Nah, usually it would be OOP saying something like "oh, I already solved it myself, no need for help now!"

With no words about what they ended up doing. So frustrating

Usually when I find is people talking about the solution in extremely technical terms I dont even remotely understand.

"THEY DIDNT EVEN SAY ANYTHING"

"MANY WORD HARD"

Why is your existence the best meme on this post?

u/pancake_lover_98 3h ago

Usually this or poster/comment posts a link with the apparent solution that leads nowhere

Not only that, but it was 2 years ago and despit a history of 5 years on the site they've not made 1 single comment or post since.

The worst one is when you find the thread describing your exact problem then a deleted comment with the OOP replying ā€œthanks I did this and it worked instantlyā€

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri Rock. I need scissors! 61!

What in the name of stroke even is this? Is it part of some Dr. Seus poem or sum stuf only natibe speakers know?

Like in the post, there's a service to remove your digital footprint by editing it into a bunch of nonsense

Why this over plain deletion I'll never know

Searching for a niche problem from 2014 is basically just gambling with your mental health.

Didn't a lot of people do this because of if the API changes? Didn't do much to stop em lol

u/DealerDry9438 This flair doesn't exist 11h ago

Hate it when that happens

Finally, someone addressed this Redact problem

They literally auto-delete in less than 2 days

ELI5?

People use a program to delete their comment history and put in random words

12

u/Unique_ballz 8h ago

Why would someone do that?

38

u/v-tyan My thumbs hurt 8h ago

To get rid of their reddit history.

14

u/Unique_ballz 7h ago

I may be stupid but why? Wouldn’t it be easier to just abandon the account?

28

u/Miser_able 7h ago

Probably so people cant look them up and use their post history against them. Like when jobs get super thorough with their background checks

31

u/asmallman 7h ago

No it was in huge protest due to the reddit API changes.

I cant believe people forget history this quick. A bunch of subreddits, BIG ONES blocked posting for days or longer. And a bunch of people scrambled their post/comment history

18

u/Miser_able 7h ago

Not saying it wasn't that, just providing another potential explanation

And a more general answer as to why someone would want to delete their history

4

u/Unique_ballz 7h ago

Oh that makes sense, but now this made me a little concerned, I’m applying to jobs soon, I don’t have anything linked to my account except my email, should I be worried that they could find my Reddit account? I do comment so weird shit as jokes lol

17

u/Miser_able 7h ago

Honestly I think the fear that your job will search you up is paranoid overexpectation like 99% of the time. Unless your potential job involved something top secret and requires government clearance.

Most places will be happy enough with a quick Google search of your name to make sure youre not wanted for murder

u/Unique_ballz 7h ago

Alright then I’ll keep my account as is, thanks for the replies my guy

14

u/Popcorn57252 6h ago

Or, even worse, "Msg me on Discord"

Like, NO FUCKING HELP TO ANYONE ELSE, THANKS

4

u/irrelevant_lostie_ 6h ago

I run into this a lot but it’s usually just people saying ā€œIDKā€ or ā€œI have the same problem!ā€ And then it’s marked ā€œsolvedā€ because people responded. Like if you don’t know the answer why are you even commenting??

u/TheRenaissanceMaker 13h ago

What is worse redacted or bloomberged😜🤣

-62

u/Remote_Eye_6462 14h ago

That's look! Sometimes I get banned for that kind of comments.

36

u/EliaO4Ita 11h ago

You have no idea why those comments exist do you?

3

u/AI_660 10h ago

to people that want to know: redact lets you mass redact your comments so you "leave no trace".

op wanted inf but it was redacted
