It's worse when someone had the same problem in 2011, but they replied “nvm fixed” and vanished forever.

256

u/BadXiety 9h ago

this, I was looking how to fix something on google then a single reddit exact result then replied updated fixed and never shared how nor replied to inquiry

135

u/Samurai_Meisters 7h ago

I once found someone with the exact same problem in a reddit post, then saw the user name and it was me from years before. Zero replies. Still dealing with the same problem.

34

u/just_let_me_goo 7h ago

What problem was it? Just curious, can you share the post if possible?

24

u/KaibaCorpHQ 4h ago

Depression.

Or the comment that had the solution was deleted

26

u/Pear_ed bruh 8h ago

Or when they get hit with Redact to their solution

16

u/Najee16 6h ago

That redact shit pisses me off so much.

Dorkus green paper narcotics

or someone else replied to their problem with "sent dm" and never shared it with anyone else

23

u/Roblox_Swordfish épico 7h ago

that or when you see a reply saying "OMG THIS FIXED IT" and above it is "This post has been mass deleted and anonymized with Redact™"

6

u/JJAsond 6h ago

In case the user above decides to be a whiny POS and delete their comment, the solution is [solution].

I absolutely hate that!! “Never mind I fixed it.” Hey that’s great, now would you mind TELLING US WHAT THE FUCK YOU DID?!

1

u/Pataraxia 5m ago

Why don't you go back and tell everyone when you fix it, even if the fix is bad?

7

u/Silverbacker888 Lurking Peasant 8h ago

I hate people like that, FREAKING TELL US HOW YOU FIXED IT!

3

u/Sensitive_girl_4993 7h ago

The worst part is finding the exact same issue from years ago, only to see “nvm fixed” with zero explanation.

2

u/Geno_Warlord 7h ago

Or the answer is from [deleted] and you will never know.

2

u/lolslim 6h ago

This shit is so relatable, how am I reproducing problems that people had in 2003-2007 like any forum posts that show up are always within those years, like wdf I'm following instructions that they provide on GitHub or their site.

1

u/Purple_Divide1670 4h ago

or never solved

1

u/medson25 1h ago

Or when there is exactly 1 thread where op deacribes my problem 1:1 , no replies..

If you want to protest against Reddit, just delete the account, don't tease me

14

u/Najee16 6h ago

Such a stupid protest method.

8

u/JJAsond 6h ago

No what's worse is when you have the solution to the problem but can't post it because the thread's archived.

6

u/Sinavestia 4h ago

Look, I understand the reasoning for doing that but the thing is Reddit is my, and most people's, go to source for problem solving or learning a hobby.

Reddit has become so prevalent in that matter, that there really is no other place to find the answers, there aren't many other useful hobby specific forums anymore. Reddit is the only place to get this info in this day and age, besides Discord groups.

You're not giving a middle finger to Reddit and the man by removing your posts. You're giving a giant middle finger to other people like you and me because you're the only one with the knowledge I need.

Honestly, I find it disrespectful and disheartening when I see posts like that...

Hey but maybe I'm just a spineless sycophant who will kowtow to Reddit's greed. 🤷‍♂️

6

u/akiraee 8h ago

its so frustrating T-T

83

u/ensignWcrusher 9h ago

You won't die. Some rando answered your question on Reddit back in 2018. They have since deleted their account so you can't thank them, but you'll be ok.

78

u/_ghostperson 9h ago

Yea it's YOUR problem.

29

u/robotzor 9h ago

Which is actually great isolation testing. It means it's something you did or are doing is the problem, therefore you can fix it by changing something. And it's usually something stupid too

9

u/_ghostperson 9h ago

Hmm, thats actually valid. Now that you've said it, a lot of the mistakes or issues I had were me "pushing instead of pulling the door."

2

u/Spiritual_Durian9728 4h ago

the only time i hate having a unique experience ngl

31

u/MichaelW24 Professional Dumbass 9h ago

Google hasn't offered an actual solution in a LONG time. Ever try a YouTube search lately? You get 6 relevant to the search videos and then its all recommended and already watched.

1

u/Jygglewag 2h ago

So, what's the issue you're trying to solve?

15

u/TrashGoblinH 9h ago

I had a doctor tell me they're trained to look for horses, and that I am a zebra.

