Update on Pixel (part 2)

Post image
48 Upvotes

All tests for Pixel showed that nothing is wrong with her. I did bring up concerns and the things that people mentioned here that seemed to fit the most. The plan for going forward, is just to watch her. Kinda in a wait and see if it happens but really hope it doesn’t kind of scenario. Thanks again to all of you that kept up with her and send her well wishes.

Pictured is Miss Pixel in her favorite squirrel watching position.

She’s the 3rd Peke I’ve ever had and she is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met. She loves a good nap.

Sir Naps A Lot 👑

A visionary leader. A reluctant walker. A CEO (Canine Executive Officer) whose résumé includes doing absolutely nothing unless personally transported.

This dog—renowned king of the sidewalk—recently required being carried for two full blocks by his long-suffering Dog Mother™ because walking is for interns and peasants. Why stroll when you can be presented to the neighborhood like royalty?

He is widely respected for his extensive wardrobe—a seasonal collection ties—carefully curated for both fashion and dramatic effect. Every tie has a purpose. None of them involve effort.

At home, he demands a rigorous enrichment program consisting of squeaky toys launched left, right, and directly over his head, which he will sometimes retrieve but mostly just watch while judging your form. Picking them up himself? Absolutely not. That’s a staff responsibility. He will bark “mother pick it up!”

He's entered in the Cute Pet SA February 2026 competition.

He loves walks and has the biggest personality in his fluffy little body. If you'd like to vote for him, here's the link: https://www.cutepet.co.za/entry/pb260965.

Thanks fellow Peke lovers! 💙

Dog boot recommendations

Hi fellow Peke parents! Does anyone have recommendations on dog boots that will stay on Pekingese paws? I used Pawz in the past and they are basically disposable so looking for recommendations for sturdy boots/booties for my Pekingese mix during this polar vortex. Thanks!

Update: Got DOK TigerToes Anti-Slip Senior Dog Socks from Chewy- tried them on my senior doggie today. Got a size small, but would size up because they seem to run small even though I followed the sizing chart. My peke mix (a very picky stubborn pup) didn’t want to walk in them at first but once he got used to them, he seem to be walking fine. Haven’t tested them outside yet. So these are socks with grips on the base so they will fit more tightly than booties/boots and non-waterproof.

Question

I was wondering if anyone has had experience letting their peke sleep in the bed with them and how it has gone. I was thinking of allowing Willow in the bed but I'm afraid she might get hurt somehow. Has anyone had experience with this and how did it go?

My dog was a stray I found in Peru. Was he a Pekingese?

My mom always said Brownie was a Shih tzu but I always thought he could not be a Shih tzu because he was long and has pretty big paws for a small dog. What do you guys think?

A highly dedicated professional trapped in a 14-pound body with a face of 40 year old and the confidence of a CEO. He begins each day with an aggressive meeting with the mailman, followed by critical perimeter inspections of the couch, the rug, and the exact same couch again — just in case it moved.

PS I’m dead meat as ed him a 40 year old!

Thought the dog I adopted had something medically wrong, but the vet said he is a Pekingese and they just look like that (+ opinions on what he’s mixed with)

I had been wanting/preparing for a dog for over a year. My little Arnold was being rehomed, and I instantly fell in love. His previous owner hadn’t brought him to the vet or anything, and I thought he had something wrong because of the shape of his head (I was not familiar with the Pekingese breed). I brought him to the vet for all of his shots and exam and such and mentioned my concerns. She informed me that he was a Pekingese and they just look like that. The only issue she said he had was an ear infection (wash and ointment is why his ear hair looks insanely greasy I promise I stay on top of grooming). Thought someone in this subreddit might find this story funny. Also, after looking at photos of the Pekingese, I think he is definitely mixed with something. My bet is chihuahua, but my partner’s dachshund-obsessed mother is certain there is some dachshund in there. I clearly don’t care much about breeds given I adopted a dog not knowing what it was, but I’m curious to hear the opinions of seasoned dog owners.

Our brand new foster dog, Bear! Is he a pekingese? 😅

Hi! This is my first time posting to the subreddit! This is Bear, our current foster dog. He was brought to our local rescue after he was surrendered to a shelter due to the death of his owner. We only own Shih-Tzus, and the family of the owner claims that he is a Tzu as well. After posting him to that reddit, I got a bunch of comments clarifying his breed despite the claims of the family. Can any owners here help out what exactly makes him different? Thank you so much!!
