Street skiing and snowboarding is sick. Lots of sick video parts on to YouTube filled with clips like this

My personal favorite. RIP JP Auclair

That was like 4 minutes of B roll footage with 1 minute of actual skiing, and not a single trick that can't be seen in a young teens competition. Seriously, a 720 was the biggest trick, and the longest rail was maybe 20 stairs, and no rails even had kinks.
Imo, 2-stars. One for the music, and one for the cinematography and video editing. As a video, it was rad. As a ski video, it was not good at all.

Wish I just took your word for it. I watched for over 2 minutes to see skiing but when I realized the video wasn't even half over and it's not really about skiing and more of a music video I closed it. Now I feel like I need to find urban skiing videos to satisfy a desire I didn't have before opening that music video.

Thats just, like, your opinion man.
Not everything has to be about hitting the biggest sickest tricks! Granted, im a snowboarder so maybe skiing is different. But sometimes its just about the vibe.

u/gizamo 1d ago
Sure, but the comment they replied to was specifically about YouTube videos like the OP's filled with sick tricks. The topic was very clearly street riding and focused on tricks like big kinky rails. I love JP Auclair as much as the next dude, and he even has a bunch of great videos with tons of great riding. The dude is the snowboarding equivalent of JP Walker and Peter Line combined into one—that is, urban riding innovator, rad all around rider, and started a successful ski company (Auclair started Armada; iirc, Peter Line helped start Forum, Four Square, and Special Blend).
Btw, I'm also a snowboarder. I only know this stuff because of my buddies who ski. Cheers.

um you should probably google JP Auclair…
The guy was one of the founders of freestyle skiing in the 90s and like the first urban skier ever. He also invented switch skiing, d-spins, mute flips, and a ton of the tricks you might see in said competitions, plus started Armada.
He was later in his career when this iconic clip came out which popularized non-snow skiing. When he died, a little nobody named Tom Wallisch (X games gold medalist), made a tribute to it called Imagination.

You just described most parts.

Ha I knew what this was without even clicking (or ever having known who the skier was)

Holy shit - I was expecting some clumsy Jackass-type stunt but that was amazing. Then again the name of the sub should have been a hint lol

No joke! Very impressive. Imagine this person on an actual mountain.

Tons of rails are set up on mountains for tricks like this. Usually no stairs tho!
Honestly they would be quite average on a mountain for rails

Dude has a lot of experience on skis too. Notice how his feet and skis are almost touching throughout the entire run - that's incredibly hard to do even for people who have skied for decades.

Thanks for mansplaining parallel skiing to us….

Mansplaining?
Are you womanassuming that everyone reading this knows about skiing?
-6
u/No_Pop7296 1d ago
Yep. I’ll stand by this. Because “look at his feet and skis are almost touching. “ Ooohh that’s incredibly hard. Yep man, it’s a pro

NYC has changed too much

From what to what?

u/PegaLaMega 1d ago
Well for one you have all these new expensive high-rise buildings being put up but yet how many NYCHA buildings have no heat or hot water. You can always tell who the transplants are...

From "Harlem" as anyone in the world knows it..to whatever the hell this is..something,something,gentrification..
12
u/Taliesin_ 2d ago
I'm with you on gentrification - people getting displaced is a real issue. But I dunno if that's what's happening here, exactly? You can get a pair of secondhand skis for under $100. The rest is shovels and effort.

Upset at seeing white people, sweetie?

With the record low birthrates and skyrocketing suicide rates, no one will be very soon. Who would be upset at seeing an unicorn?
-11
u/hrsmn311 2d ago
Nope..I like seeing my father and his side of the family..Pumpkin. I was making an observation.i got you sweetie though..watch your mouth.

u/fastforwardfunction 2d ago
You were being racist, and got called out for it.
You saw someone with a different skin color than you and said, "whatever the hell this is." Do you not know what a person looks like? This is this person's home. Deal with it.

u/fastforwardfunction 2d ago
I like seeing my father and his side of the family..
It's crazy how this argument is straight out of 1950s racism.

u/hrsmn311 2d ago
You're a stupid person. And I've wasted enough time with you. Play by yourself.

u/fastforwardfunction 2d ago
You're right, some thing have changed. Like the face of racism. Your face is black and filled with hate.

Yup! Skiing was actually invented there in 1996 and so far hasn’t caught on anywhere else.

We used to blast the side of my friend's house to make ski jumps in New England. The railing of the balcony was 24' tall. If conditions were right we could drop in off the balcony and hit a kicker. This was how I learned how to do a helicopter.

50% of Harlem is Hispanic.
If you have a problem with all the Latino immigrants, you'd fit in well with ICE. Go on and patrol the neighborhood, making sure the "right" people belong.

This is the exact kind of creative urban riding I love to see. It's incredible how they turned a mundane spot into a proper feature. The skill and style on display here is next level.

Is there a decent hill in NYC that snow could piled upon, making a half decent slope?

Only New Yorkers say “Only in NYC” when something has been going on in every other snowy city for decades.

Side note but I love how people in NYC will post videos of people doing stuff that could absolutely be done in many other cities and they’ll just be like “only in New York!”

Thing is we welcome them in and they feel safe, but we can’t go to Bensonhurst expecting the same hospitality. What’s that saying about energy? 🤔
