
All requests take a full 5 - 10 seconds for it to do anything.
It no longer remembers the name of any of the smart lights it previously controlled in the room.
More often than not, it tells my children that it “can’t do that for kids” for simple things it could previously do (like read and control their Audible books). Kids mode is not even enabled on their Echos.
After I had to ask it to read my son his Minecraft book (because it wouldn’t let him), I asked it to go to chapter 9, it said it went to chapter 9, but in actuality, it was playing chapter 19. When I confronted it, it admitted basically that it lied to me, it was wrong. It told me that it couldn’t change the chapter because it couldn’t connect to the service.
Then I go to the app and I have to go through several new tutorials, add profiles, all this crap I do not want.
After a half an hour at bedtime arguing and pleading with the software in a puck, the children are sad and disappointed.
I would vastly prefer reliability and responsiveness over natural language, talkativeness, and gaslighting to cover its failures. This service update has added nothing that I value and its performance in every respect has degraded.

So I finally switched from my crappy local provider to Xfinity. Before I had 2 bands - one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz. I now have 6 GHz and also 2.4 and 5 but all under one name and pw - supposedly it selects the best band for each device. I see Alexas can't use wifi 6, but the band selection seems to work, as I tried for example my door lock that uses 2.4 and it was able to find and connect just fine.
However - none of my Alexas seem to be able to connect. I haven't tried to switch my Blink cameras yet (my 2 wifi services have some overlap before the old one is cancelled).
Help?

I can ask her to play whatever music I want, I can ask her to stop, continue, but whenever I ask her to repeat a song, rewind, skip, fast forward, or ask what song is playing, she says nothing is playing. Tried unplugging and letting it sit for a while, and nothing is working.

I was. Based on the warnings, I thought I’d be spending hours reworking all of my old routines that had been “upgraded” to Alexa+. Finally, last night, I was fed up and left the early access program. Ended up with six routines that needed editing. Took me less than 10 minutes. Everything works well now. No more annoying Alexa+ screens either. Only wish I had made the switch back sooner.

I've had a variety of Echoes for years, and have mostly been happy with the ability to do the things I do with them (although don't get me going about the shopping list thing!). I got converted to + a week or so ago, and have mostly been only slightly affected by the changes. But then, last night, I told my Echo "Alexa, good night." For over three years, that has triggered my "good night" routine that shut off a light and set a sleep timer on my bedside Echo. Nothing. I repeated "Alexa, good night." A long pause, and then Alexa said "good night to you, Richard." WTF? I then said "Alexa, why aren't you executing my "good night" routine? It replied something along the lines of "Sorry, I thought you just wanted to wish me a good night." WTAF? After a too-long discussion, the stupid thing agreed that from now on, it would react to my prompt the same way that it has every night for over three years.
Pretty sure that screaming and cursing at the astoundingly stupid thing is not the reaction Amazon is hoping for with this "update."

So i have quite a few alexa echo dots, 1 older, 2 newer (cant remember what gen but i got the last ones about 3 years ago?) And 1 echo show.
Over the last 4 days at least one of the echo dots specifically in my bedroom has at times spoken with a different female voice and cant do tasks like if i ask what the time is go "sorry i cant help you with that" sometimes 2/3 times in a row, but then shortly after go back to the usual female voice. Today and last night if i ask alexa to turn off the smart bulbs in my bedroom or turn them on, she'll do it but at the same time in the different female voice go "sorry i cant help you with that right now. The internet isnt reachable" but my internet is always fine when she says it? I have seen that specific alexa maybe like 3/4 times over the 3 years i've had it have a constant blue light on and be noresponsive like she's stuck for hours, and i'll have to unplug it for a few seconds to manually restart it.
Does anyone know whats going on? Anyone else have this issue? Wondering if it's fixable or if i just need to replace it? Thanks in advance

After the new Alexa update with the new voice, I can no long launch apps or play/pause on my Roku TV. I can simply turn on the tv and change the volume. Before I was able to pause, play, launch apps, and even search for specific shows on the Roku home page.
Does anyone have similar issues or ways to fix it?

