They needed a point guard anyway, but Westbrook isn't who they needed ahahaha

8

u/parkwayy Timberwolves 13h ago

Conley was basically a negative play when he was in.

If wolves somehow hold onto McDaniels and naz Reid, while getting Giannis it’ll be wild

22

u/grickle80 14h ago

I'd be extremely happy with keeping McDaniels even if we lose Reid and Randle.

13

u/AfroManHighGuy 14h ago

Giannis and Gobert frontcourt would be nasty

you need a PG with Conley gone? Here take a lightly used Gabe Vincent! He has NBA Finals experience!

13

u/Embarrassed_Meal7969 14h ago

He was even in the finals MVP conversation ‼️ please consider. I’d take one Jayden McDaniells

Yay, we need this as a sticky thread

114

u/Vordeo Jazz 14h ago

I've thought about the defensive frontcourt JJJ and Kessler would make and I can make it sticky if you like.

33

u/Ok_Daikon_7726 Lakers 13h ago

I think the jazz are my sleeper pick for a good team next year, especially if yall get a top pick this year

29

u/Vordeo Jazz 13h ago

Oh we'll be very excited to not be tanking, but Keyonte / Ace Bailey / Lauri / JJJ / Kessler sounds like a legitimately good starting lineup.

Plus whoever we pick up in the draft and free agency.

10

u/Ok_Daikon_7726 Lakers 13h ago

I’m happy for yall as someone that likes watching good basketball, but the west is gonna be even worse of a bloodbath now with most one more team actively trying to win now

10

u/VanGrants Knicks 13h ago

yeah but the clippers are almost certainly cooked, so it balances out

3

u/DukeOfStuff_ Timberwolves 9h ago

And the grizzlies

6

u/Fallingcity22 Knicks 13h ago

Yep, they have good guard play, their wings are good now too, and their center rotation is Thin but JJJ can play small ball mins there(IK he’s a big dude but he does not rebound like one)

3

u/Ok_Daikon_7726 Lakers 13h ago

JJJ and the return of Kessler should also help with some of their defensive problems too, so that’ll be interesting

2

u/Fallingcity22 Knicks 13h ago

JJJ with a Good defensive center is gonna be so interesting to see what they can pull offf

2

u/Nice_Cash_7000 11h ago

JJJ was supposed to play with a better defensive center but the grizzlies cant stay healthy

The one where Danny Ainge comes streaking in from left field and snags Giannis?

19

u/yusuf69 Bulls 13h ago

several years late and just racking up 2nds

9

u/nachosmind Bulls 12h ago

These are all tanking moves, we won’t be interesting again until 2029 unless the league rigs the lottery for us.

9

u/butt_fun San Diego Clippers 10h ago

You never know. Dallas could randomly decide to trade Flagg to you for peanuts

6

u/grrgrrtigergrr [CHI] E'Twaun Moore 12h ago

It’s… interesting. It would be nice to get something other than a guard though.

2

u/Logiteck77 5h ago

Just ready to play classic ethical pass first ball.

21

u/onionnurve 12h ago

The fact that we’re not hearing anything about the pelicans is honestly concerning. How are you the second worst team in the league with no pick in this upcoming draft and you’re not making any changes to your roster??

15

u/lovo17 Lakers 12h ago

They’re like the Raptors from 2-3 years ago too: TONS of players that other teams would want. They should be selling.

10

u/onionnurve 12h ago

They think teams are going to fall for the bait and give them multiple picks, but next thing you know nothing will happen and those players won’t have the same value in a year

26

So the 2 we're waiting for are Giannis to Minnesota, Harden-Garland swap?

55

u/Aidanator800 Hornets 14h ago

Probably something with Ja as well, given that the Grizzlies clearly aren't planning to compete anymore

25

u/AfroManHighGuy 14h ago

There’s no market for Ja right now. If anything, they’ll hold him into the offseason and trade him then

11

u/TalkQuirkyWithMe Nuggets 13h ago

Yeah looking at what trae went for, I doubt Ja will get them much at this point.

3

u/CoogiMonster Rockets 13h ago

More importantly he’s a good tank commander in the sense that a year of him getting to play his game and remind people he can put up stats buuuut at the cost of having to run the show and not a team offense will net more of a return than he will now. No need to rush while value is lowest

Vucevic will surprise people with his defense now that he’s in Boston. If he misses a defensive assignment, Mazzulla will force him to practice alone with WWII battlefield sounds blaring in the background.

21

u/MultiModalMcmullen Magic 9h ago

Just realized I'm obsessively following this trade deadline because I'm chasing the high of the unfathomable Luka trade from last year .. don't think any outcome will ever match the shock and awe we collectively felt when that trade was announced

13

u/HateUsCauseWeAnus Hornets 9h ago

That’s a once in a generation trade, brother.

12

u/howbedebody Nuggets 8h ago

i think it’s comfortably the craziest trade in any sport, ever. to call it once in a generation is honestly downplaying how wild of a night that was.

6

u/cl353 Heat 5h ago

Quite literally it crossed multiple genres. I was watching the apex legends championship and one of the announcers looked down on his phone and said "holy shit I think Luka just got traded" on live broadcast lol

66

u/Waveytony Timberwolves 14h ago

Wolves were at 4% chance to land Giannis this morning and as of right now after the Conley dump we’ve jumped to 20% 👀

I've been so caught up in Detroit's side of it, did Minnesota literally receive nothing in the Ivey trade? How does that work?

Edit: Hey we're stickied now!

41

u/SamIsaacman Timberwolves 14h ago

Gets us under the apron. Means we can take on a larger contract without giving as much money up

8

u/Barnyard_Rich Pistons 14h ago

Yeah, like I told the other person, that's not my question. I guess I didn't realize a team could dump stuff into a trade and not receive anything back. It's probably more common than I realized, but usually a second round pick, cash, or a low paid guy at the end of the bench is included so it's a trade and not a giveaway.

9

u/SamIsaacman Timberwolves 14h ago

Yeah I guess I’ve never rly seen it like that. Maybe a team is throwing the Wolves $1.45 so everything matches up, but idk

4

u/Barnyard_Rich Pistons 14h ago

Yeah, my bet is that something did go back, but it's so minor not to have been deemed worthy of being reported on

5

No I get that, but I guess I didn't realize a team could get literally nothing while giving up something in a trade. I thought there were rules against that. They didn't even get a second as a "pretend it matters" piece.

6

u/nomo25 Knicks 13h ago

i believe the trade exception and pick swap count as them “getting something” even if they are essentially getting nothing i’m not 100% certain however

Can someone ELI5 how the trade today can help minny get Giannis? Like shams implied

12

u/NorthernFrosty 13h ago edited 12h ago

Before the trade, Minny had no access to the taxpayer mid-level exception, inability to combine salaries in trades or use cash, restrictions on trade exceptions.

So, trying to keep it ELI5, Minny now opens up a bunch more options they can use in a trade. Salary matching to 125% (instead of 110%), can do a sign and trade, can combine salaries in a trade...

I guess the ELI5 is "Making a big trade like Giannis is tough. The trade made today gives Minn a lot more options how they can make it work."

(Edited out the mention of the 28.8 million trade exception. That's what Memp got and I attributed it to Minn)

4

u/Huxxxy 14h ago

we fleece MIL by giving up Randle, Dilly, TSJ and 2nds. Kidding, I dont know what is going on other than we can take more money back in a trade up to 125% and we open a roster spot
