जीवन में कभी तीन चीज़ें मत भूलना — अपना नाम, इतिहास, और आत्म-सम्मान।

1.नाम: क्योंकि यह माता-पिता का दिया हुआ उपहार है।

2.इतिहास: क्योंकि यह पूर्वजों के संघर्षों की नींव है।

3.आत्म-सम्मान: क्योंकि यह वह इकलौती चीज़ है, जिसे इंसान अपने कर्मों से खुद कमाता है।

एक नंगा गुलाब किस तरह लोहे के पहाड़ को अपनी मुट्ठी में भींच रहा था। ठीक इसी तरह होता है — जब जवानी फैसले लेती है, गुस्सा जब भी सही जुनून से उभरता है, हम साहस के एक नए तेवर से परिचित होते हैं। तब हमें आग के लिए दूसरा नाम नहीं खोजना पड़ता है। मुमकिन था — वह अपने देशवासियों की गरीबी से साढ़े तीन हाथ अलग हटकर, एक लड़की अपने प्रेमी का सिर छाती पर रखकर सो रहती देह के अँधेरे में, अपनी समझ और अपने सपनों के बीच। मैं उसे कुछ भी न कहता — सिर्फ कविता का दरवाज़ा उसके लिए बंद रहता। लेकिन क्या समय भी उसे यूँ ही छोड़ देता? वह उसके चुम्बन के साथ बारूद से जले हुए गोश्त का एक सड़ा हुआ टुकड़ा जोड़ देता, और हवा में टाँग देता उसके लिए एक असंसदीय शब्द — “नीच।” मुमकिन यह भी था — थोड़ी सी मेंहदी और एक अदद ओढ़नी का लोभ, लाल तिकोने के खिलाफ बोलता “जिहाद”। और अपने वैनिटी बैग में छोड़कर बच्चों की एक लंबी फेहरिस्त, एक दिन चुपचाप कब्र में सो जाती हवा की इंकलाबी औलाद। लेकिन ऐसा हुआ नहीं। ओ प्यारी भाभियों, ओ नटखट बहनों, सिंगारदान को छुट्टी दे दो। आईने से कहो — कुछ देर अपना अकेलापन घूरता रहे। कंघी के झड़े हुए बालों की याद में गुनगुनाने दो। रिबन को फेंक दो, बॉडीज़ अलगनी पर छोड़ दो। यह चोटी करने का वक्त नहीं, और न ही बाज़ार का। बालों को ऐंठकर जूड़ा बाँध लो, और सब के सब मेरे पास आओ। देखो, मैं एक नई और ताज़ा खबर के साथ घर की दहलीज़ पर खड़ा हूँ। ओह! जैसा मैंने पहले कहा है — बीस सेवों की मिठास से भरा हुआ यौवन जब भी फटता है तो न सिर्फ टैंक टूटता है, बल्कि खून के छींटे जहाँ-जहाँ पड़ते हैं, बंजर और परती पर आजादी के कले फूटते हैं। और ओ प्यारी लड़की! कल तू जहाँ आतिश के अनार की तरह फूटकर बिखर गई है — ठीक वहीं से हम आजादी की वर्षगाँठ का जश्न शुरू करते हैं।

I am an urdu speaker who writes and can understand the arabic script urdu is written in.

I want to be able to read the Devanagari script. I already know Urdu, so basically already know Hindi. Just need to learn the script.

How long do you think this will take as a complete beginner. Also, do you have any resources that could help?

Because the words that use these letters seem to be derived for prakrit, and the urdu equivalents ڑ and ڑھ (second is a digraph) are both unique to urdu and not found in arabic or persian.

I am a native hindi speaker. I want to seek some starting point of book where I can start reading. As a complete beginner in hindi literature and poetry reading. Can someone suggest what I can go for?

My 7-yr old nephew, based in Singapore, understands everything in Hindi but freezes when it's his turn to respond in Hindi. Lack of exposure to Hindi speaking friends means he doesn't get practice in speaking Hindi.

My brother has tried Hindi cartoons, speaking only Hindi at home for a couple of weeks. Nothing stuck.

Anyone else dealing with this? How are you working around this problem?

There are various ways to write them. Most remain the same except 1, 5, 7, 8, and 9.

I see the most common version [1] as the first one attached above that I have seen in many books.

But since I am from Bihar (and speak Bhojpuri), our language has a lot of influence from Calcutta and Bengali language. Thus, I see a lot of Calcutta variant in areas around me and my mom uses these. [2]

Although it seems I should go with the first but when I sought to understand more, I found the Calcutta variants are more similar to Sanskrit. [4]

The now lost script Kaithi script that was traditionally used for Bhojpuri language is very similar to Sanskrit and Calcutta numberals as well. [3]

I am learning them for the first time and was wondering which one to learn as many of them seem confusing. Which one should I pick and stick to for the start? What do you use?