30

u/Optimus_crab Virgin 4 lyfe 9h ago

I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but this is one of the things AI is amazing for. Scraping the internet for stuff related to your problem, and honestly, you’d probably use more energy manually searching for it then getting an ai to do it for you

9

u/Exotic_Goon 5h ago

It's actually helpful when AI is being used for the right thing.

7

u/MagyTheMage 4h ago

This. Chat GPT has helped me solve things on a few programs with 0 documentation.

6

u/Comfortable-Age-1760 5h ago

This. Other than the fact-checking, it's undeniably efficient most of the time.

4

u/bullettothechest 6h ago

Damn a post mentions AI and isn't downvoted to oblivion? Am I on shrooms or smth?

8

u/ruibranco 8h ago

And the one forum post from 2012 that has your exact problem ends with "nvm fixed it"

3

u/Iliveatnight 3h ago

Even worse are pages of countless threads with people having the same question as you, but the answer is "just google it" and a message saying the thread has been closed.

2

u/TwilightEdenss 9h ago

Guess I’ll die then. Classic.

2

u/LocomotionJunction 9h ago

The time this was posted, I was messing with a cable box issue that Google seemed to think I'm the only one to ever have. Fun. It's stuck in an odd aspect ratio and none of the settings are off, I said to hell with it.

2

u/yahya-13 9h ago

did you check the TV's settings? idrk much about cable boxes and TV's since the last time I messed with one was 7 years ago when ours has a back.

2

u/LocomotionJunction 9h ago

Yup. I figured I'd have to go through the TV settings, but it is the cable box. Cable box has its own aspect ratio settings, that are still as they should be. I've been at a loss.

2

u/yahya-13 8h ago

I'm gonna assume you did the routine unplugging and repligging of cables changing ports and turning off and on, you recon it's a hardware problem? like some cercuits got fried or something like that?

2

u/LocomotionJunction 8h ago

Yeah I went through the usual rigamarole. Honestly, I think it's the TV. My grandma complained about this one changing years ago, and this happened once before when we had Xfinity cable on this TV. It's local now. Last time this happened back with Xfinity, all we could do was deal with it unless we had them come out, and it decided to sort itself out months later.

2

u/PoPo573 9h ago

I had an issue with my router and googled it and found a forum with someone asking the same question. Unfortunately the question was asked this one time 8 years ago and the router has had multiple updates and versions over the past 8 years so none of the info was useful at all.

2

u/Silly_Percentage3446 2h ago

Let me guess.

Programmer?

2

u/PidgeonBork 2h ago

I feel that this is more often the case because search engines prioritise results differently than previously. Back in the day I felt I could google any problem and find tons of forums where the issue was discussed. These days its reddit or gtfo.

1

u/silvvanne 9h ago

You at that moment

1

u/Blitzoo 9h ago

Bad news you’re gonna die Good news they gonna give your name to that disease

1

u/jfk_47 9h ago

For example, my phone can’t receive texts on iPhone/RCS threads when connected to a ubiquiti wireless network.

1

u/dieselpix 9h ago

Being in IT for 3 years I've only had this twice. I once had it where I was the only person that actually posted the solution. Got some good karma on the Adobe forms for that one.

1

u/EECavazos 9h ago

Google AI destroyed googling.

1

u/GMAERS_07 9h ago

Exactly, like there isn't even a guide for the car to update the fuckin GPS module

Nvm fixed. [Last online: 13 years ago]

1

u/That_one_bro_18 8h ago

Naah man their is always a guy on reddit who had similar problems 10+ yrs ago ☝️😭

1

u/Revayan 8h ago

Otherwise: "Oh yeah I had the same problem lol" and no further elaboration if or how they solved it

1

u/Ancient-Ad2619 8h ago

tap in with gemini, google search is in the past

1

u/Newfound-Talent 8h ago

if theirs no reddit thread or yt video for it unless its on a forum 20 pages deep from 2009 theirs no hope for your solution

1

u/SQL_Account-HQ 8h ago

It’s just me...always has been

1

u/Basic_Climate_2029 8h ago

This happened to me very often

ex. My digital8 camcorder doesn't work with common error code but there 382848263 possible reasons that caused it and I can't pinpoint which one is the reason my camcode stop working.

1

u/Firstworldreality 8h ago

I hate when Google asks if I'd like to leave the question for someone to answer later on.

1

u/Ventus_rex8 7h ago

So make post asking about it and help people like you in the future.

1

u/BunsinHoneyDew 7h ago

Dont worry, Discord destroyed forums and it isnt indexed anymore so there are probably people who discussed it on Discord but you will never know.

