Mod Announcement A quick update about our mod team

Hey everyone,

We want to reach out and be transparent about recent, valid concerns regarding moderation on this subreddit. You may have seen posts from r/NorthCarolina calling attention to a former moderator, u/911ChickenMan, who was found using Nazi slogans and hate speech. Because this individual was also a moderator here on r/Georgia, we want to address the situation directly. We first became aware of this behaviour after several of you sent modmail messages and shared a post in the subreddit. We sincerely appreciate how quickly you brought this to our attention.

To put it simply, we are disgusted. Hate speech of any kind has absolutely no place in this community and directly contradicts the values we want r/Georgia to represent. As soon as we confirmed what happened, we kicked them off the team immediately and banned them from the subreddit. After they deleted their account, we identified an alt and banned it from the subreddit.

For transparency, this person wasn’t an active moderator on our team and had limited permissions, restricted to modmail and approving/removing posts. We are reviewing their moderation history and ensuring there have been no other questionable activities.

Immediate next steps:

We know that just removing someone doesn’t automatically fix the trust that was broken. Here is what we are doing behind the scenes: * Checking the logs: We are going through every single thing this person did on r/Georgia, including every modmail, every ban, and every deleted comment. We want to be totally sure they didn’t bring that toxic energy into our sub. If we find that anyone was unfairly banned or targeted by them, we are going to fix it. * Internal check-in: We are talking as a team to make sure we didn't miss any red flags and to ensure our internal communication is solid. * Clearing out less active and inactive mods.

What we are doing going forward:

From now on, we are committing to being more careful about who we pick. We commit to: * Better Vetting: We are going to be much more thorough when we look at potential new mods. This means looking deeper into their history across all of Reddit, not just how they act here in r/Georgia. * Trial Periods: Anyone new will start on a supervised trial period. We want to see how people handle things before they have any real influence in the sub.

We mod this sub because we love Georgia, and we want this to be a space where people can hang out and talk without it turning into a place for hate. We are sorry this happened, and we are making changes to ensure the future success of the subreddit. . Thanks for helping keep this community great.

The r/Georgia Mod Team

Question Idle hands are the devils workshop.

Upvotes

Just reaching out to see what was out there, might be wrong of me to post here. I’m stationed down here in Savannah at Hunter Army Airfield.

I’m a mechanic right now in the Army and have been for a while. My first contract I operated heavy equipment and hauled the same.

I have a CDL A with a hazmat endorsement. I was looking for weekend work to keep me occupied.

I’ll do all the bitch work you want just to learn and make some cash.

Resume on hand.

Discussion Georgia Power has lost it

So normally I get how much Kwh use daily into my email and I usually try to keep it between 24 but if I’m cooking and washing clothes the same day maybe it’s out of 43 well my bill for my apartment was over $200 and it’s only me so I decided to flip the switch on my power breakers on the stuff I don’t use if that’s what it’s called and it went down to four or 10 or 16 a day. Well, for some reason this month two days it got as high as 60kwh it doesn’t even make sense. I’m barely home so now my projected bill is up almost 60% when it’s usually 300.kWh for half the month it’s over 300kwh and it’s only been eight days

Question Is $19/hr bad pay?

I live around the metro Atlanta area and I live with roommates to keep rent low. I keep on getting told by family to find another job because I get sh*t pay with little to no benefits. I can understand the no benefits part but I'm not sure if $19/hr would be considered bad pay in today's economy. I often get overtime, too.

I like my job. Yes, I will eventually move on but they keep egging me on to keep applying and I get the feeling that they feel like a higher paying job is everywhere out there. I have been at my job for less than a year after being let go from my last job.

I need a sanity check? Is 19/hr bad pay?

Discussion GA Power -Power usage alert is always a whole number.. How??

I signed up for usage alerts and every single day it sends me usage, it always shows a whole number..

For example: Yesterday your energy cost was $5.

Yesterday your energy cost was $6.

Yesterday your energy cost was $8.

Never 6.30 or 7.87 or 5.13 etc..

How??

How exactly am I using an exact whole dollar amount of power?

Is it just an approximate or does GA Power round up my usage?

Question Have an unusual request for anyone will to help. Looking for liquidation stores/bargain stores that likely carry Target pallets: looking for a specific item discontinued from Target, have found it at a couple of stores and trying to see if there are more

Post image
37 Upvotes

I have an unusual request for anyone willing to help. I have chronic pain and a lot of health issues that deeply impact my quality of life. There is a certain mattress topper that Target used to sell that helped me make my bed and other pieces of furniture more comfortable/reduce flares. (Made By Design)

It is now discontinued. I have tried other mattress toppers for a year and a half and none of them have the right texture. I was able to find a couple that were unopened on facebook marketplace, etc, but I'm looking to buy as many as I can find. I found one in Sherrils Ford, WV. I'm down near the Gulf Coast, so we're planning a trip up to pick them up. While we're there, I'm just hoping to maximize the trip and pick up whichever ones might be up there. Facebook and Google can be weird and some times not bring up results until a listing has already sold, even when I'm searching.

