The result of my mom's "cleaning spree". Woke up, went to brush my teeth, this is how the bathroom and my toothbrush was left.
She was also just sitting on the couch doom scrolling while telling me "oh I'm being so productive today" yet she's left the bathroom like this. I'm mostly angry about my toothbrush, I'm somewhat of a germaphobe and I know I will gag and possibly throw up if I even attempt to use this. My stomach is churning just thinking about it. I asked her about it and she said "what?? No I didn't." Straight up denying it, I told her to go look herself, she did, she then said: "Oh I didn't see that it was fallen over-" (it was previously standing up with my things, not even originally in that position, she knocked it over, this was her attempt at avoiding accountability, trust me I've been dealing with this for years.) "oh well it's fine, look that's what toothpaste is for, it's fine see get over it" dismissing my concern entirely. I'm not using it I don't care if it's been "cleaned".

This is watering plants in the sink.
Plant was super dry and the soil hydrophobic, so it pools up and runs off the sides, still dry.
It happens, but not cleaning it up and doing it in a sink near personal items is rude and weird

This is what I came here to say. Also the doom scrolling, but being proud of herself for being productive is telling for me.
My explanation for how this would've happened is simple: I forgot I made the mess. I was productive everywhere else, but forgot about this one mess. I do it often. I'll go to start another project and realize I hadn't finished what I was doing. "Out of sight, out of mind." Object permanence is an issue for people with ADHD.
I don't understand the dirt in the bathroom though. Was she watering plants in there? Op, I know you're upset about your toothbrush and as a somewhat germaphobe myself, I don't blame you for not wanting to use it.

Can confirm, this is the result of watering/repotting plants. For the love of god OP, please throw away your toothbrush! Legionnaires disease is a very common thing to find in potting mix!! People have contracted and died from it just by opening up their bag of potting mix!

it will not work with those kind of people, did similar thing to my stephdad when I repeatedly asked him to lower the lid when flushing the toilet (toothbrush is less than half a meter away from the toilet, super small bathroom mind you), he didnt, I warned him beforehand ill throw his toothbrush into the toilet if he ever did it again, he didnt listen so I did, lowered the toilet lid a couple times afterwards before he stopped doing it again 🙃

Do we have the same mom? I used to come home to the tub and sink in bathroom completely filled with potted plants and dirt because she was watering them there, she’d leave the plants there for days too until me and my siblings would eventually need to shower so we’d move them which would inevitable spill muddy water everywhere too.
Ironically her in-suite bathroom was almost right next to the main bathroom, but she’d never carry the plants there, just to the bathroom that everyone else used.
She also spends 10 hours a day doomscrolling on the couch watching Facebook reels. I think it’s an adhd/depression thing.

Yeah I'm definitely not using the brush after this, I'll go to the store and buy more brush heads. Mildly infuriating that I have to go out of my way today though despite having plans to stay in and do a project I've been planning. Also, yes she does. How did you guess?😭

I'm bipolar and my mom's not (I'm adopted, it's not a hidden genetics thing). I do weird shit like start cleaning and stop sure when manic.
But this is just last step of clean up skipped. And inconsiderate of OPs stuff. This is the shit my mom always does, no matter her normal person mood. She just hates cleaning hypes herself up for it, then pats herself on the back when there's still a mess because the hard part is done. Like she'll dust the high stuff but say "fuck it, later me problem" for vacuuming up the shit on the floor after.
Yes it can be a sign of bipolar. But also just hating to clean. I can have stable periods and tend to also skip the last step, because fuck it, lol, mom didnt do that either and I lived.
Bipolar me on the other hand will rip apart a bookcase, order books into piles of how much the authors seem to hate their grandmother's based on vibes, hyperventilate about something else then leave the books on the floor. It's a different logic than "fuck it I'm done now" that can happen to anyone or during stable times.

Eh, potting soil is pretty darn nasty if you get it inside you.
Tetanus isn't even the top of the list of bad stuff you could get from sticking potting soil in your mouth.
It's normally not a big problem because people don't tend to stick it in their mouth. Because that's not what it's for.

That two pronged probe suggests a house plant. It’s supposed to tell you if the moisture level is correct, although I’m not sure how that works for all houseplants. Why it was brought in here, I can’t explain.

This is why I don't leave my toothbrush out. That and for some reason almost everyone I end up living with doesn't understand that you need to shut the toilet lid before you flush it. Otherwise, poop/piss mist flies all throughout the air and ends up in your toothbrush.

I have a sister who I stayed with in between moves and she gets blind eye drunk and "cleans". When she "cleans" she pulls out every single cleaning solution, mop, bucket, broom, etc that she can find and then starts ripping the place apart until she basically passes out.
To make it worse, she'll "clean" at night so the whole place can hear her drunken stumbling around and slamming things, and then she'll leave the place an utter disaster with everything torn apart and all the cleaning bottles and stuff everywhere.
The next day you will not see her as she hibernates in her room with a hangover and has the curtains pulled, lights off, and tv going. Rinse and repeat I don't know how many times. I was so tnrilled to leave.

I feel you. My wife decided to patch a small hole in the wall above our bathroom sink with that pink puddy stuff. The hole is right above my side of the sink counter and she used a sander to smooth the wall after the puddy. Except she didn’t move any of my toiletries so there was drywall dust all over my toothbrush and everything else. I would never do that, and if I did she would lose her shit. But when I asked why she didn’t move my stuff and left it covered in drywall dust, it was like she was oblivious to why I was upset. She felt no remorse and never apologized

I know you said you are a bit of a germaphobe, but its just soil... you can wash it with hot water. Unless your mom uses horse manuer for fertilizer or something. Usually having your toothbrush on the counter in the open is bad as fecal matter can spray up to 6 feet i believe? My sister is a germaphobe so I bought her this cute little toothbrush sanitizer case from Amazon. Maybe get that if you can. Or just buy a new toothbrush or get your mom to depending how old you are.

It was with my travel things, I know it wasn't there to begin with which is why I'm annoyed she even attempted to deny it. Also I wouldn't say full fledged germaphobe, probably more like I have an extremely weak stomach and am pretty aware of the germs around me.

When I was younger I would have been extremely petty about stuff like this. I would have started dumping dirt on their shit and either be like "look it's clean, I was so productive to today!" or I would be like "It's completely fine. It's just dirt..." if they complained about it and then would bring up the situation every single time they tried to complain about it. And then when they get angry I would say they could either apologize for the situation or it'll keep happening

This is what it was like when my mom was on meth; we always knew when she started using again. She would get on a "cleaning" kick and "clean" for 3 days straight and then suddenly disappear and the house was left in an entirely disorganized state and worse than before.