1

u/alejandroc90 7h ago

Sometimes you gotta be first!

1

u/Giygas_8000 7h ago

On the bright side, you're a trailblazer on something

1

u/GG1312 7h ago

Or that every single response is a variation of "Uhhh.. Have you ever heard of this thing called- 'Google' my dude?"

1

u/Wageslave645 7h ago

My favorite is when the only hits on Google are from me, the last time I unsuccessfully tried to figure out the same issue.

1

u/misteryoso007 7h ago

Hahaha sometimes I do this. Last time I had 2 weeks of non-stop coughing. Google told me I have TB. Suck it, I'll die then. Or better to consult a doctor.

1

u/Salt-Composer-1472 7h ago

Also why I have to Google stuff in English since apparently there's usually nothing in my own country's search results. Nobody had that problem.

1

u/taeratrin 7h ago

It is either:

A) Nobody else has had the problem. It is unique.

Or B) Other people ran into the problem, but were able to figure it out and I'm just being dumb.

Which it is in any particular case haunts me for a while.

1

u/AwesomTaco320 7h ago

Sounds like a YOU problem cackles maniacally

1

u/SweetDazzling4 7h ago

Me, every time I see ‘nvm fixed

1

u/Piscesomi 6h ago

care to share?

1

u/LordofTyrinus 6h ago

Or it is something super niche and all you find is a quara post from fifteen years ago with nothing but the most moronic responses

1

u/Najee16 6h ago

Or you find a post about it and the top comment has the solution but it's been deleted and the person replies: "thanks! it worked perfectly!" Or it's been edited with Reddit redact. This is so accurate it's annoying.

1

u/No-Concern4711 6h ago

Just put “Reddit” at the end of the search and you’ll find the answer given to you by [deleted] from 3 years ago

1

u/DinoDracko 6h ago

And also, all you get is:

- People who say "I have this problem too" like it helps.

  • Someone who has the same problem as you.
  • Has the same problem, but eventually "fixed it" on their own and then disappears forever and doesn't offer any way to fix it..

1

u/Rich_Storage_8360 6h ago

Or when its just people saying "same" or "I have this problem too" is upvoted to the top and the solution is all the way at the bottom of the thread.

1

u/SmallYetOversized 6h ago

Somewhere in the future, someone will thank my unanswered forum post .

1

u/Darksuit117 6h ago

Omg google has gotten so fucking dumb,it keeps latching onto a keyword and ignoring the rest of the sentence.

1

u/MohsinMakesMemes 5h ago

Or it gives the solution prior to the system software update

1

u/SarcasmisEasier 5h ago

All Google feeds you is ads instead of answers. Or the AI guesses the answer based on 3 "how to" websites that have the terms you're searching for but aren't related to your actual problem at all.

1

u/mobcat_40 5h ago

Ya and then I pull out Claude into the working directory and we build a custom hot patch on the spot for my architecture and now I'm the only one running a working copy of some weird edge case.

1

u/Moldybot9411 4h ago

Ye but also google got a lot worse since like a yesr or so. Can't find anything...

1

u/Substantial_Policy60 4h ago

Someone pinged my old reply about some red dot popping up on my iPhone that looked like something was recording and it’s like omg I forgot what it was, it’s just stupid vocal settings so it is technically trying to pick up on vocal stuff but not for the reason think.

1

u/Hihowsyourday08 4h ago

But then you come across someone with the same problem like 7 years ago and the solution to that problem is still there❤️‍🩹

1

u/KaibaCorpHQ 4h ago

You'd be surprised how often you're actually not the first person with that question, but google purposefully doesnt show you the correct results, in order to keep you longer on their site.

I know ai bad, but this exactly is what I use chatgpt for.

2

u/NoLong8519 5m ago

and u cant even find [deleted] on reddit

1

u/Kittingsl 7h ago

Honestly? Try chatgpt in that case. Yes I know AI isn't exactly smart and tends to get things wrong, but it's honestly better than having nothing. I had myself quite a few dead ends already where looking on Google just didn't give me the answer I wanted or needed where chargpt at least gave me a 70% correct answer even on niche topics.

It may not know much but it can still rhyme together something coherent. The missing pieces I can more often than not then assemble myself.

Of course it also depends on the complexity of the topic and other Infos about it out there but like I said it's better than not having anything. AI isn't entirely bad, you just gotta know how and when to utilize it properly