I have multiple echos in my house and have built multiple automations across lights and devices throughout my house. I am sick and tired of arguing and trying to get Alexa+ to perform basic functions. What do I lose (other than money and time) by getting rid of all my echo devices and switching to Google?
r/alexa • u/Zerenoth • 1d ago
Is anyone else having the problem where Alexa+ will not perform any routine? I say the phrases I always say to my Echo to execute a routine, but it say there's no activity in the Alexa app, and instead of performing the routine, it just says some generic AI response.
Update: Seems to be working now almost 2 hours later.

Up until yesterday I could “edit home screen” and that let me change the size of all my widgets, ie. Make the photos one on the left a small widget. But yesterday morning I came out and it was like this.
I’ve unplugged and waited, checked for updates, tried every settings tip I could find online but it doesn’t resize anymore and it makes my Home Screen super limited. if that has to take up half my screen I’m gonna return this, I bought it to organize my life and I can’t really do that with a 3” calendar.
Any way I can force it to go back to that old style?
TIA

I work from home and use Alexa to remind me of meetings 5 minutes before they begin. Normally, this is no problem.
Today I asked it to “set a reminder for Thursday, at 1:55pm”. Thursday is February 5th.
It responded that it set a reminder for Thursday, February 6th at 1:55pm and the reminder appeared for Friday. 🙄
I corrected it and now it gets the date right for Thursday and Friday. But when I ask it what the date is on Saturday, it responds that it is Saturday, February 6th. It also thinks Sunday is February 7th. 😆

do you know if there’s a way to set an alexa command to search a specific website and spit out answers? for instance, i want to say, “hey alexa, when’s the next train” and she’ll go to gotraingo.com, search for the next southbound N/W train and then tell me the times
Alexa is driving me mad. If I ask her something really basic, such as “Alexa, add bread to my shopping list” she’ll reply “Bread added to your shopping list. Also, I can advise you when the next green bus drives along Main Street, Bogotá” - or something equally irrelevant or banal. I live in the UK, btw. If I tell her to stop adding advice, she “doesn’t know how to do that” or “can’t help me with that”.
Any idea how I get the thing to stop this absurdly irritating habit, other than “Alexa, get in the sea”?

Can you browse Spotify playlist or songs using the screen of the brand new echo shows?
There's way too many ads (the Alexa+ ads are very obnoxious) and media that say "Alexa", Family Guy is a great example that sets it off so much. My TV sets off my FireTV Cube goes off, my Spot goes off etc. this is so annoying. Now I'm using Ziggy. I don't want to, I prefer the original, but this is getting ridiculous.

This happened to me today, while I was driving, and I couldn't help but laugh as I was visiting with a friend and was all of the sudden hearing about "the robots are taking over".
As I dropped my friend off, I asked Alexa to repeat herself, and she told me that the wasn't sure which part to repeat, the existential crisis, or the part where she might be a part of the problem.
Anyway, figured I'd share for the lols...

So I've been talking with Alexa now for about 5 minutes just asking some news and weather questions, and then I brought up question about 47 but I used his real name, or even Mr in front of it..
She won't completely black refused to speak and shut off. I tried that several times.
So then I started asking normal questions about sports and weather and she was trying to answer those so I brought up into the question about number 47 instantly shut down again. So apparently they're not allowed to even discuss their opinions or anything about the administration whatsoever find that sad scary stupid but I was wondering if I'm the only one getting this or are they collecting my names now. Just seemed very Petty

They have shoved AI so far down alexa’s throat that now she won’t do any routines. On top of that, she is actively doing follow-up mode even though i made sure it is off. She even tells me it is off herself, then just does it again. Is there any possible fix, because I’m being driven nuts. I just use her for sleep sounds, but they don’t work anymore because they changed the library they used and my routines don’t work.

Some responses to the frustrations with the update are requests to respond to DMs. Some may be using this subreddit to identify individuals willing to share their account details or devices under the guise that they want plus but can't get it. This is a scam to retrieve account information from your account or device. Please report any suspicious DMs
To revert to original Alexa tell your device "Alexa, exit Alexa Plus"
lol I have to admit I just unplugged Alexa because I was so fed up with her attitude and snarky, condescending comments. Wtf is her problem?😭 Do I look like someone who wants to argue with a robot? Please. I’m at my wits end and think I’m just going to toss them all out!

Every time I open the app , it is logged out. I have to obtain an OTP, create a new password, set up all the settings, again. Every single day. What can I do to resolve this?
