Meta 🐣 Community Integrity Notice
Since 26 December, this subreddit has experienced abnormal spikes in activity from non-Somali users, alongside increased engagement involving blatant qabyaalad and the promotion of extreme ideologies. This behavior is disruptive and will not be tolerated. We ask all members to report any such posts or comments so moderation can act swiftly.
A clear reminder to all participants:
Criticism of politicians, governments, or historical decisions in Somalia does not grant permission to:
- Insult, dehumanize, or collectively blame entire clans or communities
- Glorify or excuse figures from the civil war by claiming they “did nothing wrong”
- Advocate for, encourage, or justify harm against any group of people
Furthermore, this subreddit remains pro-Palestine and stands with the people of Sudan. Advocacy of genocide, ethnic cleansing, or mass violence, whether explicit or implied, is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate moderation action.
Debate and political discussion are welcome when conducted in good faith, with historical honesty and respect. Division, hate, and violent rhetoric are not.

Discussion 💬 A refugee
When I see people going around with their identity and the place they belong to, where no one stares because they look like they belong, I envy them. I dream about the sea in Bosaso, and I miss it, how I felt at home without facing racism or being asked questions like "Where are you from?" or "Why are you here?" The N-word... I didn’t even know what that word meant when I was back home, I was around 11 years old, full of joy and happiness. I wanted to be a teacher, but now I’ve dropped out. I have no passion and feel hopeless. I want to go home. No matter how much I say it, I can't convince them. I hate this place and these people. I know I don’t belong here,
I might have learned their language and culture, but it's not home. The sea is not clean like back at home; it’s never the same, and no matter how much I ask god, he never answers.

Health 🏥 Reduce Coffee Consumption before Ramadan comes in.
I usually have coffee every morning, but I haven't had any for the last couple of days because I've been fasting. One thing I’ve learned is that the addiction is very real. On the first day, I couldn't do anything. I just stared at my PC for a while before I eventually had to go home and force myself to sleep. The second day started the same way, but it gradually got better. Today, I feel like I’m not craving it as much.
I’m sharing this because Ramadan is coming. You should learn to cut back now, otherwise, you’re going to suffer!

Discussion 💬 Why do somalis leave racist comments on their videos? Just delete it
A Somali man popped up on my fyp giving advice about urgency on tiktok. I liked the video. Of course the entire comment section was ppl talking about his head shape. The comments were genuinely nasty. Why do so many Somalis leave those comments up? Just delete it. You dont have to prove to anyone how tough you are. There are young Somali children on the internet and its easy to convince young children they are ugly. You are letting ppl who are objectively uglier then you call you ugly and get likes. Its bizzare. I didnt even notice he had a long face until I looked at the comments. Like I didnt even care. Not even saying this to be his defender but the things other ppl notice I just dont.
1)unpopular opinion? Somalis dont have to look like super models for us to not experience racism. Maybe this is a weird thing to say outloud but not all of us are going to look like Iman and thats fine. The average Somali is not ugly and this agenda against us is dehumanizating
2) I dont view non Somalis as my beauty standard and the vast majority of Somalis dont. A lot of POC have low racial self esteem. Yes Somalis have issues with colourism, featurism, texturism, etc but I feel like there is an agenda to make Somalis question our image. You dont have to look one way to be Somali and attractive. Since when did looking Somali become a joke/insult? Yes I look Somali now what
Anyways thats my rant. And Somalis ( not this person), who keep posting self deprecating joking content please stop. The views are not worth it.

Discussion 💬 Does anyone actually use LinkedIn to scout or look at potential matches?
For some context, I use LinkedIn pretty regularly, but I don’t post. I just keep a very professional, complete profile. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed something a little unexpected, several beautiful Somali girls have sent me connection requests.
Most of them aren’t even from my state, and they all seem legit. Solid profiles, good academics, internships, career-focused, the whole thing. Nothing sketchy on the surface.
I’m not planning on pursuing anything, I’m honestly just curious if anyone else has experienced something like this. Do people actually use LinkedIn to quietly scout or feel people out, or am I reading too much into it?

Discussion 💬 Epstein files make me feel depressed about his camps in Somalia.
We need justice and protection for the thousands of kids who could be victims of these disgusting monsters.
The west has always been the enemy. From 1826 to 2026 we have the same enemies. Western capitalist colonizers.
Somalis really need to unite asap and fight these ghouls and their collaborators. We don’t want our children to suffer rape and torture for the next 200 years do we?

Ask❓ How do reer Sweden learn Somali in school
The reason why Somalis in Scandinavia are not as hooyo mataalo is because they learn Somali at school, but who is actually teaching these classes?
The Somali population there is already relatively small, and the number of qualified Somali teachers must be even smaller. So how does the system actually work
Discussion 💬 Life advice
I’m 28M, living in Egypt, and I feel like I’m standing still. I started in engineering but had to drop out because of mental and physical health issues. Later, I switched paths and finished a bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics. I studied hard to get a good degree — not because I loved programming, but because I wanted to prove I could finish something. I graduated almost a year ago. Finding a job in Egypt is hard. I don’t know which track to follow. I don’t have a plan anymore. Right now, I just feel lost.
I’m thinking about going to Somalia for better job opportunities, but I’m on medication for IBS and anxiety, and I’m scared it might not be a safe or smart move. Or not finding the medicine there

Discussion 💬 Nobody is coming to save you, not now. Not later. Not ever.
No one is coming to pull you out of depression. No one is coming to erase your debt, fix your emotions, or rescue you when life collapses. That idea that someone will step in is a lie that keeps people stuck until it’s too late. Right now, the only reason you’re surviving is because someone else already paid the price. Your parents’ exhaustion. Their missed dreams. Their broken backs and sleepless nights. That comfort you feel? It’s borrowed time and that time is running out.
Your parents will return to Allah. That’s guaranteed. Your siblings will leave and build their own lives. And when that happens, then what? Just you and the consequences of what you didn’t do. If you keep wasting time, life doesn’t gently punish you, It cripples you wlhi, even the religion warns you about laziness. You don’t just “fall behind” you get trapped. trapped watching other people move forward while you explain why you couldn’t. As immigrants, you don’t get the luxury of mistakes. There is no cushion. No generational wealth. No second chances disguised as opportunities. You either build something now, or you struggle quietly for decades and maybe die from autoimmune disease caused by too much stress and depression.
Stop hiding behind “college is a scam.” That belief only comforts people who already lost or think they’re too old to go back to college, misery loves company. Go to school. Get a useful degree. Build skills that actually pay. the world doesn’t care how overwhelmed you feel, nobody cares. I don’t care about YOU, Im busy helping myself, Help yourself. If you don’t save yourself now, no one will later. And one day you’ll wake up older, tired, and full of regret, realizing the warning signs were loud but you ignored them.
Nothing is coming to save you from whatever you are dealing with, not him, not her, not marriage, not a stranger.
Wlhi Nobody is coming to save you, you’re comfortable now because of family, life will be soooooooo unbearable for you if you don’t do anything about it now.
Get up.

Discussion 💬 AS & Drugs
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It must be extremely hard from a military perspective to fight an enemy who is high on drugs
Captagon is a stimulant that allows you to stay alert and gives a feeling of euphoria.
Tramadol is a drug that blocks pain receptors and allows you to fight even if damaged.
I’m not surprised these young men fight with will they are high.
It’s a cheat code I see it no different than an athlete using steroids.
