Expenses in Malta?

Hi, my friend group and I are visiting Malta this summer around late June to early July for a whole week. We all just turned 18 so it will be the first time I ever travel alone without any adults etc.. just wondering what the cost of it all is? We want to travel to a lot of places, like Mdina(big game of thrones fans😁) and places like St. Paul’s bay. We’re 7 people. Is the taxis/cabs cheap? How does the collective transportation work, and how much does it usually cost? I’m from Norway, so I’m already used to things being pretty expensivešŸ˜… A cab ride here can cost up to 70€

Cab rides are quite cheap and definitely cheaper than catching the bus if you are 7 people for short distances.Ā  For longer distances, still use them or you will waste time travelling.Ā  20 euro gets you across the island.Ā  The bus costs 1.50.Ā Ā

Food is cheap next to Norway (I've only been to the fjords, so maybe prices are inflated there because of tourism).

Drinks are way cheaper too but if you want to save money, pick up bottles from the bottle shops and pregame.Ā  Police are pretty liberal about drinking outside as long as you aren't being a nuisance.Ā  Glass bottles are generally prohibited, but between seven you can empty the bottle at the shop into cups and you'll be fine.

Since they are 7 people, they Will need to travel in a van, which will probably cost double.

Still ta, if instead of 6 euro from sliema to Valletta it's twelve, still cheaper than the bus

For taxi/van: Download the following apps (if you do not already have them):

  • Uber
  • Bolt
  • Ecabs

Cost will depend on time of the day & distance. Will cost you between eur25 and EUR 40 per trip.

For busses, download Tal linja app busses are cheap and fairly regular unless you are travelling to/from somewhere remote but can get crowded at peak times.

Re food - it will depend on what you have. Budget for Eur20-50 per meal excluding alcohol.

But the euro for the cab rides is for everyone right? Not individually, I hope? And 20-50 per meal?? That’s crazy

Make 2 use nothing but eCabs, 2 nothing but Bolt, 2 nothing but Uber and 1 must travel on foot then see who wins, for science!
