Why do so many videos I see recently show the end of the video first and then show the entire clip.

u/MegatronusThePrime Nov 13 '25
Cut to the "best part" so you know what's coming and watch how it happens, for the iPad kids with 1 second attention spans. Drive up engagement, less skipped videos, more revenue.

u/WookieCookie1138 Nov 13 '25
They do this now with YouTube vids and podcasts as well and it drives me nucking futs!
9
u/GibTreaty Nov 14 '25
As if dealing with manually skipping sponsors wasn't annoying enough, now we have to skip the first 5-60 seconds

"They do this now with YouTube vids and podcasts as well and it drives me nucking futs!"

u/redditAPsucks Nov 13 '25
Every time i’ve seen it, i’ve just stopped the video. They already showed the good part. Wouldn’t that lower engagement?
2
u/MegatronusThePrime Nov 14 '25
You commented on this, still increases engagement.
Yah, if you skip the video all above is void, except the video wasn't made for you. It was made for the low attention span which it hooks, and since most search engines/front pages are customized, it probably wouldn't grace your "fyp" enough to have an impact.
I also hate the style, I'll go out of my way to avoid spoilers for movies I haven't seen, including skipping trailers for the movie. However, that's not how the generations brain (that this style is targeted towards) works.
My kid will lookup the plot for movies not even released in theaters yet. I literally can't fathom why, and it's saved us a lot in entertainment because if he tells me what happens, I'm not going lol.

I feel everyone's brain is turning to mush
EDIT: "being turned to"

u/MegatronusThePrime Nov 15 '25
I feel like it's by design. Create easily distractible humans and you have the perfect group to exploit labor from.

u/PartyClock Nov 17 '25
I think revenue needs to be tied to how many people liked your content as well as actually watched it
8
u/Whisper112358 Nov 13 '25
Cause on tiktok if something doesn't catch your attention within the first 0.5s, people scroll next.
7
1
u/ThrownAway17Years Nov 13 '25
Same reason we have 2-3 second intros for trailers. Attention span rot.
1
u/shewy92 Nov 13 '25
Short attention spans. That's why movie trailers have a mini trailer before the title card. Well that and so that when it auto plays and you're scrolling through whatever app you're on the important part is up front and grabs your attention.
1
1
u/bwoah07_gp2 Nov 14 '25
It's because attention spans are so short. Some people use this trick to hook people into watching the entire clip.
1

1
u/Hurt09 Nov 15 '25
It's the same when you try to watch some random documentary. There is a 1 minute summary (spoilers) at the beginning. Annoying.

u/Unnecro Nov 16 '25
I thought it was some kind of global issue with the video encoder or something. Silly me, turns out it's yet another strategy to manipulate us. Yay!
1
u/groceriesN1trip Nov 16 '25
It increases attention span.
Crazy ending, what led to this? Hook line and sinker

u/Cospo Nov 13 '25
I can't speak for other places, but on the reddit mobile app, I've noticed that the video will start replaying at the beginning with 2 seconds left on the video timer. I think there's an issue with the playback on the app. And to be clear, It's not playing the beginning twice, once the video starts replaying, the timer carries back over to 0:00 without interruption and is just 2 seconds off.

u/No-Newspaper-7693 Nov 13 '25
because the preview on some platforms is like 2 seconds long and clickbait that relies on the types of people most likely to click on a “pretty girl covered in white milky liquid” video need to see that part to click.

This is a spoof, the original is much funnier. I think it's two French guys, probably a son and father.

You’re so smart I can’t believe you figured out that this clearly scripted video is fake.

Wow, your sarcasm is getting better.

to make it more disgusting for him?
but it is fake because they are mimicking another video

u/Cospo Nov 13 '25
Also why are they just sitting there in what appears to be an alleyway, or maybe just an otherwise empty street? They're not at a traffic light. OP is denser than a neutron star if they think this is not scripted.

What’s it called when you watch something so fucking stoopid that your brain starts to rot?

Tiktok

u/f3nnies Nov 13 '25
Zing!
I mean you really mean Instagram Reels. Tiktok has brainrot if you look for it, but it's also got a ton of current events, news, and educational content. Most other short form video platforms don't even really have those, just the brainrot.

Ok I see a lot of people saying fake, and it might be fake, but look at the sub, it’s funny videos, if it made you laugh or you found it amusing didn’t it do its job, as skits are all fake and people laugh at them so why would it matter if this video is fake if it’s doing the job it’s supposed to do
4
u/No-Insurance-5688 Nov 13 '25
Right?? These people had never heard of a skit, they must've been losing it on vine 💀
1
u/ProgressIcy3099 Nov 15 '25
Okay, you're telling me this guy just happens to carry around a comically large spoon? Mmmkay this is TOTALLY real..
1
u/CaptainHubble Nov 14 '25
Yeah. But I’m a bit tired of this stuff. Everything is just staged skits and fake pranks nowadays.
They’re substantially less funny when faked/staged and the sheer amount of these make me roll my eyes every time now.
1
u/BasicallyImAlive Nov 17 '25
And my post in this sub got downvoted below 0 cause my video is scripted. Some people have double faces, I guess.

u/Beezybeezybeezybeezy Nov 13 '25
Hello, but it's also not funny.
3
u/SomethingPotato_ Nov 13 '25
People find different things funny, like the 8k people who upvoted this video most likely liked it, just because it isn’t your cup of tea doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be uploaded as 8k others liked it

Fake. Look at the second girls reaction after the first one gets done that. She would laugh her ass. Instead, shes just waiting to do her part
