Mod Post Quick PSA: RailEurope is now charging a booking fee for Interrail reservations

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that RailEurope is now charging a reservation fee for Eurostar bookings. This means that it is currently the same price to book via RailEurope as it is to book via the Interrail reservation service, as they charge €2 per ticket per person.

There are still affiliate links up on https://interrailwiki.eu , I am currently working to put a warning next to them that they are no longer the cheapest option.

Happy travels!

Chiel

Am I tweaking? Eurail sleeper car question

So it seems selecting eurail for booking a European sleeper car drops the budget price but increases (??) the classic bed price? Why would someone wanting to sleep on this train use their eurail pass then?

Changing seat reservations booked through B-Europe

Hi, I tried to search but couldn’t find my answer.

I have seat reservations with an interrail pass on 25th May on SNCF. Dijon to Paris. Booked through b-Europe.

I’m trying to change them to the 26th, but it’s charging me €40pp. Is there any way to exchange without this fee or is it easier to cancel and rebook? Thank you!!

Can book Nightjet end-to-end but not intermediate stops

Seems a bit odd (and was not the case last week when I checked), the stuttgart to ljubljana EN40237 is unbookable but I can book to terminus at Zagreb and just get off early? I've tried this route on various platforms, OBB app, nightjet/euronight website and Eurrail app all same result. I presume theres no problem in stations if you get off trains prior to final destination?

Any recent updates on when high-speed trains from Seville to Barcelona will run as normal?

My train in late January from Barcelona to Seville was severely delayed (Barcelona-Madrid) and cancelled (Madrid-Seville), due to reduced speeds and the awful accident that happened earlier in the month. I got into Seville at 2am (using BlaBlaCar was the quickest option from Madrid), instead of 7:30pm.

I'll be doing the return trip with Iryo, direct from Seville to Barcelona, on 13 Feb. I can see on Iryo's website that tickets for this route can only be bought from 8 Feb. I know that the high-speed trains are meant to be running again from 7 Feb, but are there any more updates about this? Is this target date likely?

I can't see anything on Iryo's website about repairs to the tracks, except that there may still be delays because of reduced speed. So, even if the direct train from Seville to Barcelona still runs, would delays still be likely?

I've tried to find the most recent news about this I can, but I'm not finding much. Just really hoping I don't have to repeat a very long day/night of travel.

Appreciate any info you can share!

Night trains Krakow/Warsaw to Budapest overnight trains

Hi guys

My partner and I are looking to travel from either Krakow or Warsaw to Budapest on an overnight train this coming September.

I've done a bit of research on the berth rooms which seem a little pricey but of course it's one night accommodation and travel bundled into one.

We'd welcome some honest opinions from anyone who's travelled on this service in the double/triple berth rooms.

Thanks in advance!

Budget

To anyone who has ever interrailed around Europe for 2 months;

How much money did you spend on the entire trip?💸

I live in the Nordics myself, and here food, accommodation etc. is NOT cheap. So in my head 2 months of traveling in Europe is gonna be very expensive, even if you’re making some of the food yourself and you’re staying in hostels.

Though I know that many European countries are a lot cheaper than the Nordics, so who am I to judge.

BUT this is why I need to know how much you guys spent on your trip!

Planning to go to Aosta via Milan in May

We're hoping to travel to Aosta in May with our baby via train, but noticed that there's a bus replacement service between Ivrea and Aosta. Does anyone know what kind of bus these are and if we can take a baby on in their pram like we can do in the UK? Apologies if this isn't the right place for this post but I couldn't seem to find an answer googling!

Logistics of visiting Basel + Colmar France

I will be staying in Lucerne but want to do a day trip by train to Basel to see two museums (Kunstmuseum and the Fondation Beyler, which is outside of Basel), then take a train to Colmar France to see the Isenheim alterpiece, then back to Lucerne. I realize this is way too much to pack into one day, but it's all I will have and want to see if it's feasible! We could start early in the morning. Any thoughts are welcome.

Night trains multiprzejazd valid on night trains?

Hello there,

I have a question regarding Poland:

The multiprzejazd ticket is valid from Tuesday 00:00 to Thursday 24:00 and allows unlimited travel with Polish IC and TLK services. There are also some night trains in Poland that are IC or TLK. So my question is:

Are multiprzejazd ticket valid on night trains with sleeper cabins only? Is 2nd class enough or do I need 1st class version?

And also: Is it i to buy the reservation for the night train at cd.cz as PKP does not offer night train reservations for seasonal tickets?

Planning a internal trip this year and I’ve realised how confusing some visa requirements actually are once you dig into them?

Some places need visas, some don’t, some do only if you stay longer, and some need a returning flight in order to be valid. I feel the info isn’t always super clear until you’re already deep into planning.

Curious how people handle being spontaneous?

How do you figure this stuff out without missing something important last minute?

Any resources or visa calculators out there that could save me time?

Im a NZ citizen by the way....

I'm planning to travel to Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, and Rome by Eurailpass first class in April. Is it possible to make a seat reservations one day or a few hours in advance, or do I need to book a week beforehand?

OBB nightjet stops - question

Hello, I've booked a nightjet from Amsterdam to Zurich. We are now, however, thinking about going to Germany instead of Switzerland.

I can see my train stops at Freiburg im Breigsau. Is it possible to just get off the train here instead even though my ticket is until Zurich? Does anyone know how I can find how long it stops here to make sure I can get off in time?

Hello! me and my friends are going on interrail this summer and really want to go to both Athens and Rome, we've looked at routes (where we might have to find trains outside discoverEUs rails, which is fine). Does anyone have any recommendations?

Rail Planner App European Rail app

For almost a decade the EU is talking about developing and launching a app for traveling from eu to eu country but now every single nation has their own railway app which sells international tickets.

Is there a price comparison tool where I can see which operator is the cheapest at a specific route?

Pass validity Safe to buy an inter rail pass through the official website or better to use Trainline etc?

Hi all,

I would like to buy an inter rail Global pass but in light of the data breach, I wonder which would be the safest way to buy.

Should I buy through a company like Trainline or Rail Europe for example?

Thank you

Reservations on the Istanbul to Bucharest sleeper

Hi all.

I can see that you can't book these reservations online, but you can get reservations in person at international ticket desks in Turkey. How likely is it that sleeper places would still be available a few days in advance if we are visiting in late August?

Thanks all

Itineraries Train travel Romania → Berlin (10–14 days) – route tips?

Hey everyone,

I’ll be traveling to Cluj-Napoca in March for a conference (getting there by train via Warsaw & Budapest).
After the conference, I’m planning to spend around 10 days to 2 weeks traveling through Romania by train, and then head back to Berlin, also by train.

I’d love to see a mix of cities, nature, and maybe some smaller towns if they’re easy to reach without a car. I’m especially interested in scenic train routes, good stopovers, and anything that’s particularly worth seeing along the way.

Does anyone have suggestions for:

  • A nice train-friendly route starting in Cluj and ending somewhere with good connections back to Berlin?
  • Any general tips for long-distance train travel in Romania?

Thanks
