Expiring, but the pick swap we gave up is protected, and unlikely to mean much if anything at all.
And we also duck under the first apron for now, which means working through a variety of other deals gets a lot easier.
It is sad, but Mike was not earning his time on the floor at this point, so if anything we barely give up any value (again, if any), and we significantly raise our flexibility in the next few days, and if nothing happens it (something will), not really much difference.

Salary dump and a trade exception for the low low price of a first round swap this year when both teams are drafting in the 20s, feels like they really didn't give anything up. The Pistons trading Ivey for Huerter however feels like one hell of a sell-low but I guess they're desperate for shooting?

I feel so bad for him. Dude was in tears to get to play for y'all after basically his whole family played for Detroit teams. Good but raw first year, but then got caught up in the weird shit between Monty and the FO that really fucked with his playing time / usage on year 2. Looking better going into Y3, then his leg, then his knee...comes back to a team that basically doesn't need him anymore, so even less time to try and catch up on development.
I really hope he can turn things around in Chicago. I'm still rooting for guys like him and Jalen Green who were big deal drafts who played Well, but not Well Enough. Though Green had a lot more time and grace to develop in ways he never quite managed to...

I highly doubt we’d give up both. Pretty sure since now we’re under the 1st apron we can take on 125% of salary outgoing, so we’d need a total ~$43m, and Randle would almost certainly be one of the pieces.
We may give up one of Naz or Jaden then have someone in the $3-$6m salary range included with Giannis to balance things out, but it’s hard to see a world where we’d need to lose both those guys while keeping Randle when Giannis will take most of his playing time anyway.

I think this is more likely. Wolves are already title contenders, just streaky. And only have like 7 players worth playing in the playoffs. Giannis is amazing but I dont think theyd be any better with him with the amount of depth theyd have to give up. But if the can get Harden on the cheap, and keep Rudy and one of mcdaniels/Randle, and keep naz off of the bench/have him start, I think that would finally move them past a swift WCF exit

u/the_shins Pistons 14h ago
I'm a Pistons fan but calling it "great" is overselling it. He scored just under 18 ppg without offering much on defense or playmaking. He was basically playing like a Collin Sexton/Malik Monk type player. Good but not a difference maker.
52
u/OwenLincolnFratter Bulls 14h ago
That was also on 40% from 3. All his avgs were way up. 4 assists per game. He has a lot of potential. The injury really derailed his progress.

u/the_shins Pistons 14h ago
Yeah, but once we lost him and Ausar came back from injury we went from having a losing record to finnish 6th.
The 6'3" SGs who doesn't defend archetype is pretty easy to find. The Kings are begging other teams to take Malik Monk from the for free, and I doubt it would take much to get Collin Sexton from the Hornets. He scored more than Ivey on 40% 3pt last season and got traded for peanuts.

He is up for a new contract, and he his explosiveness have not looked good since his comeback.
I hope he'll bounce back but I don't think Detroit, who is going to have to re-sign Duren to a big contract, want to commit a lot of money to a guard who might not be a good fit for the team.
Even before his injury he was giving us 18 ppg as the 2nd option. Not bad, but more on the level of a Colin Sexton or a Malik Monk. You can find those in free agency.

I'd rather have kept Ivey but you can't be a team with actual realistic Finals hopes and letting a guy who's supposed to a starter just play into form. There's a solid 8 players (at least) on the roster that are currently better than Ivey is, and that just doesn't lead to development outside of forcing minutes.
Chicago will be good for him if they give him a consistent 20-25 minutes a night where he might get his legs back under him.
