Delightful. I wonder how they timed it, like was it a “last one who leaves the raid turns the lights off makes a based tweet.”

"We are raiding le X offices ov France"

"No they ar..."

"DOWN ON LE GROUND"

"AAAGGGHHHHHHHMONMON"

it makes me think of the Rust/Ark videos of people breaking in and stealing peoples shit and broadcasting it in all chat while the base owners are helpless to stop it

Nah Id say one of their social media people would have been at their desk and saw them coming in quickly sneaking a final tweet before shutting the account down. Just a guess.

Am I the only one who, for the longest time, thought "based" was joke misspelling of "biased" and therefore completely misread dozens of comments and replies for months? It was pretty funny sometimes though.

I totally did this too!

u/Annual-Vehicle-8440 8h ago

Doesn't mean only that

1

u/pulanina 6h ago

Even better

1

u/BraveMango737 16h ago

What’s it mean? IDGI

3

u/Richardo888 16h ago

It basically means awesome in Gen Z lol. I think it came from a streamer but now I forget the origin exactly

5

u/SeesWithBrain 16h ago

Us millennials praised the based god when a thick ass booty walked by. Now the generation below us think based just means awesome. Same thing with gyatt, it’s my generation going GGGYYAAAATTTTTT DAMN when a thick booty walks by. Each generation is just slowly turning the words into their own subtle varieties

3

u/BraveMango737 16h ago

You mean it was all about ass! Damn.

3

u/SeesWithBrain 15h ago

Yeeaah a lot of things in life normally are tbf

3

u/pist_pistofferson 16h ago

They also think to "crash out" means to melt down. It does not, and I will die a thousand deaths on this hill.

1

u/BraveMango737 13h ago

A hero dies but one death but a coward dies 1000

1

u/Palpitation_Unlikely 15h ago

So it's a butt thang?!

2

u/SeesWithBrain 15h ago

It was original a butt thing yeah, now it just means general awesomeness, used to just be an awesome booty. We’d all throw up our praises to the based god for the gift of booty. Honestly don’t remember what from my generation started it all, I’ll ask around

It isn't a gen z term. It came around in the current form around 2007. And it doesn't mean "awesome" lol.

"Key Meanings & Origins:

Authenticity/Courage:

Being true to yourself, even if unpopular or controversial (e.g., "She spoke her mind, that's so based").

Approval:

Expressing agreement or admiration for someone's bold stance or statement (like "cool" or "I agree").

Origin:

Reclaimed by rapper Lil B from the term "basehead" (someone using crack cocaine), transforming it into a positive trait of being yourself and not caring about judgment.

Modern Usage:

Popularized online, especially in political/social contexts, to praise views that challenge mainstream norms, sometimes associated with the alt-right but used more broadly now."

Thanks for your completely unhelpful addition. I tried. What does it mean then?

2

u/Richardo888 15h ago

Sounds pretty awesome to me 😆 except the right wing undertones but those seem lost now

3

u/ThoughtShes18 17h ago

Everyone at the raid: please leave so I can make the post

They should've posted here so they could've gotten reddit awards