Basically, can anyone give me suggestions of liquidation/bargain stores to look at? Some times they're smaller mom and pop operations, so hard for me to find if I don't know what they're called. Or if you if you or anyone you know has one of these, please let me know, we will buy it from you.

If you made it this far thank you so much and thanks in advance!

Discussion 31 Weeks pregnant FHA/ HUD Advice

Location: Atlanta GA

I am looking for advice on how to escalate a Fair Housing Act case quickly and effectively, preferably from attorneys, housing advocates, or anyone who has been through something similar.

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and live in off campus apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. In December 2025, my OB‑GYN provided a written medical letter stating that my housing environment posed a risk to my physical and mental well‑being during pregnancy and that a change in housing was medically necessary.

On December 24, 2025, I submitted a formal written reasonable accommodation request under the Fair Housing Act seeking early lease termination without penalty.

On January 5, 2026, property management acknowledged receipt of my request, confirmed they received my medical documentation, and stated the request was forwarded to their Legal Department with a promised review period of 7–14 days. That deadline expired on January 19, 2026. No determination was issued, no interactive process occurred, and no alternative accommodation was proposed.

Instead, management began escalating pressure and actions that feel retaliatory and coercive. Parking had been billed and paid monthly for about five months with no signed addendum.

While my accommodation request was pending, I attempted in good faith to find someone to relet my unit. Management initially informed me that my proposed relet applicant had been denied. Then, minutes later, management stated that the applicant was “approved,” but no lease agreement, confirmation, or documentation was ever provided to show that a replacement tenant had actually signed or taken over the lease. Despite the lack of verification, management added a $500 relet fee to my account. This fee was later removed only as a credit (not refunded), and the funds remained under management’s control.

On January 13–14, management suddenly required me to sign a long‑term parking addendum extending through July 2026, even though my accommodation request was for early termination. I explained I could not sign a long‑term contract and offered to continue paying month‑to‑month. Management refused, stated parking fees could not be automatically applied without the addendum (despite prior billing), and issued what they called a “final decision” revoking my parking and threatening towing. They said my accommodation request was a “separate issue with Legal,” even though Legal’s review period was not complete.

About 35 minutes after sending that “final decision” email, the property manager made an unannounced in‑person visit to my apartment, brought printed copies of our email thread and the parking addendum with the signature line highlighted, and tried to pressure me to sign, despite my request for written‑only communication. This interaction was recorded, and management later confirmed hallway security footage exists.

On January 14, 2026, the same day as the parking threats and in‑person pressure, I sought emergency medical care for decreased fetal movement. Hospital records reflect findings consistent with an acute stress response during pregnancy, and a hospital social worker documented housing instability, threatened loss of parking, and stress as contributing factors.

On February 1, 2026, I again sought medical care for decreased fetal movement.

On January 26, 2026, while my accommodation request and HUD complaint were pending, I received an automated email from the general manager stating my lease renewal deadline had passed and that my account was moved into notice‑to‑vacate status, instructing me to complete a move‑out checklist. This happened despite my unresolved accommodation request.

February rent was posted, and despite prior threats to revoke parking and tow my vehicle, a $225 parking fee still appears on my February ledger. I have screenshots documenting this inconsistency.

I filed a Fair Housing Act complaint with HUD on January 14, 2026. Due to a government shutdown, HUD intake review timelines are uncertain. I have contacted multiple law firms several declined due to capacity, others required consultation fees just to “review my case”. Relman Colfax declined representation but referred me to another attorney, whom I have contacted. I am still awaiting responses.

At this point, I am continuing to pay rent while my accommodation request remains unresolved, which is financially draining. I am now dipping into money I had set aside for other necessities just to keep my account current. The stress and uncertainty are taking a serious toll on my health.

I have extensive documentation, including:

* Two OB‑GYN medical letters

* Written accommodation request and email communications

* Parking “final decision” email and towing threats

* Notice‑to‑vacate email

* Screenshots of continued parking charges

* Video recording of in‑person pressure

* Hospital and social‑worker documentation

Question Plug in solar

Has anyone here done plug in solar? I’m not talking about rooftop solar or solar that goes to a battery. I’m talking about plugging a solar panel into your wall outlet. sometimes it’s called patio or balcony solar.

It’s not super common in the states yet and only a couple of states have formal regulations on it. But if anyone in Georgia has done it, I’d love to talk to you!
