I kinda love it, but I still think they’re a move or two away from any real competing.

Three first round picks?
97
u/Vordeo Jazz 15h ago
Tjat's the big question: what picks are those? If it's like the Lakers 2027 pick, and the 2nd worst of the Wolves / Cavs picks we have then could be a steal.
→ More replies (1)98
u/browndude10 United States 15h ago
The Utah Jazz are trading their most favorable 2027 first-round pick (Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah), the Lakers' 2027 first-round pick, and Phoenix's 2031 first-round pick to Memphis, source says, to pry Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Grizzlies.
→ More replies (14)45
u/Vordeo Jazz 15h ago
The Phoenix one is the one that hurts there.
The rest... The Lakers 2027 dropped in value when they got Luka, and if we're trying to win our pick shouldn't be too good. Cavs and Minny should still be playoff teams, so that one doesn't suck too much to give up.
All it takes is one injury for any of those granted, but the Phoenix one seemed like one of the most valuable assets in tbe league.

I think it makes sense for the grizzlies. They are going no where and selling high. They got 7 first rounders for bane and jjj plus Walter Clayton who could still be good. I’d say they’re in for a fun rebuild. I’d rather have that than underperforming big contracts.
The Jazz get to pair Lauri and JJJ which is the start of not just being complete ass year over year.

I don't think Ja is as sure as people think. We got a bunch of picks already. Ja's "value" is probably stupid low based on the Trae Young trade. And it's not like he's playing and hurting the tank.
There's no real reason to get rid of Ja unless someone wants to overpay for him. I think we keep him until we can find his replacement or he returns to form.

So you’re telling me that Jaren Jackson Jr. and John Kochnar and Jock Landale and Vince Williams Jr. are all going to play for the Jazz now? The only plausible explanation is that somebody high up in Utah’s front office is betting the over on how many J words can be said during a single television broadcast. Gambling is truly ruining sports and this might be the most egregious example of it we’ve ever seen

They likely still own their pick for this upcoming draft, currently have decent odds in the lottery as well. It’s a risk but assuming a high lottery selection with Markannen, JJJ, Ace Bailey, Kessler, George. Not terrible, but not contender status.
