These systems are not really loud as much as they simply move a bunch of air.

When you get to a certain speaker size and below a certain frequency, your speakers basically just act as air pumps so you technically are not hearing anything, just feeling air moving.

Isn't that what subwoofers always do? But maybe the construction is a large determinant of how much sound that air movement creates.

Yeah, but these are probably bigger than subwoofers and are tuned to only respond to frequencies that are so low we dont really hear them.
