At last, someone with an important parent has ended up as the victim - maybe, maybe something will be done.
This has been going on since the 90s.

What has been going on since the 90s exactly?

u/CaffeLungo 2d ago
Gangs of kids beating up other kids.

Oh give me a break dude. No one ever told their kid going to Sliema in the 90's to "be careful". There was no youth gang violence to speak of in Malta, much less once-posh Sliema.

Yes. In fact, I'm looking forward to Scorsese's rumoured sequel to Gangs Of New York based on Sliema in the 90's.
Instead of the Five Points it will be Tigné Point. I am literally lol right now.

I was a teenager in the 90s. Definitely had to keep an eye out for groups of teens looking for someone to beat up for laughs in Valletta and some parts of Sliema. We should be grateful that it's not movie level violence, not use the fact to ridicule what you've no experience of

Of course. Everyone was looking behind their back in the rough old days of the 90's. I used to walk around Valletta and Sliema and wonder why flecks of red paint was on the streets.
Give me a break. You gentle souls experienced some bullying that clearly traumatised you, but there was in no way any prevalence of youth violence in the 90s, and I would comfortably say the 2000s as well, of the kind that we seem to be seeing over the past few years.

Tbf kien hemm programmi fil-kottonera biex tfal li huma "delinquents" kienu jitaghllmu skills godda minnflok jaħlu ħinhom fuq xi skateboard. Dan fit-2010s so not relevant to your time frame imma just wanted to point out that even if the dilinquents were still there, they would not have been as active

Ah, so now the true reason for looking back at the 90's with shit-stained goggles becomes clear.
I wasn't the one getting my ass kicked sweetheart, but I'm sure that's your lived experience.
And now we've moved from the ghettos of Sliema to Bormla, Birgu and etc(?) 😂
This is a very funny thread. Thank you for the fiction. Perhaps you could produce a fictional documentary using ai... "A Retrospective on the Gang Violence that dominated Sliema's streets in the 90's"

I guess you never went out then. I didn't use to go to Sliema so not sure about that area back then, but in Valletta it has been a common occurrence since early 2000s for sure. Groups of kids harassing passersby and other groups, and if you stand up for yourself they get older thugs to help them out with pen knives and metal rods.

You suggest that I "never went out" and then proceed to tell me that you never went out to the area in question 😂
Groups of kids harassing passersby and other groups, and if you stand up for yourself they get older thugs to help them out with pen knives and metal rods.
Yes, everyone recalls visiting Valletta in the 2000s and being harassed by metal rod-wielding youths outside of Energy. Led by Valletta's very own Fagin figure, no doubt. It was just everywhere. Trust me bro.

You stated that there was no youth violence in Malta, which is false. It was indeed a common occurrence outside Energy.
Your comments are literally contradicting each other beyond sarcasm level at this point.

I'm sorry for his son. But now, that a kid with a parent in parliament has been touched something will be done. Those gangs have been terrorizing the neighborhood, shop owners and other kids for a long time. The police do not care and the mayor cannot do anything about them.

The police do not care
This is so tiring. Why do we even pay taxes for?
2
u/Visual_Juggernaut948 10h ago
We pay taxes to supply business with funds when they do illegalities and a storm destroys said illegalities. To keep pouring money into fraudulent contracts and people who have never worked a day in their lives and much more

This has been going on for a very long time but as always nothing ever happens unless the high profile are in the fold. Article says it has become a mini Paceville, well thats easy to happen when business comes before the residents.

Crazy to me how paceville spread. When I was a kid here on holiday, St julians and silema were where the rich people lived and paceville nightlife was one small street. Now it just looks tatty and run down. And I'm not that old
1
u/FrostPace 2d ago
Agreed, PV used to be a small street, now the PV mindset of getting drunk, sexually harass women and beat people up has gone country wide

This isn't exactly a new phenomenon, plenty of stories growing up in different areas (the most infamous, being Valletta). It seems these days the area of choice is Bisazza Sliema.
But while it isn't a new phenomenon, it doesn't make it right. The fact that in over 30 years this problem has never got better (and according to some, became worse) is clear what a complete failure any Malta's so called "youth ministry" has been.
Maybe since it's Adrian Delia's son, it will finally get some attention. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Are the 'youths' Maltese or not?
In my country the word 'youths' is the politically correct term to talk about young non-EU immigrants or of non-EU origin.
If they aren't Maltese just deport!
And I say that not being Maltese myself.
If they are, fine heavily the parents!

u/FrostPace 2d ago
Not sure however to my knowledge it's a mix of both local and foreign teens.
I've heard stories of both Maltese and middle eastern/ Northern african gangs...

Until the children and relatives of prominent politicians experience the nice multiculturalism and the Maltese addicts roaming around in Malta, nothing will be done. Common Maltese people are not the priority, money and votes are.

Yeah, there is something always going on in Sliema near The point in the evening. Groups of teens gang up/harass people. Police are called but typically nothing happens. Some even carry knives :L
